00:08 <Cepheid> You know what would be a good RPG mindscrew?  If the final boss turned out to be an entity disguised as a completely generic NPC that was wandering the main town for the player.  They have no voice lines as such, they offer generic NPC commentary and wander around.  You get to the depths of the ruins of an eldritch horror's castle, and out comes the generic NPC to face you.

00:08 * Schism knows a game like that. Where the True Final Boss turned out to be a completely inconsequential NPC.

00:09 <Lumindia> kek

00:09 <Cepheid> It isn't a bad idea, either.

00:09 <Lumindia> and their reason for being a big bad is super mundane or some such?

00:10 <Lumindia> or are they ACTUALLY an eldritch horror?

00:10 <Schism> In this case, they turned out to be Lucifer.

00:10 <Lumindia> kek

00:10 <Lumindia>

00:10 <Cepheid> Just an ancient evil eldritch god, just disguised as an everyday citizen to monitor things, but not doing any sort of espionage type stuff.  Nothing even remotely suspicious.

00:11 <Schism> Well, Izanami.

00:11 <Lumindia> just kinda there as a regular townsperson for the hell of it?

00:11 <Cepheid> Just generic text.  No special portraits.  A regular NPC name.  No voiceovers to give them away.

00:11 <Schism> In this case, they were a gas station attendant.

00:11 <Schism> Anyway.  Off to work again~

00:11 * PinkieShy offers Schism some sweet and sour chicken

00:11 <Cepheid> I know the game you reference.

00:12 <Lumindia> I'd like to see that possibly taken a step further. Have that same sprite show up in every major town the player visits, and maybe it'll get the player wondering "Why does this one particular NPC keep showing up in every single town?

00:13 <Cepheid> Though they kind of gave away from the start that there was something special about them.  The reason you don't suspect them at the end is because all the other stuff makes you forget that encounter.

00:13 <Lumindia> so it's like 'mildly special, but nothing terribly interesting'

00:14 <Cepheid> In contrast to the rest of the game, the NPC in question was forgettable and inconsequential.

00:15 <Cepheid> The character was designed to be forgettable intentionally so that you would forget them.

00:16 <Cepheid> Problem is, when you think back to them, you realize that the interaction with them should have tipped you off immediately.

00:16 * PrincessRainbows flops on Ali and whimpers

00:16 <Cepheid> Your character shakes their hand, and shortly after suffers a headache or something like that.

00:17 <Cepheid> Few days later, the main event starts.

00:17 *** Joins: FruitNibbler (Eogan@Pony-00ls7e.dip0.t-ipconnect.de)

00:17 <Cepheid> And because of their forgettable nature, you simply don't connect the dots.

00:18 <Cepheid> In fact, if I recall correctly, you never see them again after that point, until the critical juncture.

00:19 *** Quits: Fn (Eogan@Pony-oj7tg5.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

00:19 <Cepheid> Which requires an obtuse amount of work to get to.  You need to talk to certain NPCs, then go to a certain point.  Then voila, they re-appear and reveal their true identity.

00:21 <Cepheid> They also kinda break the rules of the game a bit at that point.  It is implied everything after that point takes place during one day.

00:21 <Cepheid> And that fatigue and such are no longer a thing.

00:23 <Cepheid> Speaking of that series, I still not have completed the most recent entry.

00:24 <Cepheid> Can't bring myself to do so since it "triggered" a quirk in my brain that prevents me from continuing.

00:29 <Cepheid> Essentially, while I can analyze an infinite number of potentialities if I so choose to do so, I am too trusting.  I assume the best if people.  I am also extremely oblivious to inconsistencies and small details.

00:31 <Cepheid> Great.  I am overthinking now.  I can't afford to game tonight.  That new medicine is knocking me up hard.  I also don't want to sit in front of my PC at the moment.

00:31 <Cepheid> !link https://youtu.be/bQ7ruKexLWI

00:31 <DerpyBot> I need to ask Twilight about that one.

00:31 <DerpyBot> Twilight told me this video is about Ys: The Oath in Felghana \\\"The Strongest Foe\\\"

00:34 <Cepheid> Really, one if these days, I should talk with my counselor about these supposedly inconsequential details from video games that poke me.  I know they are just video games, and I shouldn't let them affect me as much as they do.  But some of them do point out glaring weaknesses and flaws with me better than interactions with people do.

01:02 * PrincessRainbows hugs PinkieShy and boops the snoot

01:04 <Schism> Urg.  I don't particularly mind getting MTO'd.  I think I'm going to konk out for the rest of the night.

01:14 <Cepheid> I'm doing the same.  New meds are throwing me for a loop.

10:40 <Cepheid> That's generally why I don't look at trending anymore.

10:41 <ConfusionRift> "We are sorry we caused this mess, hope everyone can forgive us... NAH, just kidding. Let the chaos continue!"

10:41 <Cepheid> I also have it set such that Trending is more incomprehensible than usual.  Usually through showing me topics in a language I don't understand.

10:49 * Schism patpats the PrincessRainbows.

10:49 <ConfusionRift> "So which track are you-" | YES! (drifts) | "NANI?!"

10:50 <RazorSharpFang> Trolley problem? No Problem. Multi-track drifting.

10:51 <Schism> What, so you can kill all six people?

10:51 <ConfusionRift> If you blow up the problem, then you won't have to worry about it anymore.

10:51 <RazorSharpFang> It's solving overpopulation uWu

10:51 <ConfusionRift> There aren't people at the end of the tracks. :P

10:52 <Schism> "As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero."

10:52 <Cepheid> The issue I have with the trolley problem is the insistence that it is a problem and then, when a person answers, they make it more of a problem by changing variables to keep it a problem.

10:53 <ConfusionRift> I think that's the paradox of the trolley problem.

10:53 <Cepheid> Simple logic dictates that it would be preferable to save all people.  But if that is not possible, then, one dead person is better than four dead people.  Pull the lever.

10:53 <RazorSharpFang> It's usually phrased in a way like a cooperative dance through variants of the problem.

10:54 <Schism> There was a group who actually did the trolley problem in its purest form.  Blinding, and setting up a scenario to look like it was real.  Unfortunately, of their group... very few people were able to actually pull the lever when it came down to it.

10:54 <Cepheid> But if you start adding new variables to make it more of a problem in the argument, then you're just being a dick.

10:54 <RazorSharpFang> The key phrase was cooperative.

10:54 <RazorSharpFang> If they're not into it, then it ceases to be cooperative.

10:55 <RazorSharpFang> These sorts of things need consent.

10:55 <Schism> In a way, those additions in complexity illustrates another cognitive concern.

10:55 <Schism> illustrate*

10:55 <Cepheid> "Why are you making this harder and harder?  What is the point?"

10:56 <RazorSharpFang> Some people find this kind of thing worth doing for its own sake - that's up to the person.

10:57 <Cepheid> You gave me a simple problem.  I answered it in a logical manner.  Why are you adding to the problem?  what, exactly, are you trying to prove?  That I'm a sociopath?  That you're a sociopath?

10:57 <RazorSharpFang> Perhaps they thought you'd be more into it.

10:57 <ConfusionRift> ...

10:58 <RazorSharpFang> Nothing is for everyone, but sometimes you do find that you share some things in common.

10:58 <Cepheid> People say there is value in human life.  But that it is indescribable.  Four lives, as such, are of greater value than one.

10:59 <Cepheid> You can't make me decide based on potential scenarios that could result.  Because they are potential scenarios.  There is no guarantee they will happen.

10:59 <RazorSharpFang> Your phrasing is indicating that you don't wish to participate, so you shouldn't.

11:00 <Cepheid> Yes.  But at the same time, I want to know why they make the problem ever more difficult.

11:00 <Cepheid> Where is the value in it?

11:00 <Cepheid> What is it that you are trying to do or prove by changing the problem over and over each time a person makes a choice?

11:00 <RazorSharpFang> The value is the same in making a dance with more moves, a song with additional layers - some people view philosophy as an art form.

11:01 * ConfusionRift sighs.

11:01 <RazorSharpFang> It would be ridiculous to force someone to dance if they don't want to.

11:02 <Schism> Anyhoo.

11:02 <RazorSharpFang> I am glad it's friday, and that tomorrow is saturday. My work day is over, I can rest.

11:02 <Cepheid> The Trolley Problem, or any problem involving human life, seems like an attempt by the person presenting it to prove some form of philosophical or moral superiority, because each time a choice is made, they change the parameters, making the decision more controversial, until they find some breaking point in their test subject, and thus "win" something.

11:03 <RazorSharpFang> That is quite the adversarial viewpoint.

11:03 * Schism headshakes. "I don't think I'd go at it like that. I'd simply say, 'yes, you know the right answer intellectually, but when it comes down to it, would many people be able to pull the lever under those circumstances, because inaction can seem less threatening than positive action?'"

11:03 <Cepheid> Someone chooses to pull the lever, then the presenter of the problem could change the parameters.  Say that one of the four people is Hitler.

11:04 <ConfusionRift> You do know that many do it just to be funny, right? At the end of the day, it was more of a "social experiment" when it came down to it. People grabbed that formula, and changed it. At the end of the day, it's a theoretical situation that is not currently happening. One can just walk out of it.

11:04 <Cepheid> So if you make that same choice, they could then argue you advocate for letting Hitler live.

11:04 <RazorSharpFang> What's the point in changing the problem? No more point than changing the meme format, remixing the song, adjusting the play, etc.

11:04 <Cepheid> I just...  Don't like these kinds of moral questions.  They are geared against you.

11:05 <RazorSharpFang> Are you sure you're not specifically talking about one person who's not very good at this?

11:05 <Cepheid> No.  This was brought up in my psychology class.

11:05 <Schism> Cepheid: "What do you consider your worst feature?"  Stupid employers.

11:05 <Cepheid> And the problem was continually escalated.

11:06 <RazorSharpFang> Perhaps the instructor isn't handling this very well. A bad teacher will make you hate almost anything.

11:06 <ConfusionRift> Hmm, it's starting to make sense now.

11:06 <Cepheid> It, as I just demonstrated above, eventually invoked Godwin's Law.

11:06 <Cepheid> At which point I lost and was insulted.

11:06 <RazorSharpFang> That is my second favourite law.

11:07 <Schism> In the case of a continual escalation, I think that the problem might show off some of the concerns with consequentialism and utilitarianism.  However, if you were insulted for that... no.

11:07 <Cepheid> Basically, by choosing to save four people, one of whom was Hitler, regardless of the value of the other people, I was in the wrong.

11:07 <RazorSharpFang> That's the moment it's gone truly sideways - the entire premise of the problem is that there is no right answer.

11:08 <RazorSharpFang> If this was in a try-catch I would have caught it by now.

11:08 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Calpain: Morning Discussion #1988 [ http://tinyurl.com/y9t5zqfq ]

11:08 <Cepheid> Except to me there is.  You save four lives at the cost of one.  It's simple logic.  Either way, someone dies.  Minimize the losses.

11:09 <RazorSharpFang> The moment you're talking about right v wrong - you're in the perspective of a particular philosophical school of thought as well as having whatever additional assumptions or axioms you're applying.

11:09 <RazorSharpFang> It's clear that there can be foundational disagreements.

11:09 <Cepheid> I would rather assume that the singular individual would prefer that I kill them over four other people.  The long-term psychological consequences would outweigh any potential benefit of saving that one person.

11:10 <Schism> If you want to look at a pure example of the trolley problem -- no escalation, just the question of whether destructive inaction is perceived by people as less threatening than less-destructive action -- then here's a video showing the actual experiment.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sl5KJ69qiA

11:10 <Cepheid> I know that if someone chose to save me over the other four people, I would not be able to live with myself or their choice.

11:10 <Cepheid> The psychological impact would be too great.  Blood is on my hands, or life if you prefer, even if I was not the one at the lever.

11:11 <Schism> RSF: Deontologism vs. utilitarianism?  o3o

11:11 <RazorSharpFang> Schism, I don't know anything, but like, in general.

11:12 <RazorSharpFang> Cepheid, I wouldn't be so hasty to attribute blood so.

11:12 <RazorSharpFang> But that's me, and I am not you. *Captain obvious*

11:12 <Cepheid> Perhaps.  But the psychological impact of the knowledge that four people died to save you is still not to be taken lightly.

11:13 <Cepheid> It could destroy a person.

11:13 <Cepheid> In fact, I consider that too great a risk that even if the problem was escalated by saying that one person would later on invent a cure for cancer...  I would still pull the lever.

11:14 <Schism> Also, from a realistic perspective, how do you know that would happen?

11:15 <RazorSharpFang> There is a theory that reality is nondeterministic.

11:15 <Cepheid> And that there is a part of the escalation problem that I have with moral/philosophical problems.

11:15 <Schism> Any ideological argument which assumes perfect knowledge is by its nature flawed.

11:16 <Cepheid> Besides.

11:16 <Schism> Unless, that is, you're Hari Seldon.

11:17 <Cepheid> Suppose one of the four helpless people were Hitler.

11:17 <RazorSharpFang> I'd want to know why Hitler's still alive.

11:17 <Cepheid> He's helpless.  I save the four of them, and curb stomp Hitler's head 'til he's not moving anymore.

11:18 <RazorSharpFang> Why tho?

11:19 <Cepheid> I don't know, RSF.  I assume he's used because of the wide amount of hatred towards him.  The hope I'm guessing us that introducing him changes your answer.

11:20 <RazorSharpFang> Without being in the position of power from before, all Hitler is is a failed art student who likes to blame the problems of the world on those who he deems privileged.

11:20 <Cepheid> That it somehow magically makes you reconsider whether it us then morally right to kill 3 innocent people.

11:21 <RazorSharpFang> Whenever the trolly problem was brought up to me, it was used as a catapult to ask other questions, not really used for its own sake, but for the sake of a discussions about philosophy more generally.

11:22 <Cepheid> In the case I was introduced to, it was used to discuss the philosophy and morality of killing one versus four people, the value of human life, etc, etc, etc.

11:23 <Cepheid> Also how to make quick decisions based on limited infirmation.

11:23 <Cepheid> ...  Autocorrect, are you drunk?

11:23 <RazorSharpFang> infirm.

11:24 <Schism> Cepheid: Indeed, limited information is the important thing there.

11:25 <Cepheid> The thing is, though, as I demonstrated, you can kill one person and save four.  If there were any truly atrocious people in the survivors, you just kill them afterwards.

11:25 <Cepheid> And if all four were atrocious people, well...

11:25 <Cepheid> You missed out on multi-track drifting.

11:26 <RazorSharpFang> Is there something that someone can do that makes them beyond any redemption whatsoever?

11:26 <Cepheid> Genocide?

11:26 <Schism> Couple things I can think of.

11:27 <Schism> Rather than stating one outright, I will simply allude to the Catholic Church and the BSA.

11:27 <Cepheid> Letting people die by the tens of thousands or more while you sit atop your golden throne in safety?

11:27 <RazorSharpFang> I happen to have a controversial opinion here. No-one is beyond redemption, except those who refuse redemption. \

11:27 <Schism> Cepheid: Heh.  I see what you've done there.

11:27 <Schism> Eh, that's an understandable opinion there, RSF.  And I wish that I felt the same.

11:28 <Cepheid> There is no justification for the systemic mass murdering of people.  To me, such an individual is beyond redemption.

11:29 <RazorSharpFang> To redeem an individual is not a justification of their actions.

11:29 <Cepheid> True.

11:29 <Cepheid> But what they've done, it cannot be undone.

11:30 <RazorSharpFang> Fundamentally, it's about reconciliation. If that's not possible, then every other outcome is worse than what might have been if they could have been reconciled.

11:31 * ConfusionRift sees the trolley coming and sighs. Puts some amphos on the track, and blows it up. "As I said before, if you blow up the problem, then there's no problem to worry about. Everyone's going over a fictional theoretical problem with no gain. And with that, I'm out."

11:31 *** Quits: ConfusionRift (ConfusionRi@Pony-p6q.irn.56.193.IP) (Quit: Recharging the batteries. Laters! *shutdown*)

11:32 <Cepheid> Gonna be honest, I expected myself to be the one who backed out first.

11:33 <Schism> Well, it is about time for 'Rifty to sleep anyway.  But mm.

11:33 <Cepheid> Usually such discussions flip the wrong switch somewhere in my broken brain.

11:33 <RazorSharpFang> Well, perhaps consider this: What do you think someone will do, if they think they're beyond redemption, if they think there's no hope for them?

11:33 <RazorSharpFang> Generally not good things.

11:34 <Cepheid> Again, genocide being one such thing.

11:36 <Cepheid> You asked if there was any action one could perform that would leave them beyond redemption.  I don't think anyone could ever disagree that genocide is one such action.  Though, I suppose supporters of that individual might disagree.

11:38 <Cepheid> Though, one could then argue that eating meat is something that leaves one beyond redemption.  Because we slaughter animals wholesale.

11:39 <RazorSharpFang> Ideally everyone could live together in harmony always everywhere forever with no problems. :3

11:39 <RazorSharpFang> I can dream.

11:39 <Schism> Don't I wish.

11:41 <Cepheid> The problem is that everyone's thoughts are private.  Until they make those thoughts public, there is no way to determine if they are a morally sound person or not.  And even the most polite person in existence might turn out to be a transphobic or racist prick.

11:41 <RazorSharpFang> Would you rather know what everyone thinks all the time, including their thoughts about you?

11:42 <Schism> No panopticon for me, thanks.

11:42 <Cepheid> No.  But then, I never said that either.

11:43 <RazorSharpFang> So far no-one has said yes to that question. Maybe eventually someone will.

11:44 <Cepheid> I only pointed out that until they are made public in some manner, usually of their own volition, that we cannot define someone as a good or bad person.

11:44 <RazorSharpFang> Well, you're presuming that good or bad is /defined/ (how?) - and in what context is this /we/ (who?) ?

11:45 <Cepheid> Subjectively.  And we, as in, the people, but not as a whole.  Individually.

11:46 <RazorSharpFang> Well, it's likely they'll not agree.

11:47 <Cepheid> There does appear to be group consensus regarding right and wrong, good and bad, etc.  That said it is not universal.  But there are some things that are generally considered universal, with those disagreeing being considered the anomalies.

11:48 <Schism> Morality is additionally a largely social construct rather than an inherent one.

11:49 <Cepheid> I wonder about that.

11:49 <RazorSharpFang> There are some interesting theories about the emergence of morality from iterated interactions between agents.

11:49 <Schism> Well, I'm operating under the assumption that a social baseline for morality is derived not from acts which are construed as moral, but rather those which are decried as immoral.

11:50 <Schism> Much like when a code is put forth, it's more often about things that people shouldn't do, rather than things they should.

11:50 <Cepheid> The core example that makes me wonder is cannibalism.  There are exceptions, I admit, but even animals generally don't cannibalize.  And my question there is, why?

11:51 <RazorSharpFang> - /generally don't/ - I know plenty of animals that do, but perhaps you're thinking of mammals and not of arthropods.

11:51 <Schism> Spread of plagues.  If a species is negatively affected by an action taken by subspecies, such as cannibalism, then they are less likely to reproduce.  I imagine that some receptors in the brain would be weeded out over time.

11:54 <Cepheid> RSF, the point of my question is what would lead to a species choosing not to?  For us, it is both a scientific and moral question.  We *KNOW* why it is bad for us.  How did animals that don't do it figure it out?  But Schism provides a satisfactory answer for me, so...

11:55 <RazorSharpFang> That said - I don't think we've even defined morality here, yet alone good or evil.

11:55 * Cepheid digs ever further into the rabbit hole.

11:56 <Cepheid> I think I shall stop here.  Getting tired.  Plus the further I go, the greater the chance of flipping that one small switvch.

11:57 <Schism> I guess we could give it a break, aye.

21:08 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Makenshi: More Pony Music! The Ride Will Never End! [ http://tinyurl.com/yc56643s ]

21:10 * Starlight_Glimmer installs Ubuntu on Ali's computer

21:10 *** Quits: Ali (Ali@Pony-q62cu4.4nua.5fca.1702.2600.IP) (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

21:10 *** TwilightSparkle is now known as Ali

21:10 *** ChanServ sets mode: +qo Ali Ali

21:18 * Ali flops over Starlight_Glimmer and gwumps

21:19 <Starlight_Glimmer> You appear to be ... more unstable than usual? :3

21:21 <Ali> Well when I came back to my PC, the visuals were all screwed up so rebooted

21:21 <Ali> Then my PC disconnects me twice from IRC

21:22 <Starlight_Glimmer> Probably caused by evil sun rays.

21:22 <Starlight_Glimmer> I actually hope your graphics card isn't dying.

21:23 <Starlight_Glimmer> That'd be a bit of an inconvenience.

21:23 <Ali> That would be the last thing I need

21:24 * Lumindia boops Ali and GlimGlam

21:30 * PrincessRainbows hugs Ali so much

21:31 <Cepheid> Morning.

21:37 *** Joins: Andorrac (IceChat9@Pony-jc5l6u.bbcust.telenor.se)

21:48 *** Joins: LibrarianofHope (Librarianof@Pony-k2l.bi7.207.187.IP)

21:49 <LibrarianofHope> Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Darth Ali the Cute?

21:49 * Ali boops LibrarianofHope

21:51 <LibrarianofHope> owo

21:52 * Andorrac feels sad that FiM is over, watched the finale yesterday :/

21:53 <LibrarianofHope> we will always have the memories

21:53 <LibrarianofHope> and reruns owo

21:53 <LibrarianofHope> it was quite a thing

21:53 * Cepheid feeds LibrarianofHope a bunch of amnestics.

21:53 <Andorrac> and Pony Life ;) haven't tried that yet

21:54 * LibrarianofHope baps cepheid with squeaky hammer

21:54 <LibrarianofHope> my sales picked up

21:54 <Andorrac> there's also a lot of Equestria Girls i haven't seen, but never been very interested in that franchise

21:54 <LibrarianofHope> people buy the most random of my items

21:55 <LibrarianofHope> on that note

21:55 <LibrarianofHope> anyone want to read a novel?

21:55 <LibrarianofHope> for every copy of my novel you buy, you get a "call ali cute " ticket

21:56 * Ali ish not cute darn it

21:56 <LibrarianofHope> its just maerketing

21:57 <Andorrac> i'd like a Young Six spin-off series

22:00 <Ali> I wish they lasted longer than two seasons myself

22:01 <Andorrac> yeah

22:01 * Cepheid facepalms at a local news story.

22:02 <Cepheid> A woman called 911 on a black man in a park. Because he was in her way while walking along a path.

22:02 <Ali> Eeyup...tis the world we live in..

22:03 <LibrarianofHope> its rare enough that is "news" at least

22:12 <Cepheid> Yeah.  And the general response has been good.  Police issued an apology immediately for how the incident was handled(they responded based on what the first responder provided, and that was false information from the caller.) and now seek info on the caller so they can place numerous charges on her.

22:20 <LibrarianofHope> its not that people are particularly bad, its that we are nice enough tha crazys really stand out

22:23 <Cepheid> That is...  An interesting way to look at it, yes.  A more positive way than it's been spun.

22:24 <Cepheid> https://i.imgur.com/egmX2Jk.jpg Now this.  This is true patriotism.

22:28 *** Joins: PinkieShy (coolm@Pony-ck81je.67-212-45-net.sccoast.net)

22:29 <PinkieShy> I got selected to test a big brand products apparently..

22:29 <PinkieShy> A little scared though.. If i give my info what if they want me to be in a commercial or something xD

22:30 <PinkieShy> They want to send me a mattress of theirs to try.. (Simmons beautyrest brand)

22:32 * Cepheid flops back in on PC.

22:46 * Cepheid orders a Dell 7390. It's literally recognized as one of the best laptops for Linux users at the moment. Also $400 off.

22:46 <Cepheid> Plus, as my dad works for Dell...

22:46 <Cepheid> No sales there, but..

22:46 <Cepheid> If anything goes wrong with it?  I can actually legitimately request my dad to do the tech work.

22:51 <PinkieShy> I think i will sign up tonight..

22:51 <PinkieShy> Give an opinion for a free mattress from the company directly.. Is hard to argue with.

22:51 <PinkieShy> I need a new one and I was lucky.

22:57 <Cepheid> Heh.

22:57 <Cepheid> Yeah, this new laptop meanwhile is a work laptop.

22:57 <Cepheid> Purely work.

22:58 <Cepheid> My old laptop will be relegated to schoolwork, especially if I go on-campus.

23:02 <PrincessRainbows> Just be honest, they want that over the top praise

23:06 <Cepheid> True, but I like to think there are people working at companies who want legitimate, non yes-man/yes-woman/yes-person feedback.

23:07 <Cepheid> Schism:  I'll be honest, looking at the FFXIV NieR: Automata cross-over armor, especially 2B's armor.  I wish I had the body to wear something like that.

23:08 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Sethisto: Comics: Twist of Faith #7 / Lullaby #107 / New Beginnings #37 / Fly High Scoots #2 / Just a Massage / Student Six #454 [ http://tinyurl.com/y9avwyev ]

23:20 <Andorrac> cool. never tried following any mlp comics.

23:24 <Schism> Cepheid: No kidding.  :S  Sadly, 2B's armour no longer provides butt enhancements.

23:24 <Cepheid> It doesn't need to.

23:24 <Cepheid> The rest of the outfit is more than enough.

23:29 <Schism> Some mood today: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EclrtZKXoAAB-tJ?format=png&name=large

23:32 <Cepheid> Heh.

23:35 <Cepheid> Only complaint about ordering a new laptop.  I have to wait for it to arrive now.

23:35 * Schism listens to thunderstorm.

23:35 <Cepheid> Nice.

23:35 <Cepheid> Yeah, we're supposed to get lots of rain over the next week.

23:35 <Schism> So much better...!

23:36 <Cepheid> https://twitter.com/Viiperfish/status/1281726999397117953

23:37 * Schism grumblycakes about some of her friends being on Excalibur (and, thus, a different data center).

23:37 <Cepheid> Heh.

23:37 <Schism> Cepheid: ... I would rather play that than baseline Animal Crossing.

23:37 * Cepheid updates Unity.

23:37 * Ali flumps over Schism

23:37 <Cepheid> Today's plan, see about figuring out how best to implement setting the nine patches for each tile.

23:38 <Cepheid> Or cell, rather.

23:38 * Schism offers the Ali a ginger ale.

23:38 <Cepheid> Lot of special cases to handle because of how it's done.

23:39 * Schism groans. "Why am I doomscrolling over my lunch break? I just read the worst thing I've seen in, like..." She pauses, checks clock. "Hours."

23:39 <Cepheid> Start with the simplest of cases.  If the cell is open, draw it as open.  If the cell is closed, draw it as closed.

23:41 <Cepheid> Only problem I have with my PC downstairs...

23:41 <Cepheid> Spotty wifi.

23:41 <Cepheid> I really need to pick up one of those mesh network wireless systems.

23:42 <Schism> I don't currently have an avatar showing any teeth.  I'm tempted to see if I can abuse GPose to get Creh to grin like Hildibrand Manderville.

23:42 <Cepheid> Heh.

23:42 <Cepheid> I need to work on my own OC.

23:43 <Cepheid> I already have some details in mind.

23:43 <Schism> Also temtped to see if I can get Snapai to draw my OC with teef.

23:43 <Schism> tempted*

23:43 <Schism> Well, fursona.  Same diff.

23:43 * Ali misses Snapai a bit. Wonders how they're doing.

23:43 <Cepheid> They're doing fine.

23:44 <Cepheid> Being very political on Twitter.

23:44 <Cepheid> Want me to pass on that you miss them?

23:49 <Ali> Nah its fine, just that name sounded familiar

23:49 <Ali> There's a lot of nicks that used to be here that aren't anymore.  Just having to get used to losing touch with people.

23:49 <Ali> Don't think i talked much with them, its been years since I've seen that nick

23:50 <Ali> !seen Snapai

23:50 <DerpyBot> Ali: The last time I saw Snapai was 2018-10-09 18:17:32 UTC

23:50 <Schism> That's not right at all.  ... I think?

23:51 <Cepheid> No, that isn't.

23:51 <Schism> I know we've seen the snapdragon on here since then.

23:51 <Cepheid> I saw him a few months ago.

23:51 <Ali> Derpy only looks at this channel as far as I know

23:51 <Cepheid> I mean I saw him in this channel a few months ago.

23:53 * Schism dies. And then revives, looks at this post, and dies again. "Oh, well done." https://twitter.com/VanComrade/status/1281332986386853888

23:54 <Cepheid> Heh.

23:54 *** Joins: Pony|26103 (Pony26103@Pony-i454b4.cable.virginm.net)

23:55 <Schism> Sorry, I just can't help but appreciate a dialectic reversal.

23:55 <Cepheid> Moral question.

23:56 <Cepheid> Am I wrong for wanting to treat individuals as less than human, in response to said individuals treating others as less than human for various invalid reasons? (That is, racism, sexism, 'phobic' behaviours, and so on.)

23:57 <Schism> That's hard to really say.  I like to think of it more as "I've heard what you have to say, and I don't think I need to hear any more."

23:57 <Schism> "Now close your mouth, and sit down." /12AngryMen

23:57 <Cepheid> Yeah, putting it in the words I did sounds a bit much, but..

23:57 <Cepheid> If you're unwilling to treat people as people, I want nothing to do with you.  Get out, get away from me, and never speak to me again.

23:58 <Schism> If a person has declared their actions, intentions, and goals, then that's not treating them as less than human.  That's treating them as very human.
