07:45 <ConfusionRift> Heh, implemented a "and then, i went back to sleep and missed all my adventures" ending. :P

07:49 <Cepheid> Heh.  Meanwhile I can't implement anything.  There is a warm ball of fur on my lap.

07:49 <ConfusionRift> I wonder what that is. (coughs)

07:51 <Cepheid> Well whatever it was it heard something, got up, and wandered off.  Sounds like it was for food.

07:59 <Cepheid> I have this weirdly strong compulsion to wash my bedroom walls.  I do not know why.

08:05 <Cepheid> ...

08:06 <Cepheid> So, this is a wierd anomaly that keeps occuring with me.

08:06 <Cepheid> I learn of an algorithm, it's heavily mathematics-oriented, but I can't quite figure out how it works initially.

08:06 <Cepheid> Then, anywhere from a few days, to a few years later, I go back to sald algorithm because I know I need it, I know what it's used for.

08:07 <Cepheid> I look at one image of it, and then BAM, I understand how the algorithm works and why.

08:07 *** Joins: Double (double@Pony-40o5q9.adsl-surfen.hetnet.nl)

08:08 <Cepheid> In this case, Separating Axis Theorem.

08:09 <ConfusionRift> It's not entirely weird. Some have that kind of memory. They forget something almost completely, and then remember how it goes when they see it again.

08:09 <ConfusionRift> Unfortunately for me, I just plain don't remember any of it. :P

08:09 <ConfusionRift> I remember the basics, but major stuff is just... gone.

08:12 <Cepheid> That's commonplace with programming as well.

08:13 <Cepheid> When you work with one language for a long time, you start forgetting details about other languages.

08:13 <ConfusionRift> "You can divide a number by (8^x), or just divide said number to a stupidly large value." | Yes, I get it, my math is garbage. Stop rubbing it in.

08:13 <Cepheid> Instead, what sticks with you is the concepts. Abusing locality of reference, memory packing, etc, etc, etc.

08:14 <ConfusionRift> That is dumb to ask someone for an alphanumeric string, when you could just make it a numeric by force.

08:14 <ConfusionRift> Especially if what you need is just numbers.

08:15 <ConfusionRift> Not sure why, that was a very common error during class.

08:16 *** Quits: Personifire (Tilde@Pony-94mhdi.dgbc.9fgu.6000.2605.IP) (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

08:17 <Cepheid> Yep.

08:17 * Finwe returns from a run.

08:17 <ConfusionRift> "It's tiring to make an exception error for each time someone types a letter on a textbox, when all we need is numbers. So dumb." | Ooooor, you could mask the textbox to use numeric values only. | "...are you serious?" | Yep. | (bumps against the desk)

08:18 <Finwe> *pant* *pant*

08:18 <ConfusionRift> How was the run? :P

08:18 <Finwe> It was... runny.

08:18 <Finwe> Somewhat exercise-like.

08:18 <Finwe> And rather sweaty. o3o

08:19 <Cepheid> ConfusionRift:  When people learn GUI APIs, they aren't familiar with what they can and can't do.  Of course, researching could have solved that problem, but yeah.

08:19 <Cepheid> How many people actually buy the textbooks for their classes these days?  Much less read them?

08:19 <ConfusionRift> I kinda had to. As for masking, I just found that by accident.

08:20 <ConfusionRift> It was on VB.net, which I used to mess around a lot with.

08:20 <Cepheid> Heh.

08:20 <Cepheid> Meanwhile, I would do one of two things, myself.

08:20 <Cepheid> Depends on the API.

08:21 <Cepheid> 1)  Attach a filter object to the GUI element.  Some APIs allow creating a filter class that all input, or the end-result is passed through, to verify acceptability.

08:22 <Cepheid> 2)  Event handler that listens for keypresses in the relevant widget.  Then either run the key code through a bunch of if/else statements, or a regular expression.

08:22 <Cepheid> And simply respond accordingly(Discard the event if failed, pass it along otherwise.)

08:22 <ConfusionRift> Masked textboxes were picky little things, which required another way for converting strings to values. It was when I was messing around with those and regular textboxes when I found that I could just mask the textboxes directly.

08:22 <ConfusionRift> Made coding easier too.

08:23 <Cepheid> Delegates are nice for that kind of stuff, yeah.

08:25 <Cepheid> https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7Qj8myX4AAlgGb.png:large

08:25 <ConfusionRift> Ah, the nested if/else. We were forced to make a program in Alice that used every possible outcome. That was... bleck.

08:26 <ConfusionRift> Hehehe.

08:27 <ConfusionRift> "Batgirl would never use Converse. Here, use these hiking boots." :P

08:27 <Cepheid> "Take that off right now!"  "Awe, bu-"  "No buts, pink ruins the threatening appearance of the outfit.  You want to look menacing, terrifying!  Here, try this on, and wear a couple of these!"  *Hands a pair of dark pants, and some knuckle dusters.*

08:27 *** Joins: RyuImperator (RyuImperato@Pony-s5snl1.dip0.t-ipconnect.de)

08:29 <Cepheid> "Now remember, when you punch"  "Yes, yes, go for the face."  "No, you want to do two quick hits to the stomach to stun them, then hit them hard with a strong right or strong left hook, depending on your handedness."

08:29 <Cepheid> "Remember, when your enemy is dow-"  "No kicking or punching a downed enemy, otherwise it's dirty fighting."  "What?  No!  Kick 'em a few times in the gut or crotch for good measure."

08:30 <Cepheid> Never did understand that whole "it's dirty fighting" thing.

08:30 <Cepheid> If you're in a fight for your life, kick 'em while they're down, for crying out loud.

08:30 <Cepheid> You don't want 'em getting back up.  Good swift, hard kick to the stomach or crotch will keep 'em down for a long while.

08:31 <Cepheid> Or hell, just curb-stomp them.

08:32 <ConfusionRift> The "it's dirty fighting" thing is referring to taking advantage of someone who is down or disabled at the time. In a case of self-defense, you can throw that completely out the window.

08:32 <Cepheid> Problem is, people make it sound like it's not fair game even in self-defense.

08:33 <ConfusionRift> Screw them. They are not the ones in danger.

08:33 <Cepheid> Yep.

08:34 <ConfusionRift> In any self-defense situation, you're expected to fight for your life. That means using all you can to take down, slow down, or disable the offender.

08:35 <Cepheid> To a limit though, from what I understand.  Somehow, the US allows for a home invader to sue your butt if they get injured in your house.

08:35 <Cepheid> Even if they were breaking and entering.

08:35 <ConfusionRift> Depends.

08:36 <Cepheid> There have been recorded instances of emergency responders advising people calling them about home invaders to not injure said invader, as they could then sue for damages.

08:37 <ConfusionRift> In here, I'm still allowed to open fire if someone unrecognized and uninvited breaks in. In Cali... I would probably get arrested to even punching the guy for breaking our window, and he'll have the right to sue.

08:38 <Cepheid> Yeah, it's on a by-state basis.

08:38 <ConfusionRift> It also depends on who's judging. Unbiases my butt.

08:38 <Cepheid> Here in Canada, I think it's straight up "You broke in uninvited, you got what was coming to you."

08:39 <Cepheid> Though I think some judges are of the "What happened to you was punishment enough." kind.

08:39 <Cepheid> Especially if they were seriously injured.  Like, broken bones.

08:39 *** Quits: cabbage (cabbage@Pony-0gbng9.dynamic.sonic.net) (Connection closed)

08:43 <ConfusionRift> Heh, some of the sound effects in RPG Maker for opening something sound like you're just breaking through. :P

08:45 <Cepheid> Huh.  An ammendment to the self-defense act will apparently allow people to use violence as a way to remove a person from their property, if said person refuses to leave property upon request.

08:45 <ConfusionRift> ^ Yep.

08:46 <Cepheid> This is for Canada.

08:46 <Cepheid> I'd say that there's no reason to use it, but I have encountered at least one case in my life where it MAY have been required.

08:47 <Cepheid> My mother filed a complaint with another renter in the neighbourhood, who had a cat that was going around killing wildlife for the hell of it.

08:47 <Cepheid> Said renter came by our place to harass us.

08:47 <Cepheid> They refused to leave upon repeated requests to leave.

08:48 <ConfusionRift> Hmmm.

08:48 <Cepheid> It wasn't until I stood at the door and glared down at them, repeating the request for them to leave that they backed off and went home.

08:48 <Cepheid> I had my phone at the ready to call the cops, too.

08:49 <Cepheid> They were upset that they were getting reprimanded for having their cat wander around outdoors.  They felt it was their right to let the cat wander outdoors.  That said..

08:49 <Cepheid> The neighbourhood is owned by a company, and similarly to say, an apartment building, or a homeowners association, they set the rules.

08:50 <Cepheid> Cats are not supposed to be wandering around the neighbourhood freely.  It's even more of an issue if they're spotted and caught killing wildlife, or other cats.

08:50 * ConfusionRift nods.

08:50 <Cepheid> In fact, I think it's an Ottawa bylaw that cats aren't supposed to be roaming.

08:51 <Cepheid> Ah, no, they're allowed.

08:51 <Cepheid> Homeowners are, however, responsible for all damage their cat does.

08:53 <Cepheid> In any case, I'm not a fan of outdoor cats.  What's the point?  You have the cat in the first place for companionship.

08:53 <Cepheid> Putting it outside and either not letting it back in, or hoping it doesn't come back soon is kind of... contradictory.

08:53 <Finwe> Public Order Act, Chapter 4, Section 14: Animals

08:53 <Finwe> o3o

08:53 <Finwe> https://www.finlex.fi/en/laki/kaannokset/2003/en20030612_20100774.pdf

08:54 <Cepheid> Thank you for your contribution, Finwe.  *Reads*

08:54 <Cepheid> Finwe, is English recognized as an official language in Finland?  Or is it simply used as an accomodation because of the prevalence of the language?

08:54 <Finwe> That's passed by our parliament and hence valid in whole Finland.

08:55 <Cepheid> Oh, wait, the document says at the top that it's an unofficial translation.

08:55 <Cepheid> And that it's only legally binding in Finnish and Swedish.

08:55 <Finwe> Cepheid: It's just a translation, obviously because there are a lot of immigrants who cannot understand either Finnish or Swedish.

08:55 <Finwe> Yes, like it says in the beginning.

08:55 <Cepheid> Immigrants and visitors.

08:56 <Cepheid> Hum, your dog laws are a tad more strict.

08:57 <Finwe> Visitors usually don't have animals with them.

08:58 <Cepheid> No, but it does happen.

08:58 <Finwe> You'd have to leave the animals to the border guard's veterinarian for like a month or so.

08:58 <Cepheid> Right, right.

08:59 <Finwe> At least if you come from outside the EU.

08:59 <Cepheid> That's especially the case when moving from country to country, or from continent to continent.

08:59 *** Quits: Double (double@Pony-40o5q9.adsl-surfen.hetnet.nl) (Connection closed)

08:59 <Cepheid> Because of concerns about rabies.

08:59 <Cepheid> Primarily rabies, anyways.

08:59 <Cepheid> That said, that's about the only reason I'd have a problem with moving to another country for a long-term visit, right now.

08:59 <Finwe> Might even apply for travellers from EU. Free movement is guaranteed for people and goods only.

09:00 <Cepheid> I don't think Spitfire would be able to handle being "by himself" without me for a month.

09:00 <Cepheid> He had enough trouble with just 7 hours.

09:00 <Finwe> Aww.

09:00 <Finwe> He's quite attached to you.

09:01 <Cepheid> We had to leave him with the vet for a teeth cleaning, which took about 6-7 hours.

09:01 <Cepheid> I unfortunately had school, so I could not go with him to the vet, nor be there when he was picked up.  But the full story according to the vet and my mother was that he spent the first hour meowing relentlessly, then moping, and then got lethargic after that.

09:01 <Cepheid> He immediately perked up when he heard my mother's voice, though.

09:02 <Cepheid> And by lethargic, they mean he apparently just stopped moving or reacting to stuff, like noises, or being handled by the vet.  No purring, no meowing, etc.

09:03 <Cepheid> So basically, if I emmigrated to another country, and he had to be kept in quarantine for a few weeks or a month, I'd have to stay close-by the place where he is, until the process is done.

09:04 <Cepheid> I'd have to visit him every day and pay attention to him, otherwise he'd probably just stop living.

09:06 <Cepheid> And yes, animals will go that far.

09:06 <Cepheid> Though it's less common among cats, dogs and cats are known for becoming so attached to their owners that they stop living if their owner up and disappears forever, and will inevitably starve themselves to death.

09:09 <Cepheid> Oh, Rifty.

09:09 <Cepheid> I got a job.  o3o

09:09 <Cepheid> My old employer hired me back.

09:09 <ConfusionRift> Huzzah!

09:09 <Finwe> Oddly, x doesn't get assimilated but omitted.

09:09 <Cepheid> Finwe:  Hmm?

09:10 <Finwe> So, in + migrare -> immigrare, but ex + migrare -> emigrare.

09:11 <Cepheid> Ah.

09:11 <Cepheid> Yeah, I think we already know that I'm not the best at English.

09:12 <Finwe> In English it's not so obvious. The "e" in emigrare is long, but it's short in the English "emigrate".

09:12 <Cepheid> The problem, I find, is that with English, the rules are inconsistent with usage.

09:13 <Cepheid> And there's a lot of them.

09:13 <Cepheid> So a rule applied to one particular scenario, that looks like it should be applied to other similar scenarios, may not actually apply.

09:13 <Cepheid> I'm told this is one of the reasons English is considered one of the harder languages to learn.

09:14 <Cepheid> And then of course, you consider the number of dialects across the world.

09:14 <Cepheid> Some even within the same country.

09:14 <Cepheid> There's distinctions between English in the Northern states, and the Southern states.  And for Canada, there's different dialects for West, Central and Eastern Canada.

09:14 <Cepheid> Especially Eastern, what with Newfinese(Newfie) English.

09:17 * Cepheid looks up triangle-triangle intersection.

09:18 <Cepheid> Ah, right, I need line-line first.

09:20 <Cepheid> ...

09:20 <Cepheid> Ow.

09:20 <Cepheid> For some reason, while looking at another algorithm, I determined, I think, a way to do a line-line (line segments) intersection test using projection.

09:23 <Finwe> Two lines intersect if they are not parallel.

09:23 <Finwe> At least in Euclidean geometry.

09:24 <Cepheid> Visually, it's easy to see, yes

09:24 <Finwe> In projective geometry, two lines always have at least one point in common.

09:24 <Cepheid> But this is line-segments.

09:25 <Cepheid> It's possible for two line-segments that are not parallel to not intersect as well.

09:25 *** Quits: jimm (horse@Pony-fr7.dqo.55.45.IP) (Connection closed)

09:25 <Finwe> True.

09:26 <Cepheid> The problem I see with algorithms is that most intersection stuff for line segments talk of finding the intersection point, rather than just figuring out if they intersect.

09:26 *** Joins: jimm (horse@Pony-fr7.dqo.55.45.IP)

09:26 <Cepheid> That said..

09:27 <Cepheid> It is, actually possible to determine if two line segments intersect by treating them as mathematical lines that go on infinitely in both directions.

09:28 <Cepheid> You just find the point at when these two lines cross, and then do a bit of geometry.

09:28 *** Quits: jimm (horse@Pony-fr7.dqo.55.45.IP) (Connection closed)

09:28 <Cepheid> If there is no intersection, because the lines are parallel, as you stated, then it's even more moot.

09:29 <Finwe> But you'd use projective geometry in computer graphics, would you not?

09:29 <Finwe> Meaning that even parallel lines intersect.

09:29 *** Joins: jimm (horse@Pony-fr7.dqo.55.45.IP)

09:29 <Cepheid> If the two are on top of one another, yeah.

09:30 <Finwe> No, they intersect in every case.

09:30 <Finwe> In projective geometry, two lines always have at least one point in common.

09:30 <Cepheid> Define projective geometry in this case, please.

09:30 <Cepheid> Are you talking about projection in a 3D view?

09:31 <Cepheid> As in, everything converges to a point?

09:31 <Cepheid> Because I'm just dealing with 2D.

09:31 <Finwe> It's otherwise like Euclidean geometry, but you replace the parallel axiom of Euclidean geometry with that of projective geometry, viz. parallel lines intersect at exactly one point.

09:32 <Cepheid> Give me a minute.

09:32 <Finwe> The Euclidean parallel axiom states that parallel lines do not intersect.

09:32 * Finwe hoofs a minute to Cepheid,

09:32 <Cepheid> You're talking of non-2D geometry.

09:33 <Finwe> I'm talking of 2-dimensional projective geometry.

09:33 *** Quits: RyuImperator (RyuImperato@Pony-s5snl1.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) (Quit: Leaving.)

09:34 <Cepheid> I've not heard of projective geometry before, so I think the confusion arises from that I have no idea what you're speaking of, and cursory glances at online material.

09:34 <Finwe> Hmm. Projective geometry is an integral part of computer graphics.

09:34 <Cepheid> Not enough that it's not covered in CS.

09:34 <Finwe> I've taught it myself to CS students.

09:35 <Cepheid> I mean, I understand it if you're talking of translating 3D geometry to a 2D plane.

09:35 <Cepheid> Especially when projection matrices are involved.

09:35 <Cepheid> Because yes, there is some weird mathematics involved in translating a 3D scene to a 2D plane.

09:35 <Cepheid> You can do it orthographically or using a projection.

09:36 <Finwe> That's what you usually do with projective geometry, but you can define it purely axiomatically.

09:37 <Cepheid> Yeah, in this case I'm working purely in 2D space, not 3D.  And I don't see it in axioms like you do.

09:37 <Cepheid> This is where the difference in knowledge between me and other CS students is apparently evident.

09:37 <Finwe> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projective_geometry

09:37 <Cepheid> I do not understand concepts that the other students understand, in the same terms and wording as they do.

09:37 <Cepheid> It's not that I don't understand X, Y or Z, it's that I understand X, Y and Z in different terms.

09:38 <Cepheid> Probably because I self-taught myself using resources that aren't from textbooks.

09:39 <Cepheid> Like, I understand what you're speaking of, just not in the same terms.

09:39 <Finwe> I would be a dull world if we were all similar.

09:40 <Cepheid> All I know is that vertices, otherwise known as points, are transformed by a matrix, often 3x3 or 4x4, and then a perspective division is performed, using a value W, calculated via the near and far plane values.

09:40 <Cepheid> Which is what determines how the scene converges to a point.

09:41 <Cepheid> So yes, in your explanation above, all lines share a single, common point.

09:42 <Cepheid> In 3D, anyways.

09:42 <Cepheid> In a 2D space, not so much.

09:42 <Cepheid> In a 2D space, it's more like drawing on graph paper.

09:42 <Finwe> In 3-dimensional space, two lines need not share a common point.

09:42 <Cepheid> They don't, no.

09:43 <Finwe> Even if it were a projective space.

09:43 <Finwe> But in projective 2-space (plane), two lines always have a single common point, unless they are the very same line.

09:43 <Cepheid> I've never dealt with a projective 2-space.

09:43 <Cepheid> I don't think it's even used in graphics.

09:44 <Cepheid> When I spoke of projection earlier, I meant projection of a vector on another.

09:44 <Cepheid> Projection of vector U onto vector V.

09:45 <Finwe> It's pretty much how you experience your surroundings.

09:46 <Finwe> Your eye projects an image on your retina.

09:46 <Cepheid> That's a projective 2-space?

09:47 <Finwe> In this geometry, you notice how parallel lines, like the two rails of a railway, converge at a point infinitely far away from you.

09:47 <Cepheid> I know what you're speaking of.

09:47 <Finwe> That's the parallel axiom.

09:47 <Cepheid> Again, it's a case of terminology issue.  I just call that "transforming a 3D scene to a 2D plane" or "3D scene flattening" more or less.

09:48 <Cepheid> There's a bit more to it than just flattening the scene.

09:48 <Cepheid> But I know what you're referring to.

09:48 <Finwe> I also think that this is how the projective space got its name.

09:49 <Cepheid> In computer graphics, I don't think we call them projective spaces.  At least, not over here.

09:49 <Finwe> The concept has probably first arisen along with questions related to 2-dimensional pictures of 3d-objects.

09:50 <Cepheid> Yeah.

09:50 <Cepheid> And we do that every day with 3D graphics.

09:50 <Cepheid> Usually through something we call a projection matrix.

09:50 <Cepheid> Or "projection transformation"

09:51 <Cepheid> You create a frustum using a minimum of four values, width, height, z-near and z-far.

09:51 <Finwe> Yup. I know my Hilbert space theory.

09:52 <Finwe> Cepheid: Those are the homogenous coordinates of projective geometry, eenope?

09:52 <Cepheid> That so?  Huh.

09:52 <Finwe> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homogeneous_coordinates

09:52 <Cepheid> I always understood homogenous coordinates to be 4-vectors in 3D space, that is, X, Y, Z and W.

09:53 <Cepheid> Those values above aren't actually coordinates.

09:53 <Finwe> You always need one extra coordinate.

09:53 <Cepheid> They're just used to create a 4x4 matrix which is used for the perspective division stuff.

09:53 <Finwe> In projective plane, you would need three coordinates.

09:54 <Cepheid> If you were to draw out what those four values were creating behind the scenes, it'd be a frustum.

09:54 <Finwe> The origin, for example, would be (0,0,1), or any scalar multiple thereof.

09:54 <Cepheid> Yeah.

09:55 <Finwe> But you usually normalise so that the homogenous part is 1.

09:55 <Cepheid> Yep.

09:55 <Finwe> And the points infinitely far from origin would be (x,y,0).

09:56 <Finwe> The advantage of using projective geometry instead of Euclidean in computer graphics is that you can represent points with infinite Cartesian coordinates with finite homogenous coordinates.

09:57 <Finwe> Computers aren't very good with inifinitely large numbers.

09:57 <Cepheid> They aren't, no.

09:57 <Cepheid> That's why the z-near and z-far values are specified.

09:57 <Cepheid> They're clipping ranges.

09:57 <Cepheid> Anything that falls otuside of z-near and z-far is clipped.

10:02 <Cepheid> In any case, I think some confusion here stems from the fact that we're being overly analytical.  When I speak of infinite lines in 2D, from line segments, I'm talking as if we have a line segment going from say, (5, 5) to (10, 10).  In this case, treating it as an infinite line in my terminology just means treating it as if the line extends beyond these two points for the same of some mathematics.

10:02 <Cepheid> Namely, finding out where two line segments might intersect, if they continued on infinitely in each direction.

10:03 <Cepheid> If at all.

10:04 <Cepheid> Given two line segments, A1->A2, B1->B2, suppose they intersect somewhere beyind A2 and B2.  I just calculate where that intersection I is, then calculate the magnitudes of A1->I and B1-I, and if they both fall within the magnitude of A1->A2 and B1->B2 respectively, then there is an intersection.  Of course, this is just one case, there's other cases to consider.

10:06 <Cepheid> Vector projection can also be used to calculate intersection results as well.

10:08 <Cepheid> It'd be easier for me to explain had I not used the above confusing terminology of A1, A2, etc, etc.

10:10 <Cepheid> So, for sake of ease, let's name all the points properly.  P1, P2, P3, P4.  A is a line segment going from P1 to P2, B is a line segment going from P3 to P4.  A and B, for purposes of this approach, are being treated as vectors, such that P1 is the position for A, and the length of the line segment going from P1 to P2 is the magnitude.  Likewise for B, P3 and P4.

10:11 <Cepheid> Start with defining two new vectors, C = P1->P3, D = P1->P4.  Project C onto A, we get C1, parallel to A, and C2, perpendicular to A.  Repeat again with projection D onto A.

10:12 <Cepheid> The first thing to check at this point, is the resulting C2 and D2 vectors.  If they are on the same side relative to vector A's position, direction and magnitude, there is no collision.

10:13 <Cepheid> If however, the two vectors are facing away from one another, there is the potential that there was a collision/intersection.

10:13 <Cepheid> For that, we determine if the magnitude of vectors C1 and D1 are greater than the magnitude of the vector A.

10:14 <Cepheid> If they are, then there is no intersection.  If they are both equal to or less than the magnitude of A, then there is an intersection.

10:14 <Cepheid> At least, that is how my brain interprets it visually.

10:14 <Cepheid> It may be wrong.  I'd have to draw it on paper and test certain scenarios to see if that were the case.

10:14 <Cepheid> It also again, is missing a case.

10:16 <Cepheid> This... makes sense, right?  With how I'm expressing it, that is.  Not the math itself.

10:16 <Cepheid> Because one thing that might help my marks with stuff like discrete mathematics is if I started using proper terminology, or at least, expressed and defined the terminology I used such that the overall work is understandable.

10:16 <Finwe> Yup.

10:16 * Finwe is putting on his morning tailcoat.

10:17 <Finwe> Time to go to the wedding soon.

10:17 <Cepheid> Ah.

10:17 <Cepheid> Have fun.  Sounds like it's a lot more formal than my sister's wedding was.

10:17 <Cepheid> I still had to wear a suit, but not a tailcoat or anything like that.

10:18 <Cepheid> And I was allowed to wear running shoes, because of the location of the wedding.

10:19 <Cepheid> Hoping that the lucky couple end up doing better than my sister and her husband did.

10:19 <Cepheid> Something went wrong in my brother-in-law's head.  Not sure what.

10:19 <Cepheid> But he's been acting wildly out of character for a long while now, and it lead to their divorce, and now he's harassing my sister.

10:23 <Cepheid> I'm under the impression that it might be mental illness and that he needs to see a psych, but that's just me.

10:23 <Cepheid> I'm biased towards people seeing a psychiatrist these days, given what mine has done to help me, and how well that help worked out.

10:26 <Cepheid> I've been thinking of a modification to my desk, an interesting one.

10:27 <Cepheid> Basically, to start, fix up the top of the desk.  Go all over the wood, fill in holes with wood filler, sand the surface down smooth, and paint it over with some good, high-quality paint and maybe a sealer.

10:27 <Cepheid> Next, for the "legs' of the desk, which are just large cubby-holes that used to have shelves in them(They've gone missing), replace them with similarly-styled cubby-holes, except..

10:29 <Cepheid> On the right-hand side, I want to design the frame to be like a server rack.
