01:09 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Sethisto: Season 9 Episode 21 - Daring Doubt - Synopsis / Discussion [ http://tinyurl.com/yx8o6sad ]

01:16 <Cepheid> I wonder how many experimental implantable devices there are that can be used to monitor various biological attributes of one's body.

01:18 <Ali> Seth stop it, we haven't even had Episode 14 yet

01:20 <Cepheid> I'm surprised Hasbro's lawyers haven't stepped in yet.

01:27 <Cepheid> https://twitter.com/Mugicha24365/status/1155284513846468608

01:28 <Schism> Hm.  I just realized that the Fashion Report offers actual shorts.  Neat.

01:31 <Cepheid> https://twitter.com/MXF_official/status/1155270896388648960 That... is an impressive figure.

01:31 <Schism> Hmm, that is, yes.

01:38 <Cepheid> Ye know.

01:39 <Cepheid> The thyroid gland produces a hormone that affects various biological attributes, such as metabolism, how much energy one has, how much one sweats, and the like, right?

01:40 <Cepheid> Working under the assumption that the constant, incredible amount of sweating I do, one could assume that my thyroid is acting up.  And given it affects metabolism and energy, one could also assume it'd adversely affect my mood.

01:42 <Cepheid> I think when I go to pester the doctor tomorrow, I'll request a blood test to examine my thyroid hormone levels.

01:43 <Cepheid> As all the research I've been checking out indicates that I have hyperthyroidism.

01:45 * PinkieShy licks Ali

01:45 <Cepheid> ... And given that there is a severe, dangerous condition that can be triggered from severe emotional distress, I should probably get it checked out ASAP.

01:48 <Cepheid> It's a condition called thyroid storm.  It's where the body literally goes into an overdrive state.  Excessively high heart rate and blood pressure, high fever, persistent sweating, shaking, agitation, restlessness, confusion, diarrhea, and in extreme cases, unconsciousness.  o3o;

01:49 <Cepheid> "Thyroid storm develops abruptly and affects all systems of your body."

01:49 <Cepheid> That said, it's not what my body is going through.  Turns out that it has a 75% fatality rate.

01:52 <Cepheid> https://twitter.com/quesq_info/status/1155292089556467712 I wonder what they sound like.

06:17 <Ali> And the garbage thing is the fragments will only allow you weapons to fight the others and Moon Lord

06:19 <ConfusionRift> Blarg.

06:23 <Ali> I mean I can get to wave 15 of the pumpkin mood and wave 11 of the frost moon with the Solar Eruption and the Stardust summon

06:23 <Ali> But my armor is el crapo

06:27 <ConfusionRift> Yeah, in terms of defense, there's nothing above the beetle armor that's doable before taking out the Moon lord.

06:30 <Ali> And that defense sadly doesn't help out when only half of it is applied to damage reduction in normal mode.

06:51 <ConfusionRift> Blarg.

06:51 <ConfusionRift> Question... if you lose, do you have to go through the lunatic and the lunar events?

06:52 <ConfusionRift> ...again?

06:52 <Ali> Yes

06:52 <ConfusionRift> Oh come on.

06:53 <Ali> But if you somehow manage to get enough fragments

06:53 <Ali> You can craft a summoning item

06:53 <Ali> But in multi player and with bad luck in single

06:53 <Ali> You're not going to have enough fragments to do so the first time.

14:21 <Cepheid> "Still a bit silly that in 2019 that Linux devs have to fight with hardware vendors to support new buttons.  Especially Microsoft."  Need I remind you, Phoronix, that Apple hardware for the last several years did not work with Linux, and for the most part still doesn't.

14:22 <Cepheid> They only just got a driver to work with the "NVMe" drives put out for testing.  And the keyboard and touchpads are still extremely finicky if not broken still.

14:23 <Cepheid> Their NVMe drives or controllers don't follow the NVMe standard.  As a result, standard NVMe drivers don't work.

14:24 <Cepheid> You can't access the drives in Linux without this highly specialized and untested driver.

14:40 <Cepheid> I'd say that this was an abnormal case, but...

14:40 <Cepheid> Given the treatment I got at the hospital the other night...

14:40 <Cepheid> The only person who gave a damn was the security guard I requested.  He seemed to be focused on his job and took my concerns seriousky enough to even pat me down and check everything on me.

14:42 <Cepheid> And worst part is, he wasn't even supposed to be assigned to me.  I caught the hospital at shift change.  So he was assigned to me until shift change ended.  The security guard that replaced him just sat in her chair, gave me a "you're a twat" look and sat on her phone the rest of the time.

14:42 <Cepheid> She didn't look at all happy to be watching over me.  As if I were an inconvenience for her.

14:43 <Cepheid> The original guard seemed to be the only person who showed concern for me and wanted to make sure I was okay.

14:43 <Cepheid> Struck me as the only person there who took me seriously.

14:54 <Cepheid> Sorry about that.  Just annoyed.  It seems like as a society, we are concerned about the wellbeing of people, but when it comes down to it..

14:55 <Cepheid> We go "Oh, but there were no signs or indication that X would ever do such a thing!"

14:55 <Schism> Yeah.  ._.

14:56 <Schism> When there were, they just couldn't be bothered to /care./

14:56 <Cepheid> But then, here I am, telling a hospital that I have thsse occasional, inexplicable and incalculable outbursts, where my temper flares so badly I want to punch stuff, and I am legitimately terrified and concerned that I'll lose control of myself one day and hurt people.  And the hospital?

14:57 <Cepheid> They gave me a metaphorical pat on the back, a bit of paperwork and discharged me.

14:57 <Cepheid> We talk about how the signs weren't there when someone commits an atrocity.

14:58 <Cepheid> But it isn't that they aren't there.  But that we blooding fnarking ignore them.  Or they're invisible, so no one sees the signs and just assumes the person is exaggerating.

14:58 <Cepheid> I wanted to be locked up for a few days.

14:58 <Cepheid> Because there is something wrong with me and I want them to investigate.

14:59 <Schism> I'm not going to speak in their defense as such, but I'd not be surprised if the occasional hypochondriac comes through expressing symptoms like yours.

14:59 <Cepheid> A person shouldn't just simply go from peaceful, fun-loving, cat-petting-and-hugging guy to utterly rage-filled, wanting-to-hurt-people in less than a second.

15:00 <Cepheid> With absolutely NO indications that this might happen at that.

15:00 *** Joins: RyuImperator (RyuImperato@Pony-06b2et.dip0.t-ipconnect.de)

15:00 * Schism nods. :<

15:01 <Cepheid> I was fine that day.  I was in an uber with my sister.  We were talking about movies.  Then it got to discussing racism a bit, due to recent issues in movies.  Then bam.  0 to 100 in less than half a second.

15:02 <Schism> With no seeming causal trigger, at that.  ._.

15:02 <Cepheid> Followed by me raging for about 2 minutes, then collapsing to the floor in a feotal(sp?) position, crying and struggling to rein in the temper, and wondering why this meltdown even happened at all, as well as asking why I can't control it.

15:03 <Cepheid> Then after that, my mind just started going back and forth between different kinds of thought, and finally, absolute concern that if this keeps happening, one day I'm gonna go into a blind rage and do something I regret, and when I come to...

15:04 <Cepheid> I told the doctors all of this.  Down to minute details of what went through my head at every step of the way.

15:04 <Cepheid> And... Nothing.

15:04 <Cepheid> They gave me some anger management papers, and discharged me.  Probably because at the time, I was pretty calm and calculating.

15:04 <Cepheid> They couldn't see for themselves what was wrong.

15:05 <Cepheid> It was invisible.  It wasn't there.  As far as they could tell, there was nothing wrong.  How could they tell anything?  They couldn't see it.

15:05 <Cepheid> I am terrified of myself.

15:07 * Schism hugs Cepheid. "It's... impossible for most people to get that a panic attack like that is SERIOUSLY disturbing, and that sometimes one can come down from it just as quickly."

15:07 <Cepheid> Knowing that I can become that enraged at the drop of a pin, it's terrifying.  I should be locked up for the safety of others.  Instead, I have to deal with it through antisociak behaviours.  I don't have many frienda IRL, and I don't want to date.  One of the reasons why is my temper.  No one, not even my family, should be at risk of being aubjected to it.

15:08 <Cepheid> I keep to myself mostly for the sake of others.

15:08 <Cepheid> Anyways...  Sorry.

15:08 <Cepheid> I didn't mean to go on a tangent like that.

15:08 <Cepheid> I just needed to vent a bit.

15:09 <Schism> You've nothing to apologize for.

15:14 <Lumindia> Sometimes venting is something we have to do

15:15 <Lumindia> it's unhealthy to keep those kinds of feelings bottled up

15:15 <Lumindia> regardless of what happens, we're there for you, even if you just need us to listen

15:15 <Cepheid> I'm just gonna keep confidence that I'll keep myself in control, I guess.

15:15 <Schism> You still have yet to hurt anyone else.  Even at your worst.

16:06 <Cepheid> There's a game, Avorion.  Someone in a modding discussion Discord was counting the number of sectors with content, but he wasn't sure of the exact number.

16:37 <Cepheid> Man, one of these days, I should look into the implementation of this MSDF generator, and just write my own implementation, as the code of this library is garbage to work with.

16:52 <Cepheid> For example, the method to obtain the shape bounds takes, as parameters, references to doubles.  One would assume that the method assigns the bounds to the references, thus passing out multiple return values.

16:52 <Cepheid> But it turns out the method actually does something with the passed in values.  Scaling, looks like.

16:52 <Cepheid> So it not only returns the bounds of the shape, but also sets the shape size.

19:18 <Cepheid> So, on Twitter, a tweet that's making rounds is a picture showing someone asking about a dark room in Stranger Things, because they weren't sure what it was, because ye know, that's something that's rarely used these days, if at all, anymore.  The tweet in question was laughing at the question.

19:18 <Cepheid> I wonder when the current generation is gonna realize that these are kids and people who grew up after we stopped using dark rooms en masse because they BECAME UNNECESSARY.

19:19 <Cepheid> And the only reason the younger generation has no clue about dark rooms is because they're not needed anymore, and therefore, there is no exposure to them.

19:21 <Cepheid> It's like laughing at a kid who doesn't know what a record player is.

19:22 <Cepheid> The only people who use records or record players these days are anal-retentive assholes who insist they're still superior to digital formats.

19:22 <Cepheid> Therefore, unless these kids are hanging around these particular individuals, they aren't gonna know what a record is, or a record player is.

19:22 <Cepheid> No reason to laugh at them.  Same thing also goes for cassette players, VHS, etc.

19:31 <Schism> Dark rooms are still used in traditional photography, which many consider to be superior.

19:32 <Schism> Also, yeah.  Better to educate them.

19:34 <Cepheid> That may be so, Schism, but I don't see your average citizen taking pictures using a film-based camera, then going to the nearest dark room to develop the film, anymore.

19:36 <Cepheid> A majority of photo development is simply printed nowadays.

19:36 <Cepheid> Special kind of paper, and a high-quality printer, with calibrated software.
