09:58 <Cepheid> Basically, in 4U, there was an expedition region called the Everwood. It basically consisted of random "areas" taking themes from all the other regions of the game. While not randomized, the Guiding Lands *IS* comprised of areas from every single region of MHWorld.

09:59 <Cepheid> So you have an Ancient Forest section, a Wildspire Wastes section, a Coral Highlands section, etc. Two areas for each.

10:00 <Cepheid> Each region of the Guiding Lands has a set of levels. One for the overall level of the region, which determines what can spawn there. These levels go up and down as you kill monsters from those regions/ignore those regions.
10:01 <Cepheid> Each region also has a mining outcrop and bonepile level. Higher the level, better the rewards you get from the relevant harvesting spot. Eventually it maxes out, and a specialized spot appears somewhere in that region which guarantees one of the rarest items from those kinds of spots.

10:03 <Cepheid> And why would one do this? Because the mining outcrops have a chance of providing steamworks fuel. Anywhere from the 20 fuel up to 500 fuel items. And, when you get to this point? You unlock a "10x" mode for the Steamworks. Instead of 1 item per sequence, you get 10 items, at the cost of using 10 times the fuel. It expedites gathering of steamworks items.
