01:13 <Alice> Hum, for the first time, I discerned the correct culprit in a mystery. o3o
01:15 <Alice> Katashiro. Shinto implements used to represent a subject. Basically small figurines with the name of an individual written on them. They can be used for good and for bad, of course. So, in this particular mystery, a person was creating them, cursing them, and causing individuals to come to harm as a result of the curse.
01:15 <Alice> But the key detail here, is that they require the full name of the individual.
01:16 <Alice> In the four episodes of the mystery, only one individual had directly asked two of the inevitable targets their name. Turns out that one individual I noticed was, in fact, the culprit. o3o
01:16 <Alice> And I noticed it simply because she asked explicitly for a name.

01:34 <Alice> Do NOT come back to rescue me. It'd be cheaper to just slingshot something my way every now and then, than to risk several people and a trillion-dollar spacecraft for my sake. There are better things that could be done with all that.

03:36 <Alice> I dunno, Schism, but it weirded me out as it was new to me.
03:37 <Alice> He spent like, 5 minutes pacing around the ottoman, looking around.
03:37 <Schism> Townhouse's haunted.
03:37 * Schism cocks her pistol and stalks towards Alice's place. "Townhouse's haunted."
03:37 <Alice> Screw the pistol.
03:37 * Alice grabs a nuclear warhead. "Only way to be sure."
03:39 <Alice> Sometimes I do wonder if the houses in this neighborhood are haunted, though.
03:39 <Alice> I still recall that night Simba had a seizure years back.
03:39 <Alice> Laying there on the couch, I had gotten home from surgery earlier in the day.
03:39 <Schism> Alice: My song for the day is this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ_ZQkV58Cc
03:40 <Alice> He's on my lap, asleep as usual. Then all of a sudden, he wakes up, looks at the corner behind the couch, and just bolts off upstairs.
03:40 <Schism> That is... worrisome, indeed. o.o;
03:40 <Alice> I'm about to chase after him, my dad tells me to stay downstairs. Apparently, he stopped just short of my bedroom door, fell over, and started having a seizure.
03:41 <Alice> It was likely that whatever triggered the seizure is what caused him to freak out, but still.
03:41 <Alice> Like a prodrome of the seizure.
03:42 <Alice> His brain started doing something, and he either started seeing or hearing things, and it scared the hell out of him, so his first instinct was to run to my bedroom, where he felt safe. Along the way, whatever it was finally kicked in.
03:42 * Schism nods...
03:42 <Alice> Interestingly, that may have actually been what started his dementia.
03:43 <Alice> As it was later than year that he developed dementia and basically went downhill fast.
03:43 <Alice> Man, I miss him. I really do. But, I have Spitfire here most of the time to take care of me now.
03:46 <Alice> Still, this cat is weirding me out.
03:46 <Alice> Besides all the stigma and paranormal association with black cats, when he starts acting all crazy and protective over random stuff..
03:46 <Alice> Far as I can tell, the two biggest things he freaks out about are me using any tech toys, or talking a lot. No, seriously.
03:47 <Alice> He doesn't like it when I talk a lot to someone else.
03:47 <Alice> I started noticing this in the last few months.
03:48 <Alice> I didn't connect the dots until a few weeks ago though, when my sister tried voice chatting with me on the PS4. We were talking a lot on it, and Spitfire just suddenly starts freaking out and going after my arm and wrist as usual.
03:48 <Alice> Then a couple days later, I mentioned it to my mother. We got into a discussion and started talking a lot. Up comes Spitfire, and he just starts going after my wrist again. I didn't even have my tablet, phone or laptop near me.
03:48 <Alice> He's trying to tell me what I can and cannot do.
03:51 <Schism> Or maybe he just loves your arm.
03:52 <Schism> Hum. So there's for year 34.
03:57 <Alice> Happy birthday!
03:57 <Alice> Your gift? Finding out you're a cute girl. :P
04:00 <Schism> That is the high point of the year. Well, the girl bit. Cute, not so much as of *yet*, but hopefully that will come in time.
04:01 <Alice> It'll certainly be easier for you than me. I'm less likely to be cute and more likely to be "TIME FOR SNU-SNU"
04:01 <Alice> That is, amazon body type and ready to beat someone over the head with a big stick.
04:04 <Alice> As for loving my arm, I'm not so sure. I showed the vet a video of his behavior, she said it's not indicative of... other activities.
04:04 <Alice> She actually has no idea what it is.
04:05 <Alice> He basically does two things with my arm.
04:05 <Alice> Well, three, if you count progression.
04:06 <Alice> The basic process is as such: 1) He looks at me or my hand, and sees something that 'bothers' him, to put it simply. 2) He walks around my arm, turns around, facing the direction of my hand relative to him. 3) He climbs onto the base of my forearm, just below the elbow, with his two front paws, and starts kneading. Sometimes with the claws out. Hence all the puncture marks in my photos.
04:07 <Alice> 4) He continues to knead for as long as I'm doing whatever is bothering him. It usually takes a minute or two for him to stop when I stop, though. Like he's waiting to make sure I'm done.
04:08 <Alice> 5) If I continue to do whatever's bothering him, he moves the front paws forward a bit. The hind paws climb onto the arm. Unfortunately, with all of his weight on me now, my flesh kind of "gives" and the hind legs regularly slip off of the arm. The claws are usually out in this case, so I get light scratches from this.
04:09 <Alice> Beyond this, he generally doesn't do much else. He just spends the rest of the time constantly trying to get all four paws on my arm at once, without slipping off, until I either stop doing what's bothering him, or I interfere in some manner.
04:09 <Alice> And it's in that one specific spot, too. He doesn't try spreading the paws out or anything. He tries to get all four of them on one spot on my arm, as close together as possible.
04:09 <Alice> As if he were balancing on top of a post.
04:10 <Alice> Meanwhile, if at any point, I, or anyone else, tries to interrupt him, he gets frustrated. He starts meowing in a way that indicates extreme frustration.
04:11 <Schism> Did... you provide your arm to him as a kitten?
04:12 <Alice> Usually, if you continue to interfere at this point, he'll eventually get off my arm and either run off, or just sit there, looking away from me and whoever interefered. If you stop bugging him at this point, he'll sit around for a minute or two, then start the whole process again.
04:12 <Alice> Not that I can recall.
04:12 <Alice> He was particularly energetic as a kitten. Ran around a lot.
04:12 <Alice> Anyhoo, continuing on..
04:12 <Alice> If I directly interfere, there's usually two reactions.
04:13 <Alice> The frustration above, and he just sits off to the side, sulking and not looking at me for a couple of minutes, or...
04:13 <Alice> He bites down on my wrist. Hard enough to hurt, but not hard enough to draw blood, or cause any long-term markings on my skin. Not even a welt, like what one would get from simply brushing their finger nail up against their skin roughly.
04:14 <Alice> Just teeth marks where he bit, which tend to go away after a minute.
04:14 <Schism> Perhaps he just doesn't grok what his claws do. :S
04:14 <Alice> No redness, swelling, nothing.
04:15 <Alice> I can understand why some people, looking at it, would think it's a sexual thing. It looks kind of like a male mounting a female, and biting at her neck to keep her steady and in place.
04:15 <Alice> But from my perspective, it doesn't look like that. Something about it seems different.
04:15 <Schism> Erm. Channel.
04:15 <Alice> I wasn't sure if that was too much or not.
04:16 <Alice> In any case..
04:16 <Schism> Let's call it at that. Perhaps Spitfire just thinks your arm is to be nommed upon.
04:16 <Alice> The posturing and appearance of the face suggests it's more like a parent cat pinning their child, either because it's misbehaving, or they want to clean/groom it.
04:17 <Alice> Like, he looks irritated. Peeved off.
04:17 <Alice> "Stop moving, I'm trying to do something."
04:17 <Schism> Stop paying attention to something else, arm. >.>
04:17 <Alice> That too.
04:18 <Alice> I suspect he perceives my arm as the body of some sort of weird legless, hairless cat, the wrist joint as the neck, and the hand as the head.
04:19 <Schism> Wear a sock on your arm? :s
04:20 <Alice> And the reason I presume that, is because if you clench your hand into a fist, then with the flexibility and ability to turn it and such, it does kind of resemble the head of a creature. Thus, the wrist, where all the twisting and flexing occurs, looks like the neck of a creature.
04:20 <Alice> The arm itself is basically long, like a torso.
04:23 <Alice> That said, this is the USUAL progression.
04:23 <Schism> There's no guarantee that Spitfire wouldn't then change up. X3
04:23 <Alice> Sometimes, and very, very rarely at that, he just straight up skips all of that and goes straight to biting the wrist and pulling.
04:24 <Alice> Which feels like he's trying to pull me off somewhere, but due to like, the massive difference in, well, mass, it's about as effective as trying to herd cats.
04:27 <Schism> "Okay, what are you trying to do."
04:29 <Alice> Mmm, in these cases, it's less curiosity, and more "No, stop this, now."
04:29 <Alice> Like, there's an imperative or something behind it. A drive.
04:30 <Alice> He just gets up, walks over, bites at my wrist and starts pulling or tugging.
04:30 <Alice> No ifs-ands-or-buts about it. Just straight from 0 to 100.
04:31 <Schism> Alice, have you inspected your cat for a small green octrahedron above his head, a la The Sims?
04:32 <Alice> I've inspected him down to the skin, there isn't even a flea on him.
04:32 <Alice> Lotta dander, though.
04:32 <Alice> For a cat with such a silky coat, he seems to shed a lot of skin.
04:36 <Alice> Truth told, I think he's a little brain damaged. It's not improbable, either.
04:37 <Alice> The mother was found injured and malnourished on the porch of the people who took her in.
04:37 <Alice> I've heard that malnourishment and other problems, such as injuries or worse, can cause problems with the development of the kittens.
04:38 <Alice> Though, most reports I've read about that have usually reported cases of cerebellar hypoplasia. A condition in which the cerebellum doesn't develop properly, resulting in wobbly, jerky movement and stature.
04:45 <Schism> Naybe just a little bit of that... not enough to result in the major physiological symptoms, but enough to cause issues in general.
04:49 <Alice> It's certainly unusual.
04:49 <Alice> My mother did some searching, and she's only been able to find one other person describing similar behavior thus far.
04:50 <Alice> And, like the vet with just the description, people responding thought it was something related to extracurricular activities.
04:50 <Alice> When I showed the same vet a video though, she said she didn't recognize the behaviour. No idea what he was doing.
04:55 * Alice shrugs. "He's a cat though, so I can't really say what's going on in his head."
04:55 <Alice> I swear, one of these days though, he's just going to come up to me and attempt to say an English word or something.

05:35 <Alice> Or not.. Hum.
05:36 <Alice> A week ago, I moved one of the cat litters downstairs to test something with regards to my breathing. Unfortunately, I forgot about Tizzy's... condition. She has a weak bladder because of medicine we feed her for hyperthyroidism.
05:36 <Alice> So, I had to move the litter back upstairs.
05:36 <Alice> Problem is, I walked into the room where I had placed it a week ago, and noticed the floor was sticky.
05:37 <Alice> That said, whatever it is, it's not cat pee. Doesn't have a smell, whatever it was.
05:41 <Ali> Trust me, you'll know cat piss when you smell it.
05:46 <Alice> I'm... not so sure about that. When I stated "unfortunately", I meant that after I had moved the litter downstairs, Tizzy had an accident. My mother noticed it, but neither my dad or I did. Fortunately, having known about her problem, we prepared well in advance for the possibility. It's why I moved the cat litter back to where it was.
05:48 <Ali> I get that
05:48 <Ali> Just stating that you'll know if a cat missed her box by the smell
05:49 <Alice> Heh.
05:50 <Alice> My point is, I didn't notice the smell. Experience has told me that I can only smell it from a relatively close distance. The distance at which it'd likely knock most people out.
05:53 <Ali> Heh, reminds me of another story about a smell, but not cat related

05:54 <Alice> Sheesh.
05:55 <Ali> I mean I worked around the service desk at that time I think. You'd think SOMEONE would complain as well about the smell.
05:55 <Alice> They do, it's likely somewhere along the line, someone either doesn't report it, or the people who are meant to deal with it didn't give a ****.
05:56 <Ali> I thought something crawled into one of the big boxes of pillows, couldn't get out and died
05:56 <Ali> Like it smelled that bad

20:02 * Alice flops. Guh.
20:06 * Alice applies a cooling pack to head.
20:15 <Alice> Each sprite has to be sorted into a bin, based on it's associated texture. I can't simply draw each bin one after the other, as it'll result in improper order of drawing. Either a depth buffer, or something akin to one, is needed.
20:18 <Alice> Man, I wish 3D hardware supported integer depth formats. Would make some of these types of things easier to use.
20:18 <Alice> Ah, wait. It does.
20:18 <Alice> Normalized integer. Values are mapped from 0.0 to 1.0 by normalization.
20:19 <Alice> That actually simplifies things a bit.
20:21 <Alice> Passing the relevant information to the shaders, though... That can be done by using a vertex attribute.
20:25 <Alice> Hum, are point sprites still supported in OpenGL 3.3 and above? It appears they are, but it's ill-advised to use them as they are an implementation-defined heavy feature. That is, their constraints are dependent on the underlying hardware and driver software. So two triangles definitely have to be utilized.
20:27 <Alice> Since a quad is two triangles, that's minimum 4 points(If I use a triangle strip, or indexed individual triangles), or six points(individual triangles, non-indexed.) So set the attribute divisor for the depth value to 4..
20:35 <Alice> For simplicity... Use the six-point variant and divisor of six instead.
20:54 <Alice> With that done, need to implement basic shader loading and linking.

23:24 <Schism> I know that PSO2 is focused on a controller setup, but aaaaa.
23:27 <Alice> What video card do you use?
23:28 <Alice> If your video card supports it, set up a profile for the game to use fast vsync. Software cursors are limited by how fast the screen is redrawn.
23:28 <Schism> Oh, I'm on a 1660 Super. So I'm sure that's possible.
23:28 <Alice> Ah, you can then.
23:29 <Alice> nVidia Control Panel, manage 3D settings, should be a tab to change to a profile mode. Add a new program or select the PSO2 executable from the list, and then set vertical synchronization to "fast"
23:30 <Alice> Basically, the gist of the problem is that software cursors are limited to the screen refresh rate. The alternative is to turn off vsync in nVidia and in the game.
23:30 <Alice> But then you get tearing.
23:30 <Alice> Fast vsync is apparently nVidia's solution to that.
23:30 <Alice> It lets the game run as if it were not using vsync, but ensures that an image is drawn correctly at a vertical synchronization.
23:31 <Alice> The basic gist here being that if you remove the framerate limit, the game will poll the input more frequently, and draw a new image constantly. THe cost of course is increased power usage.
23:31 <Alice> If you have loud fans, they'll kick off.

23:41 <Schism> Alice: I like how the mayor of the city is a Sphinx cat.
23:43 <Alice> I'm not entirely sure how hardware cursors work, but I can intuit their behavior. The core of the problem is that for "snappy" response, you want to draw the final image as close to the vertical blank interval as possible. Drawing the final image *AFTER* the vertical blank interval is generally what's done, though, because there's no way to determine how long it'll take to draw a scene prior to the vertical blank interval, and
23:43 <Alice> you could potentially miss the deadline.
23:43 <Alice> Logic, thus, tells me that there's only one way to make the cursor appear snappy and responsive.
23:45 * Schism nods.
23:45 <Alice> You need some RAM and registers on the GPU, to start. Enough RAM for an image of some depth format, and registers to describe X, Y, and drawing method.
23:45 <Alice> You set up the RAM to contain the image of the cursor.
23:45 <Alice> The registers, meanwhile, can be updated any time there is any sort of input change for the cursor.
23:46 <Alice> During the vertical blank interval, the GPU likely takes this information, overlays the cursor image onto the final image drawn earlier, and then uses *THAT* as the output to the display.
23:46 <Alice> It defers drawing the cursor until just before the image is to be displayed.
23:46 <Alice> In theory, this could work in a software manner, as well.
23:48 <Alice> If you can somehow track when the vertical blank interval is going to occur, you can synchronize your game loop such that a short period before you flip the buffers, you draw the most up-to-date cursor position. A small, low-quality polygon can be rendered to the final image quickly. You don't need a lot of time.
23:48 <Alice> But that level of synchronization's tricky to do. I don't even know how it could be done.
