00:20 <Cepheid> Hello Ali.
00:21 * Ali wavies.
00:21 <PinkieShy> .... I feel like cussing so badly right now.
00:22 <PinkieShy> My dog just got clawed at by a cat or slapped on the nose/snoot
00:22 <PinkieShy> Idk if he scratched my dog but the cat sure did slap with paw..
00:22 <PinkieShy> My dog isn't bleeding or didn't welp at all
00:22 <PinkieShy> So maybe just a warning slap.. The cat did hiss though..
00:23 <Ali> Yeah probably a warning slap and hiss to not mess with htem
00:23 <Cepheid> Yep.
00:23 <Cepheid> Common behavior among cats. Nothing to worry about.
00:24 <Cepheid> They do that to those they are unfamiliar with, just as a warning to say "you're getting too close" or "go away" mostly.
00:24 <Cepheid> Ours did it with my sister's dog when it was around.

00:27 <Cepheid> It happens.
00:27 <PinkieShy> Yea.. I am taking it as bad luck though
00:28 <Cepheid> But yeah, dogs are hyper and want to play with others a lot. The behavior can potentially be seen as aggression, or more commonly, annoying, by cats.
00:28 <ADragonDreaming> Cepheid: yes, and none that I've been informed of.
00:29 <ADragonDreaming> I will probably install the things tomorrow
00:29 <Cepheid> In any case don't take it so hard, Pinkie.
00:30 <Cepheid> Cool, cool. Meanwhile my new part arrives as well. I'll install it tomorrow myself as well. Currently I'd like to get some more sleep.
00:30 <Cepheid> Arrived*

01:46 <Cepheid> There are times when I want to try out American brands of certain drinks and foods. Chocolate milk is one of them. Especially since the Canadian variety is limited to one brand for the most part.
01:49 <Ali> Its press your luck sometimes. They can be good, but sometimes you get a miss.
01:52 * Ali rolls arounds.
01:52 <Cepheid> The stuff up here is thicker than regular milk, but has a smoother, more consistent texture.
01:54 <Ali> So what plans are for Factorio Cepheid, if any.
01:55 <Cepheid> Start another server, possibly with the RSO mod enabled and tweaked to adjust resource and bug spawns to be a bit less exponential in growth.
01:56 <Ali> RSO?
01:56 <Ali> See to be honest Cepheid, I haven't seen the ores get as exponetial as the bug bases do
01:57 <Ali> Like we've been running into ore patches that very rarely get over 5-6M
01:58 <Cepheid> Resource Spawner Overhaul. It tries to balance the ore spawning subsystem to generate nicer looking patches, as well as balance it out. To account for this, the bugs are spread out a bit more thinly.
01:59 <Ali> Yeah in vanilla the bug bases do dense up pretty stupidly quick
01:59 <Ali> Like we had to be careful at the start cause we had like 4 size bug bases extremely close.
02:10 * Ali yawns and flops over
02:15 <Cepheid> My biggest gripe with factorio remains the exponential growth in size and density of the ore.
02:18 <Ali> I haven't seen a amazingly large ore spot
02:18 <Ali> I mean I think 15M is the highest I've seen?

02:58 <Cepheid> Mmhmm. That's the problem. The ratio of required materials to amount of spawned materials is way off over short distances. I'd prefer a good rail world. Hum..
02:59 <Ali> The issue is you don't want to skew it too much that you can't get rails going early enough.
03:00 <Stormspark> but yeah, making a 3D model, of an action figure, based on the hideous MM1 US box art...lol
03:00 <Stormspark> I also can't guarantee this is making fun of the toilet paper situation but it might be

03:01 <Cepheid> Looks normal for that shelf section and store type.
03:02 <Cepheid> Coming from someone who used to do inventory for all sorts of stores.
03:02 <Stormspark> yeah but my point is
03:02 <Stormspark> there is an actual virus outbreak/zombie apocolypse
03:02 <Stormspark> and people didn't raid the stores for TP
03:02 <Cepheid> Yep. I know.
03:03 <Cepheid> Capcom, had this virus hit sooner, likely would have changed that as a result.
03:03 <Stormspark> they made changes to the visuals in that store between the demo and now
03:03 <Stormspark> I like to think it's a statement "even the folks in Raccoon City are smarter than people IRL"
03:04 <Cepheid> Thing about RE3R I keep hearing about is that it's short. Like, how short? I finished RE2R in 10 hours first run, 4 in second.

03:38 <Cepheid> I should have opted to stay awake instead of taking some seroquel to go back to sleep. Body and mind are resisting.
03:48 <Cepheid> Also got a headache brewing.
03:48 <Stormspark> first run of RE3R is 7-9 hours, depending on how much exploring you do
03:48 <Stormspark> people are watching speedrunners complete it in 2-3 and going "omg how short"
03:49 <Stormspark> a lot of the "playtime" of the original RE3 was door loading animations, none of that here
03:50 <Cepheid> Yes. And as it is a remake a lot of the puzzles are probably similar if not the same.
03:50 <Stormspark> there are fewer puzzles, and a lot of the locations are changed around
03:50 <Cepheid> Plus the argument still falls flat when you realize you can finish RE1 in two hours. Personal record.
03:50 <Stormspark> yep
03:50 <Stormspark> it's entitled whiners complaining
03:50 <Stormspark> "professional complainers"
03:51 <Stormspark> honestly calling RE3R a cash grab is an insult to people who had to deal with ACTUAL lazy cashgrabs (ahem, Warcraft 3 Refunded, which deserved the lowest rated game ever award it got because it retroacively destroyed the original)
03:51 <Cepheid> The games were designed with speed runners in mind. Even RE4 can be completed quickly.
03:51 <Stormspark> "It takes a special kind of incompetence to ruin the experience of people who didn't even buy the product"
03:52 <Cepheid> The length comes from cut scenes, exploring, and not being familiar with anything in the game.
03:52 <Stormspark> they basically hijacked people's original WC3 installs, and "updated" it to the new version, removing a bunch of graphic features, and offering to restore some (but not all) of them for money
03:52 <Stormspark> at least one person was running the original WC3 on a computer that couldn't run the new one, and got told by support "too bad, so sad, buy a new computer"
03:53 <Cepheid> Bluh.
03:53 <Stormspark> so people posted telling the guy how to get the original version back, and where to go to find old patch mirrors, and how to keep it from updating again
03:53 <Stormspark> and they got banned from the forums
03:53 <Stormspark> with some tech savviness you can get the original WC3 back, and even enable multiplayer with PVPGN. But that is "unintended". Blizzard does not intend for the original version to be available at all
03:54 <Stormspark> there are people trying to put RE3R in the same league as that trash, just for being "short" and "not being faithful" to the original because they changed some things
03:54 <Stormspark> they seemed to forget that the original RE3 was a filler game to give the Playstation something with the #3 in it because they had contracted with Sony for 3 games, and Code Veronica was the actual sequel to 2
03:55 <Stormspark> so they pumped out a quick game using RE2 assets
03:55 <Stormspark> that's not saying the original RE3 is a bad game, but it's a lesser game to RE2 in all aspects, and it's like people forgot that and expected the remake to be the second coming
03:56 <Stormspark> the boss fights are superior to RE2R, but RE2R is a superior game is most other ways. Doesn't mean RE3R is BAD though
03:56 <Cepheid> Mmhmm.

04:03 <Ali> Though headaches can be caused by any number of things
04:09 <Cepheid> That is true, but the problem is that these headaches have very specific traits to them.
04:10 <Cepheid> It is always thin, and travels up along my nose and around the eye. There is sensitivity in the areas, external and internal. Extreme cases spread the pain into the eye.
04:11 <Ali> Oh those suck
04:11 <Cepheid> Externally, tapping around the eye, specifically above the eye and the cheeks, will result in pain for sinus headaches.
04:12 * PinkieShy rolls around and looks at Ali
04:12 <Cepheid> Internally, within the nasal passage there will be a spot that, if touched by a q-tip, will burn like hell. Presumably this is actually the direct cause of the headache, as it is probably the sinus opening that is inflamed and swollen shut.
04:12 * Ali bleps at PinkieShy
04:16 <Cepheid> Honestly, sneezing seems to help. I wonder if it's because it loosens something or forces open, for even a moment, the relevant swollen opening.
04:18 <Cepheid> Took some tylenol, induced some sneezing, applied nasal spray. Should do the trick.

04:23 <Cepheid> I actually wonder how it'd fare with a date of 2020.
04:23 <PinkieShy> It would do well actually.
04:23 <Ali> So people still are intentionally trying to spread COVID 19
04:23 <PinkieShy> A youtuber did a video on it doing a test of it going up to the final year listed in the game files which is 2030
04:23 <Ali> But what's funny now though
04:24 <Ali> Is any knowingly spreading of COVID is now a terrorist act
04:24 <PinkieShy> on new years of 2030 it does say happy new year 2031, But the game resets itself to the lowest number year on launch of it again.
04:24 <Cepheid> Probably because of the 2036 problem.
04:24 <Ali> So these idiots being well...idiots
04:24 <Ali> Are getting arrested and charged with terrorism
04:24 <Ali> Couldn't happen to a better bunch of morons if you ask me.
04:25 <Cepheid> And no, it isn't a problem to panic about. It is basically a rehash of the Y2K bug.
04:25 <Ali> But why 2036?
04:26 <Cepheid> The UNIX clock counts from the epoch, set at some date I cannot recall right now. Anyways, the clock was defined as 32-bit. It is set to overflow in 2036.
04:27 <Cepheid> However, people are already working on resolving the problem. Most, if not all UNIX-likes have updated to using a 64-bit integer by now. The problem remains mostly in user application software now.
04:29 <Ali> Fun times
04:29 <Cepheid> The problem mostly stems from the assumption that these bits of software will never be used for as long as they are being used now. Turns out that assumption is wrong.
04:29 <Cepheid> Even now, thanks to COVID-19, we are starting to see problems in software.
04:30 <Ali> So by 2036 the portal to Equestria would've opened so we can GTFO of here.

Most of them are not known by modern developers because those languages have become deprecated. But it turns out these institutions and busin
04:32 <Cepheid> So right now? These institutions are in a bad place now. They are on the wrong side of the bargaining table.

04:44 <Cepheid> In anything computer-related, certifications are like degrees from colleges or universities.
04:44 <Cepheid> They get your foot in the door. The rest is up to you to keep up to date. And you'll be doing it perpetually.
04:44 <Cepheid> It never friggen stops.
04:45 <Cepheid> The education you have up there? Not worthless. You can apply it by passing forward what you know of those OSes to Windows 8, to help understand that better. Then 8.1, then 10, etc.
04:45 <Cepheid> That's how it works.
04:45 <Cepheid> Everything you get out of certification and formal education in the world of computing is a base from which to start with.
04:45 <Cepheid> It may not even be up to date.
04:46 <Cepheid> My university still isn't teaching C11 or C++11 yet, and they're still on Java 8.

04:46 <Cepheid> And C? Hell if I know, I Haven't followed it since I moved to C++, which often implements many of the later features of C anyways.

04:48 <Ali> It has to interest me first
04:49 * Finwe propeller caps on Ali.
04:49 <Cepheid> Mmhmm. But the block I see is unrelated to just that.
04:49 <Ali> Without an interest in it, it would feel forced and well, that goes over poorly.
04:49 <Cepheid> The two blocks I see are a lack of self-confidence, and the inability to make decisions. You're getting better with that last one, though.
04:50 <Cepheid> As you've been more independent with respect to multiplayer Factorio.
04:50 <Ali> I'm trying to not be a pest on asking about that as much
04:50 <Cepheid> I'm impressed with how far you've come from your starting days of Factorio.
04:50 <Cepheid> Don't think of it as "I'm being a pest in asking"
04:50 <Ali> I know right, I never thought I'd get the 8 hour achievement
04:50 <Cepheid> Think of it as "We got X, Y, and Z to do, I'm gonna go do X."
04:51 <Cepheid> That is, think of it as "I'm capable of making decisions towards some goal." rather than "I feel like I'm being a pest if I ask about what to do."
04:51 <Ali> But indecisibility is always going to be an issue. Its a daily struggle for me. Some days I do great, other days, no so much.
04:51 <Cepheid> Again, I am aware.
04:52 <Cepheid> I have OCD, I have ADHD, I have bipolar type-2. You don't see it, because the indecisiveness is in other areas that you cannot see, but in the real world?
04:52 <Cepheid> I am indecisive as ****.
04:52 <Ali> I'm sure there's some similarities to that and high functioning autism
04:52 <Ali> Just its so hard to overcome the shortfalls. Its a battle of two steps forwards and ten back
04:53 <Cepheid> Yep.
04:53 <Cepheid> Ali, think back, how many times have I started a new project over and over?
04:53 <Finwe> What's the maximum number of stars for indecisiveness?
04:53 * Ali shrugs
04:54 <Finwe> Is it like "I'm indecisive as ****/*****" or "****/**********"?
04:54 <Cepheid> I have started over and over and over, often from scratch, repeatedly. I know about the two-steps-forward, ten-steps-back.
04:54 <Ali> Like all my factorio saves >.>
04:54 <Ali> Get to X point, go screw it start over
04:54 <Cepheid> But you know what's important about the whole concept of "twp steps forward, ten steps back"?
04:55 <Cepheid> Those two steps forward taught you something. When you take those 10 steps back(Or rather, it's in reality 2 steps back, if you're starting over on something.) those two steps forward have taught you something. Something you can use for future attempts.
04:55 <Cepheid> I have restarted my projects so many times now I lost track, and each time I get a little further before I start over.
04:55 <Cepheid> And each time, I learn something new.
04:55 <Cepheid> Which I can then apply to later iterations to resolve problems I ran into in past iterations.
04:56 <Cepheid> Call it what you will, giving up, starting over, trying again, the reality is that you still learned something up to the point you make that decision.
04:56 <Ali> Ugh I got a bump on the very bottom of my nose
04:56 <Ali> I want it gone but touching make me sneeze
04:57 <Cepheid> If you try again, you'll use that knowledge to better your chances of success the next time. How the hell do you think you've gone from not even being able to launch a rocket in Factorio to getting a sub-eight-hour launch? :P

05:07 <Cepheid> Heh.
05:07 <Ali> It makes no dang sense to me
05:08 <Ali> Just call it a motherboard with what the dang slots are
05:08 <Ali> Nothing else
05:09 <Cepheid> I would not hold motherboard manufacturers responsible for that, entirely.
05:10 <Ali> Honestly I tried to build a PC recently by looking at parts online
05:10 <Ali> My head hurt the moment I looked at anything
05:10 <Ali> Even the AMD Ryzen series made no sense to me.
05:11 <Cepheid> It's a far more complicated problem to resolve. Getting motherboards with so few features is difficult not because motherboard manufacturers are being arseholes, but because of chipset designers.
05:11 <Cepheid> You're familiar with the names north and south bridge?
05:11 <Ali> Are those still even being used?
05:11 <Ali> I thought the north bridge got obsoleted recently
05:12 <Cepheid> Nowadays, they've been superseded by what is simply known as a "chipset"
05:12 <Cepheid> You see stuff like X470, X570, and so on for AMD, then there's <Whatever>39540 for Intel, ec.
05:13 <Ali> Look I don't mind small stuff like that
05:13 <Cepheid> These are "chipsets" that perform the tasks of the north and south bridge. But they do more than just that.
05:13 <Ali> but when the motherboard name gets to be three lines long, there's something wrong.
05:13 <Cepheid> All those extra components on motherboards. The onboard sound? The onboard LAN, etc?
05:13 <Cepheid> THat's all in the chipset.
05:14 <Ali> All Greek to me
05:14 <Ali> Also when is the dang costs of GPUs gonna come down
05:14 <Ali> $500 seems extreme
05:15 <Finwe> Καλι μερα, κυρια Ali.
05:15 <Cepheid> Mmhmm.
05:15 * Ali baps Finwe to engrish
05:16 <Ali> And that's for a Ryzen 5
05:17 <Finwe> Ryzen 5 based GPU?
05:17 <Cepheid> APU, probably.
05:17 <Cepheid> APUs are CPUs with integrated GPUs. A waste of money if you ask me. Better off buying a plain CPU, as it costs less by far.
05:18 <Finwe> Yup, and a separate graphics card.
05:18 <Ali> This was a separate GPU
05:18 <Cepheid> Then it's not Ryzen.
05:18 <Ali> Though how can you tell if the motherboard you're looking at is wasted with an onboard one?
05:18 <Cepheid> You're thinking VEGA.
05:18 * Ali headtilts
05:18 <Ali> Oohh Ryzen is the CPU
05:19 <Ali> I'm a derp
05:19 <Cepheid> That or Radeon.
05:19 <Finwe> o3o
05:19 <Cepheid> Vega and Radeon are the current names for their video cards. Ryzen is the brand name for the CPUs.
05:19 <Finwe> Ryzen 5 should have VEGA 11 integrated.
05:19 <Ali> Well the PHenom II is the CPU
05:19 <Finwe> Ryzen 5 2400G, that is.
05:19 <Cepheid> Hum. That should be sufficient to get the motherboard out, but uh.. Hmm.
05:19 * Finwe ruffles the Ali.
05:23 <Finwe> Hmm, my graphics card obviosly has a Phenom II X6 processor. o3o
05:23 <Cepheid> I should probably be more worried about static electricity than I currently am, but years of experience tells me that it's hard to damage components these days.
05:24 <Ali> Nothing better than uhhh, what is it called again when you zap your system?
05:25 <Finwe> Static shock?
05:25 <Ali> No I thought it had a term for it
05:26 <Cepheid> Electrostatic Discharge, Static Shock, Blue Smoke Syndrome.
05:26 <Ali> Ah ESD
05:26 <Cepheid> I'm debating poking out to my dad's car to get his ESD stuff.
05:26 <Cepheid> .... I think I will, just to be safe.
05:26 <Ali> Just touch the sides of the case before sticking fingers in it
05:27 <Finwe> Ah, I just got a new protein to fold.
05:27 <Cepheid> Yeah, I think I'll be fine actually. I don't want to wake up my parents with going outside.
05:28 <Ali> Or keep a hand on the case if you can
05:28 <Cepheid> Or arm.
05:28 <Ali> Just anything to keep the charge from going to the electronics
05:28 <Cepheid> Let's see, how is this heatsink attached again..? *Reads manual for old heatsink*
05:29 <Cepheid> Ah, right. Easy peasy then.
05:30 <Cepheid> Hum. Doesn't look like the thermal paste had a good connection to the CPU..
05:31 <Cepheid> Okay, I need to go out and get the bag from my dad's car. I need something from it for this.
05:33 * Finwe noms on Ali's tail.
05:34 <Cepheid> Or, nevermind.
05:34 <Cepheid> I can't find it in the car.
05:34 * Ali squeaks at Finwe
05:36 <Cepheid> That'll have to do, I suppose.
05:42 <Cepheid> Right. This should be enough for keeping it out of the case. Back into the case it goes.
05:43 <Cepheid> Hmm. *Does something quickly while motherboard is out of case.*
05:51 <Cepheid> Heh, doing that actually made it easier for me to re-install the motherboard. Anyhoo, let's see now..
05:55 <Cepheid> Right then, let's see.. Cooler is installed in... THIS orientation. And the thermal paste..
05:56 <Ali> What the paste for? Reapplying it?
05:56 <Cepheid> Yeah.
05:56 * Ali confuzzles
05:56 <Cepheid> The old paste can't be used.
05:56 <Cepheid> Any time you change a cooler, you need to clean the old paste off and apply new stuff.
06:00 <Cepheid> Let's make sure I got everything before I do this next step. Cooler. Plastic cover on it removed. Thermal paste. Plate to hold cooler in place. Screws. Got it all.
06:02 <Ali> Meanwhile one is missing
06:03 <Cepheid> Oh sweet geezus this is gonna be tricky to do.

06:18 <Cepheid> The two biggest problems are getting the mounting screws in, because you have to somehow slide the scre in between the two heatsinks to get it on the screwdriver *AFTER* it's been threaded through another hole. Then after you get the screws in, you need to slide a small fan in between the two heatsinks, and attach it via clips which aren't easy to use.
06:20 * Cepheid stands case upright. Yep, cooler's on there good.
06:21 <Ali> Clank
06:21 <Ali> Dere be a screw loose
06:21 <Cepheid> Hard for it to do that. Even with loose screws.
06:21 <Ali> Oh wait
06:21 <Ali> Dats mine
06:21 * Ali noms it
06:23 <Cepheid> I also tightened all the screws to make sure they were on there good, so it's not going anywhere.
06:24 * PinkieShy pops in a cough drop to help with his coughing fits
06:24 <Ali> Well people say I'm screwy
06:24 * Ali ducks
06:27 * Cepheid installs the PSU right-side up while he's at it.
06:31 <Ali> Cause an upside down one would work funny
06:33 <Cepheid> Well, no, not that. Just the cables are better managed if it's the right-side up, strangely.
06:34 * Cepheid checks amazon for something.
06:36 <Cepheid> Bah. I'll have to research this later.
06:39 <PinkieShy> ...

06:46 * ConfusionRift huggles Ali back.
06:48 <Cepheid> Dude, I've been coughing up a storm for weeks now, I'm not gonna panic from you coughing.
06:54 <Cepheid> Okay, that's all internal power cables hooked up. All SATA cables hooked up. Now to replace the fans I removed to get stuff in and out.
06:54 <ConfusionRift> That's more coughing as I try to catch my breath. Works has gotten so bad, especially with more and more people panicking and customer restrictions. In any case, I'm fine.
06:55 <Cepheid> Do me a favour, then.
06:55 <Cepheid> At least keep an eye on the coughing and breathing.
06:56 * ConfusionRift sighs.
06:56 <Cepheid> No, I know, it's just me over-worrying.
06:57 <Cepheid> I know how exhausting and draining working at a walmart can be.
06:57 <Cepheid> C'mon... Get.. in.. THERE.
06:58 <ConfusionRift> It's not the thing. It's me just getting exhausted from all the madness. Yes, we close at 8:30pm. But for the most part, I can't do any zoning or organization till then. And yes, I still leave at 10pm..ish. They have been giving me problems, and I can't do a darn thing about it.
06:59 <ConfusionRift> They gave me 1/3 of housewares to worry about as well. So... yeah, exhaustion and dehydration.
07:00 <ConfusionRift> My co-workers seem to not be doing much anymore, and it feels like everything else is falling on me. It's infuriating, but I can't do a thing, so no point on wasting energy on that.
07:00 <ConfusionRift> So I do my work, clear everything, and leave.
07:01 <Cepheid> Note to self: Ask dad to grab me some plastic screws for case fans. Missing some, and just doing the diagonals likely introduces vibrations.
07:02 <ConfusionRift> I have reached the point where I just don't care. I do what I gotta do and that's that. If they send me to the office right now, it WILL get really loud.
07:03 <ConfusionRift> It's to the point that I might just throw my badge at their face and walk out.
07:03 * Ali hugs the ConfusionRift
07:03 <Ali> its a stupid stressful time to be a retail employee
07:03 <ConfusionRift> It is.
07:03 <Ali> And they should be happy to still have a job right now with 90% of America on forced layoff
07:04 <Ali> But nah, lets slack off bro
07:04 <ConfusionRift> Fun fact: there IS a customer quantity restriction in place. But check this garbage out.
07:05 <Ali> Its not being followed I bet
07:05 <Ali> I'm surprised that most mega stores don't have 2/3s of the store blocked off
07:05 <Cepheid> Right. That should do it.
07:06 <Ali> The only thing open should be food/pet supplies/HBC
07:06 <Ali> You don't need new clothes, you don't [redacted] dressing rooms. And you don't need a new patio suite
07:07 <ConfusionRift> They go by percentage, in this case being 20% of a building's overall people capacity. So... Walmart's max capacity here is approximately 5000 people. That means the max the store can have at a time due to the restriction is... 1000. So... ... ...what's the point again?
07:08 <Ali> 1000 people?
07:08 <Ali> Math, that work somehows
07:08 <ConfusionRift> Yes.
07:08 <Ali> That's still a large crowd of people
07:08 * ConfusionRift nods.
07:10 <ConfusionRift> Making the math, you can have more than 5 people squashed in each aisle of every department. So... pfffftttt.
07:12 <Cepheid> She lives!
07:12 <ConfusionRift> It's alive!
07:12 <ConfusionRift> ...what's alive?
07:13 <Cepheid> My PC. I installed a new cooler and rewired it.
07:13 <ConfusionRift> Nice.
07:14 <Cepheid> Old CPU cooler was loud as hell under any slight load. So I replaced it.
07:14 * ConfusionRift should clean his at some point... in the future... some time soon... as the sun rises and sets... as the flowers bloom and the wind blows... perhaps then...
07:14 * ConfusionRift turns on the old server. "Jet turbine... ON!"
07:16 <Ali> BREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
07:16 <Ali> Is it just me or did it get toasty in here?
07:16 <Cepheid> Seriously, the Wraith Prism cooler that comes with the AMD 7 2700x is *LOUD*
07:16 <ConfusionRift> Odd. Thought it would be quiet.
07:17 <Ali> I will say the computer is lounder now that the CPU is running harder
07:17 * ConfusionRift laughs.
07:17 * Ali sits and bleps
07:17 <ConfusionRift> The cost of performance. :P
07:17 <ConfusionRift> But it's better now, no?
07:17 <Ali> Rather have a CPU running at higher levels that struggle to run anything
07:17 * Cepheid grabs prime95. Stresses CPU to see what temps he gets.
07:18 <Ali> ITS OVER NINE THOUSANNNNDDD
07:18 * Ali shot for old meme
07:19 <Ali> So what shoulds we aims for wiff Factorios? I'd still love to try a mega base but things just never seem to work outs.
07:19 <Cepheid> 75C under full load. Max limit is 85C. And I don't even think the cooler's running at full capacity 'cause BIOS stupidity.
07:19 * Cepheid goes to BIOS to fix BIOS stupidity.
07:19 * Ali beep codes
07:20 <ConfusionRift> I'm down for anything. I'm gonna be doing a whole lot of nothing for three days.
07:21 <ConfusionRift> Actually... let me check something.
07:21 <Ali> Well I'm doing better performance wise, but things are just gonna get strange.
07:21 * Ali bleps
07:22 <Cepheid> I'll likely be joining finally since I'm currently aligned sleep-wise with you two nuts.
07:24 <Cepheid> Okay, yeah. This thing's working nice. Stock cooler couldn't run prime95 without it approaching 90C at Tctl. This is topping at 75C on Tctl. Tdie doesn't go past 63C.
07:24 <Cepheid> And at load, I still can't hear this cooler.
07:25 <Ali> Still need to decide on what map to do and how its loaded out
07:25 <ConfusionRift> Oh, starting from scratch?
07:25 <ConfusionRift> Then again, we did launch already.
07:26 <Cepheid> I mean, we can stick with what you guys got. Otherwise..
07:26 <Ali> If cephy is joining, I don't think it should be late game?
07:26 <Cepheid> I don't care either way.
07:26 <Ali> Eh, the bug bases are too dense anyway and the main base needs so much reworking...
07:26 <ConfusionRift> In other words, TIME WARP!
07:26 <Ali> Pretty much
07:27 <Ali> And with three of us, shouldn't take too long to get things up to snuff again.
07:27 * ConfusionRift checks his schedule and bleeps hard.
07:27 <Ali> And maybe make sure the stupid bus is set up better...
07:27 <ConfusionRift> B-be right back.
07:28 <Cepheid> Okay..
07:29 <Cepheid> So, here's the final end-result.
07:29 <Cepheid> According to the Ryzen Master software, which is, for Ryzen CPUs, the defacto software for precision overdrive stuff, CPU temps and the like..
07:29 <Cepheid> The thermal control limit is 95C.
07:29 <Cepheid> My current temperature is 63C.
07:30 * Ali rolls around
07:30 * Cepheid stops burnin test.
07:34 * Ali honestly wonders what would be the best thing for a new world, rail world causes issues cause sometimes it spawns things you need REALLY REALLY far off.
07:35 * ConfusionRift returns.
07:36 <ConfusionRift> Normally, the thermal threshold of CPUs is around 95C, or it's around the point when the hardware starts throttling.
07:38 <Cepheid> Yep.
07:38 <Cepheid> Dagnabit, one of the wires must be touching a fan. Hear a warbling noise all of a sudden.
07:41 * Ali warbles herself.
07:41 <ConfusionRift> Then again, that thing is still (sees the CPU's TDP) NEVER mind. That's... hmm.
07:42 <Cepheid> Still a lower TDP than the old system's CPU.
07:44 * Ali sits and bleps
07:47 <Cepheid> Right, so warbling noise is coming from somewhere near the BOTTOM of the case.
07:47 * ConfusionRift doesn't know of a good map, so...
07:50 <Cepheid> PSU.
07:50 <ConfusionRift> Blarg.
07:50 <Cepheid> It's coming from the PSU.
07:50 <ConfusionRift> That's... an issuuuueeeee.
07:50 <ConfusionRift> Let me check map possibilities and such.
07:54 * Cepheid removes power supply to take a look at it.
07:54 * ConfusionRift flops near Ali as, for some reason, the game is taking a while to load.
07:55 * Ali doesn't know, is more waiting on decisions to be made as she flops over.
07:58 <ConfusionRift> Ribbon world! Hahahaaaaa! No, just kidding.
07:59 <Ali> Did one of those, never again
08:00 <ConfusionRift> Did something similar, and no. I got locked up really fast.
08:01 <Cepheid> It's the PSU, definitely. I even went so far as to disconnect every other fan just to check, with exception to the CPU fan. The sound is distinctly coming from the PSU.
08:01 <ConfusionRift> Hopefully it's not the case of something falling in it.
08:07 <Cepheid> Sounds like a bad bearing.
08:10 * Cepheid goes to look for a new modular power supply.
08:12 * Ali rolls around boredly.
08:12 <Cepheid> I won't be Factorioing now. Sorry.
08:13 <Cepheid> My PC is pretty much out of commission until I resolve the PSU issue.
08:14 <Cepheid> It powers on, it runs, but the noise is abominable.
08:14 * Ali understands
08:14 * ConfusionRift boops Ali. "We could still mess around the old map for now."
08:15 <Ali> Seems kinda pointless if there's going to be a reset soon.
08:15 <ConfusionRift> Okaday.
08:19 <Cepheid> I'm honestly not shocked that this happened.
08:19 <Cepheid> Danged PSU is 10 years old anyways.
08:23 * ConfusionRift rolls around with Ali.
08:25 <Cepheid> Hum, that one looks sufficient. Very well, I'll see about picking it up later when the store opens.
08:30 * Cepheid looks at C19 news.
08:31 <Cepheid> If I had no morals, I'd put money on Japan being the target of the next major outbreak.
08:32 <Cepheid> The reason being that their work mentality is likely going to work against them very badly.
08:32 <Ali> Well when you have to work 18 hours a day to make it by
08:32 <Cepheid> They don't do that to make it by.
08:33 <Cepheid> They do it because of a sense of honor and duty, really.
08:34 <Cepheid> Based on what I've heard and read about their work behaviour, a lot of it is just a case of "My co-workers and superiors aren't leaving yet, so I shouldn't either."
08:34 <Cepheid> And that leaving at your intended time when everyone else is still "hard at work" is considered bad practice.
08:34 <Cepheid> Their transit system also presents a major problem, as while it's... not overloaded, they are densely packed.
08:35 <Ali> They're more accustomed to using facemasks than the US is though?
08:35 <Cepheid> They are, yeah.
08:35 <Cepheid> So that might help slow it down, especially if they start panic buying and wearing them whether they need to or not.
08:36 <Cepheid> As it is, their PM is already messing it up. I don't entirely know *WHY* though.
08:39 <Cepheid> The only logical reason I can assume any country will refuse to implement procedures immediately is not so much that it takes time, but because of the impact to the local markets.
08:40 <Ali> Or they know better than we do to make it a full on lockdown?
08:40 <Ali> But again, I'm gonna stop there cause I'll cause a massive arguement
08:40 <Cepheid> Except the PM isn't making it a full lockdown. He has barely been commenting on the whole thing.
08:40 <Cepheid> It's a huge cluster**** of a problem, really.
08:40 * Ali keeps mouth shut, would rather not argue
08:42 <Cepheid> Fair enough.
08:42 <Ali> I have my own thoughts on all this, but it kinda contradicts about 99% of people's thoughts so...I'll keep it to myself to prevent arguements

21:53 <Cepheid> As for why I'm only thinking of single-threaded overclocking, it's because games are mostly single-threaded, or rely on single-threaded performance rather than multicore. Factorio's one such case.

22:29 <Stormspark> (since 3DS is easy to homebrew, Switch is not)
22:32 <Cepheid> Actually...
22:33 <Golden> There is an official Metroid Samus Returns remake on the 3DS already
22:33 <Cepheid> While the 3DS is definitely easier to homebrew, the Switch has greater functionality overall, because it is quite literally just a pre-existing SBC that has a Linux distro for it.

22:45 <Cepheid> Which presents problems for certain game series that want to continue.
22:45 <Ali> And that be?
22:52 <Cepheid> Dual screen nature is required for some games, in a sense.
