01:05 <PinkieShy> Cepheid I've been running off nothing but caffeine and sugar today >.>

01:05 <PinkieShy> Been up since 5:30am and those 2 things have been the key to keep me awake this long... So headed to bed at 12 or 11:30 tonight

01:06 <Cepheid> Not good, man.

01:06 <Cepheid> You need to try and start eating other foods.

01:06 <Cepheid> Do it slowly, I'd suggest.  For breakfast, switch to cheerios and a piece of fruit.  Or bacon, eggs and toast.

01:07 <PinkieShy> I did have 5 slices of bacon, 1/2 cup of eggs, 2 sausage links, and a biscuit with mountain dew for breakfast.

01:07 <Cepheid> Remove the mountain dew.

01:08 <Cepheid> Replace it with water, or orange juice at best.

01:08 <Cepheid> In fact, you want my advice?

01:08 <Cepheid> Stop drinking mountain dew altogether.

01:08 <Cepheid> It's the worst contender for sugar in soft drinks.

01:08 <Cepheid> You want something flavourful and soda-like to replace it with?  Try Fresca.

01:11 * iandalton just drinks black coffee

01:12 <Cepheid> Fresca is sugar-free, and it's pretty good.  A soda with a flavour that's between a mix of lemon and grapefruit.  More the lemon than the grapefruit.

01:12 <Cepheid> You could also look into getting a Sodastream Fountain, and some liquid sugarfree drink mix.

01:12 <Cepheid> Make your own soda.

01:15 <iandroid> Hello LittleTwillie!

01:16 <LittleTwillie> Hi Android

01:16 <SunsetShimmer> heyo

01:16 <LittleTwillie> Hi sunset

01:16 <iandroid> You can call me ian

01:17 <iandroid> I'm just on my android tablet

01:17 * Cepheid sits atop SunsetShimmer. "Your character in Grimrock 2 is doing fine. Oh, by the way I conscripted you for the mage in Grimrock 2."

01:17 <SunsetShimmer> Shweet, lol

01:18 <Cepheid> Alas, no fireball.

01:18 <Cepheid> I got fire magic maxed, but I can't figure out the spells.  The magic system changed since the first game a bit.

01:18 <Cepheid> I can't select individual runes.  It's basically "Draw a path along these runes to cast a spell."

01:20 *** Joins: The_Nostalgia_Mare (Nossy@Pony-1t1k2f.au40.oqg9.0342.2601.IP)

01:22 <Cepheid> I tried a path that covers the usual fireball runes, but no luck.  The spell just fizzles.

01:28 * Cepheid decides to experiment. Only so many paths that can work with a fire rune, after all.

01:28 <LittleTwillie> Lol

01:35 *** FreezeFrame is now known as SleepFrame

01:38 <LittleTwillie> Lol

01:44 <Cepheid> Nope.  Can't figure out the spell.  Every combination I've tried fizzles.

01:46 <SleepFrame> This seems an interesting magic system.

01:48 <Cepheid> Basically, you have a grid of 3x3 squares, each rune represents something.  The first row is Fire, ???, (Bolt?), the second row is ???, Shield/Area?/Aura?, ???, the third row is Earth, ???, Ice?

01:48 <Cepheid> In Grimrock 1, you selected individual runes to cast spells.  Fireball was Fire, Bolt?, second row third rune.

01:48 <Cepheid> In Grimrock 2, you draw a line from rune to rune, no gaps in between the selection.  The same group for Fireball from the first game just fizzles.

01:50 <Cepheid> And some spells overall appear to have changed.  I can't even cast Light or Darkness.

01:52 * PinkieShy licks Cepheid

01:53 * Saerydoth idly wonders way the flamebreaker armor from the volcano area doesn't work in "normal" hot areas

01:53 <Saerydoth> *why

01:54 <Cepheid> What game?

01:55 <Ali> BotW

01:55 <Cepheid> Oh, right.

01:55 <Saerydoth> it's considered fire resist instead of heat resist

01:56 <Cepheid> Yeah, fire resist over heat resist.  Not bursting into flames and such.

01:56 <Saerydoth> but the whole point is that the temperatures are about 1000 degrees, I'd say that's pretty heat resistant

01:56 <Cepheid> There is that, too, yes.

01:56 *** Joins: Changeling_Nightmares (Surreal@Cutest.Floofy.Changeling.Batpone)

01:57 <Saerydoth> considering in real life you'd spontaneously combust from about 50 feet away

01:57 <Saerydoth> though to be fair Skyward Sword did that too, it had a hot area you needed magic earrings to survive in

01:57 <Cepheid> If I had to guess?

01:57 <Ali> Never got far in Skyward Sword

01:57 <Cepheid> Limitation of the design of the engine.

01:57 * Saerydoth nods

01:57 <Cepheid> The game only allows one "effect" to be active from armour sets.

01:57 <Saerydoth> yeah makes sense

01:58 <Saerydoth> or rather each armor set can only have one effect, if you mix and match you can get some of each

01:58 <Saerydoth> the flamebreaker armor looks like one of those tin can robots from old movies though, rofl

01:59 *** Quits: PinkieShy (Michael@Pony-7elts9.159-117-185-net.sccoast.net) (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

02:00 <Cepheid> These enemies are annoying.  Giant frogs.  They steal equipped items.

02:01 * Saerydoth absolutely hates lizalfos

02:01 <Saerydoth> they can jump in, hit you, and jump out faster than even a fast weapon can move.  They can't be hit with arrows unless you are in slow-mo

02:02 <Saerydoth> sometimes you can get lucky and jump out of the way and get a flurry rush

02:02 <Saerydoth> but those damn fire breathing guys are harder than guardians

02:02 <Cepheid> Yeah, Lizalfos are usually better dealt with by stunning.

02:02 <Saerydoth> guardians I can just rush in and beat to pieces before they can fire a shot now

02:54 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Sethisto: (Confirmed for New YT Series) The FUNdamentals of Magic w/ Princess Celestia: Types of Magic 💫 (Ep.1) [ http://tinyurl.com/yctqwzmc ]

02:55 <Cepheid> Well that was a simple trap.  Boss room.

02:55 <Schism> Hum.  Boss brought up an excellent point tonight.  I don't get angry at myself for having an off-day.

02:55 * Schism should.

03:00 <Cepheid> You walk for what I assume is 8 hours a day at work.

03:00 <Cepheid> You do sales, you're on your feet all the time, and heavens knows what you carry.

03:00 <Cepheid> My experience is that you should be taking a break every few days to give your feet time to rest.

03:01 <Cepheid> I worked at a warehouse job for three months, every single day 8 hours a day, walking, standing and carrying stuff.

03:01 <iandalton> Schism you shouldn't get angry period

03:01 <Cepheid> I not only lost an incredible amount of weight, but I have callouses on my feet from then still, and my feet were sore as heck, even through the weekends.

03:01 <iandalton> Anything anger can accomplish, reason can do better

03:01 <iandalton> Cepheid man that sucks

03:01 <iandalton> 40 hours a week?

03:02 <Schism> Cepheid: Oh, I hit the field for about 6 hours a day.

03:02 <Schism> Two hours of meetings and training and the like first.

03:02 <iandalton> I work at the Home Depot which is basically a warehouse but currently I only work weekends

03:02 <Schism> (Leads.)

03:02 <Schism> iandalton: A reasonable anger.  Drive, impetus, focus.  "Why can't I do this?" "Because I'm not angry enough to push myself to do it."

03:02 *** Joins: Langly (Langly@Pony-scl0gp.ptld.qwest.net)

03:03 <Schism> Cepheid: As for what I carry?  A small bag and a notebook.

03:03 <iandalton> Schism do you think it's possible to be angry enough to do something that you think it better not to do?

03:03 <Cepheid> Still.

03:03 <Cepheid> That's a lot of time on your feet, Schism.

03:03 <Schism> Yes, but that's where the reason part comes in.  I'm not going to go all Cave Johnson.

03:03 <Schism> And eh.  That's actually not too bad.  I do bring a bottle of water, too, and I can usually find a Tim's if I need to sit down for a few.

03:04 <Cepheid> Speaking of feet, that wound on my toe healed up.

03:04 <Schism> Plus, when I get into a CX's house, I get to sit down and chat with them.

03:04 <iandalton> Schism everything you do you do because you think it best. Therefore you don't need anger to act, just figure out what is best.

03:04 <Cepheid> Though now I got a gaping crevasse of a callus on the toe.

03:04 <Schism> iandalton: Incorrect.  Bad habits can accumulate.

03:04 <iandalton> If you think it best to change them, you will

03:05 <Schism> I think it best to get angry at myself, then, as I've not tried that means of change yet.

03:05 <iandalton> If you're not fixing your bad habits, it's because you think it preferable to stay like you are now

03:05 <Schism> Specifically, getting angry at those parts of myself which are keeping me from fixing them.

03:05 <Schism> Cepheid: Heh, you should see the scar on my right hand.

03:05 <iandalton> All you need to do is recognize those parts of yourself. As soon as you do you can cast them away dispassionately.

03:06 <Schism> Meh.  Flinging em away feels better.

03:06 <iandalton> Right, but you're not doing it better by doing it in anger. Anger will cloud your judgement, not clarify it.

03:06 <Schism> That depends.  A hot anger, certainly.  A cold anger...

03:08 <Schism> A cold anger is me saying, 'Why the BUCK did I not do this before?' and crystallizing into 'I'm doing this NOW'.

03:08 <Cepheid> Okay, time to sort my inventory.  There's a hub teleportation area, so I'll use it to go back to the beach.  Two steps away from there is a box I can shove stuff into.  As much as I want.

03:10 *** Changeling_Nightmares is now known as Filly_Nightmares

03:17 <Cepheid> Spitfire is chasing a sky raisin.

03:19 * Schism passes Cepheid some orange-cranberry-maple cream of wheat.

03:19 <Filly_Nightmares> o3o

03:19 <Filly_Nightmares> Fly!

03:19 * Filly_Nightmares chases Schism's tail

03:20 * Schism waves tail around a bit.

03:20 * Filly_Nightmares bats at and tugs Schism's tail!

03:20 * Filly_Nightmares drags him to Ali

03:21 * Schism blinks, and provides Ali with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich on egg toast, with honey mustard dipping sauce.

03:21 * Filly_Nightmares purr

03:24 <Cepheid> I found a map, but..  I can't figure out where it's pointing me to.  No locations on the overall map match what I see on this map.

03:25 <Cepheid> Which implies it's in an area I haven't mapped, I guess.

03:27 <Cepheid> Sheesh, unexpected trap grabbing that new gun for Schism.

03:27 <Cepheid> Picked it up, it teleported me into a room where I was surrounded by undead.

03:28 <Schism> Hmmm.  Was the trap itself a surprise, or just what it did?

03:28 <Cepheid> The trap itself.

03:28 <Cepheid> The undead weren't a problem once I cleared one of them out.

03:28 <Schism> I'm kinda surprised.  You're not used to them yet, I guess?

03:28 <Cepheid> This is the first time I've seen a trap teleport me.

03:28 <Cepheid> Especially from picking up a weapon.

03:28 <Schism> I mean, you see a shiny weapon sitting there, you've gotta expect it to be trapped.  Like that shotgun in the room in Bioshock.

03:29 <Cepheid> In any case, Schism has an Arquebus, now.

03:29 <Schism> Hmm, inaccurate, but that's fine.

03:31 <Cepheid> So far you've hit everything with it when I've used it.

03:37 <Cepheid> Tactical retreat!  Cepheid has died!

03:37 * Filly_Nightmares licks Schism's floof

03:38 * Schism provides Filly_Nightmares with some hot tea for warms.

03:39 * Filly_Nightmares jumps into the teacup and purrs at Schism

03:40 <PinkieShy> I've been up almost 20 hours.

03:40 * Filly_Nightmares uses her floofy hooves and closes PinkieShy's eyelids!

03:40 <PinkieShy> Struggling to stay awake is real.

03:46 <Cepheid> Another skull for the skullbag.

03:47 <Cepheid> Huzzah, fire shield obtained!

03:47 <iandalton> Blood for the blood god

03:47 <iandalton> Skulls for the skull bag

03:51 <Cepheid> Okay, we have a choice.  Ruins of Desarune, which are apparently crafted for explorers such as myself, or a cemetery.

03:51 <Cepheid> There's a pyramid, but it's locked by an unknown key.

03:51 <Snapai> looty for the tutti frootie!

03:51 * Schism looks at the image for Shock, tries to puzzle things out.

03:51 <Cepheid> Likely a hidden button.

03:52 <Snapai> Schism, I destroyed my USB hub today! And had to pay $40 for a new one! :o

03:52 <Schism> Cepheid: What are the returns you get from trying each of those nine in turn?

03:52 <Schism> Snapai: Owwww.  I have spares.

03:52 * Filly_Nightmares wiggles and snuzzlies Snapai

03:52 <Filly_Nightmares> I wanna get a USB hub

03:53 <Snapai> Got one of those fancy usb3 ones from wallymart with an external AC power supply.

03:53 <Cepheid> Schism:  You mean each individual rune?  Fire gets me fireburst, the rest all fizzle due to Sunset's focus on Fire

03:53 <Schism> Filly_Nightmares, https://www.staples.ca/en/D-Link-DUB-H7BL-7-Port-USB-Hub/product_171811_1-CA_1_20001 seems useful!

03:53 <Snapai> The old one was like, years old, and had done okay, but then I tripped over my keyboard cable and ripped a USB socket up off the board and nothing worked after that :x

03:53 <Schism> Cepheid: Ahhh.

03:53 <Filly_Nightmares> o4o

03:53 <Filly_Nightmares> Snapai, how about those Anker hubs?

03:53 <Filly_Nightmares> o4o

03:55 <Schism> Cepheid: Looking at the runes, middle one looks like a shield, but... hmm.

03:55 <Cepheid> It is.

03:56 <Snapai> ?

03:56 <Snapai> what?

03:56 <Cepheid> It represents "group", "shield" or "area".

03:56 <Cepheid> If I do the top rune and the middle rune, I get the Light spell, so the top rune represents Light.

03:56 <Cepheid> The bottom rune combined with middle gets Darkness.

03:57 <Schism> Hmm.  Try an L shape from the top left to the middle.

03:58 <Cepheid> The elemental shields add a fourth rune to the mix, and have a cycle.

03:58 <Schism> Wasn't thinking shield.

03:58 <Cepheid> If you mean going from upper-left to upper-right, then down one, I tried that as well.

03:59 <Cepheid> It doesn't result in fireball for some reason.  Perhaps concentration is too low.

03:59 <Schism> Upper-left, center-left, center.

03:59 <Cepheid> Fizzles.

03:59 <Schism> Hm, what's the concentration?

04:00 <Cepheid> Level 3 currently.  I maxed out fire magic first.

05:41 <Cepheid> Essentially, I have this weird... "issue," which I am unsure if it's mental, or some sort of empathy thing.  But when I look at someone or something, I can feel "potential" emotion from them regarding something in the future.  And it can be somewhat soul-crushing.

05:41 <Cepheid> It's also random when it happens.

Characters act in realistic ways, pursuing their goals in a rational fashion. They eat, defecate, sleep, and so on, in a precise timeline. Wolfe makes it a point of pride to have few accidental errors. When you notice an error or wonder why a character did something so round-about, Wolfe is gesturing toward the real story."

10:49 <RazorSharpFang> Ew Imperial units.

10:49 <Cepheid> Unfortunately, that is an artefact of my mother.

10:49 <RazorSharpFang> You're Canadian, not American. *grumps*

10:49 <Cepheid> She grew up using imperial units because she lived on a farm.

10:49 <Cepheid> And their farm sold the US, etc.

10:50 <Cepheid> As a result, when it comes to temperature and weight, we use imperial units within the house.  Metric outside.

10:50 <RazorSharpFang> Sold the US eh? Must have been worth a lot.

10:50 <Cepheid> Dunno.

10:50 <Cepheid> She kept saying it was a chicken farm, so hard to say.

10:50 <RazorSharpFang> It was a joke, 'cos it sounded like the united-states was what you sold.

10:53 <Cepheid> Ah. :P

11:04 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Calpain: Morning Discussion #1137 [ http://tinyurl.com/yb48w3ys ]

11:09 <Lumindia> so Ceph, you ever have an anxiety attack?

11:10 <Cepheid> A few.

11:10 <Cepheid> And panic attacks.  And depressive episodes.

11:11 <Lumindia> I had one yesterday after hearing that my blood pressure was higher than it usually was

11:11 <Lumindia> it was horrible. ;-;

11:13 <Lumindia> I felt like i wanted to collapse on the floor and cry, I felt really hot and sweaty, had trouble breathing

11:13 <Cepheid> Sounds about right.

11:13 <Lumindia> Only lasted about five minutes, but they were an awful five minutes

11:13 <Lumindia> had the doctor retake my blood pressure just to be sure... came out to 122/70

11:14 <Lumindia> after I had calmed myself down, of course

11:14 <Cepheid> Of course.

11:14 <Cepheid> Anyhow, that is about reasonable.

11:14 <Cepheid> It's certainly better than my 141/89

11:15 <Lumindia> the initial reading was 150/90

11:15 <Lumindia> that's what had set off that anxiety attack in the first place

11:15 <Cepheid> Yeah, that's a bit high.  Could have been a false reading, or you had done something prior to it that raised your blood pressure.

11:16 <Lumindia> my pulse at the time of reading was high, so I was probably anxious about something else during the reading

11:16 <Cepheid> Or moving.

11:16 <Lumindia> if both pulse and blood pressure are high, then you're just stressed out over something

11:16 <Lumindia> which the nurse neglected to tell me

11:17 <Cepheid> Just took another reading.  147/86.

11:17 <Lumindia> do you naturally have high blood pressure?

11:17 <Cepheid> No

11:17 <Lumindia> ahh

11:17 <Cepheid> It's likely due to diabetes among other issues.

11:17 <Lumindia> well that's what I mean

11:17 <Cepheid> Ah.

11:17 <Cepheid> In that case, yes.

11:17 <Lumindia> are the readings consistently high

11:18 <Cepheid> I essentially need to better control my blood-glucose, and start exercising.

11:18 <Cepheid> Earlier I rowed for 30 minutes straight, so..

11:18 <Lumindia> for me, my readings are always around the average of 120/80

11:18 <Lumindia> so hearing 150/90 gave me great cause for concern

11:18 <Cepheid> I'm gonna try doing that at least every second day, so as to not ruin my body with aches and pains.

11:18 <Lumindia> and that day I learned the diffrerence between panic attacks and anxiety attacks

11:18 <Cepheid> I'm considering joining the gym at the school to ensure that I can get exercise, even on the days I'm in class until late.

11:19 <Lumindia> Panic attacks are usually sudden and a reaction to something that JUST happened

11:19 <Lumindia> while anxiety attacks happen more gradually

11:19 <Cepheid> I get both.

11:20 <Cepheid> Mostly panic attacks, and usually triggered by something that is stressing me out at a given moment in time.

11:20 <Lumindia> so now that I've been there, I can feel your pain.

11:20 * Lumindia hug

11:22 <Cepheid> Once you reach the breaking point, usually your brain can't go back until your body uses up what reserves of energy it has on stressing out, panicking and being all sick.

11:24 <Lumindia> hitting breaking point would usually result in fainting after a period of time?

11:26 *** Joins: Pi (Mibbit@Pony-c0c.2qp.151.49.IP)

11:26 <Cepheid> In extreme cases, yeah.

11:27 <Cepheid> It hasn't happened to me, but given what I've gone through, I'm surprised it hasn't.  It's such a drain physically and mentally that I can see passing out being a real concern.

11:27 <Lumindia> fromw hat I've read, panic attacks are often mistaken for heart attacks

11:27 <Lumindia> and people end up in the hospital because of that

11:29 <Cepheid> Mmhmm, it does feel weird in the chest when it hits.

11:30 <Cepheid> Me, it usually feels like something is crushing my heart, or at least sitting on my chest.

11:32 <Lumindia> my roommate likened it to being punched really hard in the chest and being unable to breathe

11:32 <Lumindia> probably comparing it to how suddenly it can happen

11:33 <Lumindia> like, you could just be doing normal stuff, then BAM, overwhelming fear strikes and everything is horrible

11:34 <Cepheid> Yup.

11:34 <Cepheid> That reminds me of last night, actually.

11:37 <Cepheid> It's time for me to get some sleep.  I'ma wander off to bed now
