00:46 <Thelema5> Would a little fermented curd do the trick?

00:46 <SaultSteMarie> what kind of grains do you like

00:46 <Cepheid> The kind used in oatmeal would be good.

00:47 <Cepheid> My stomach is throwing a fit, and oatmeal would help solve the problem.

02:14 <Cepheid> The two of them go back and forth like this, yes.

02:14 <Cepheid> If I pay attention to Spitfire, Tizzy must have attention.  If I pay attention to Tizzy, Spitfire must have attention.

02:22 <Cepheid> Ah, nevermind.  I'll just use good old Google.

02:23 <Heartbreak> I like turtles.

02:23 * Cepheid needed to know of a way to detect if a polygon is convex. Forgot that he can just check if the interior angle of two adjacent lines is less than or equal to Pi.

02:24 <Cepheid> Heartbreak:  Could be worse.  You could like trains.

02:25 * Heartbreak watches a train just breeze by Cepheid.

02:29 <Thelema5> What was it?

02:34 <Cepheid> No idea.

02:34 <Cepheid> It was coming from the outside.  Probably a cat fight.

02:35 <SaultSteMarie> Need to do laundry >:T Not in mood to do laundry >:T

02:37 <Cepheid> Lately, the cats have been acting weird.  Ones indoors and outdoors.

02:37 <Thelema5> SaultSteMarie, are your laundry facilties on site?

02:38 <Cepheid> I suspect it's that time of year when the females are ready to make kittens, so all the cats are more protective of their domain and stuffs.

02:38 <Thelema5> Could be

02:38 <Cepheid> That said, the fact that I hear cats out there fighting and doing... things, suggests that at least one person has a cat that hasn't been fixed.

02:38 <Cepheid> Or rather, at least two people have at least one cat that hasn't been fixed.

02:39 <Thelema5> Pheromones are a hell of a drug

02:41 <Cepheid> Ah, 64-67 days.  So two months, approximately.

02:43 *** Quits: Sombra (Jive@Darkhorse21) (Quit: quit)

02:43 <Thelema5> Seems strange that they would produce kittens in the early fall rather than springtime

02:43 <Cepheid> Honestly, while I like having more cats around, one thing North America does not need is more cats.

02:44 <Cepheid> Most of them end up in shelters, adoption centers, or worse these days.

02:48 * Filly_Nightmares kneads Cepheid's cheeks and purrs. She then sits on Thelema5's neck!

02:49 <Cepheid> You're not a filly, bat or anything of the sort.  You appear to be a cat.

02:50 * Thelema5 squirms and giggles a little

02:50 * Filly_Nightmares licks her own nosie and stares at Cepheid! She floofs up!

02:52 <SaultSteMarie> alright. let's roll back some drivers

02:57 <Cepheid> You're already at post-game?  Geeze, what did you do, play endlessly until you passed out?

02:57 <Cepheid> And I forget what the first post-game boss is.  Miriam, I think?

02:57 <Schism> Yup, that's the bunny... wait, nevermind, Miriam's not a bunny.

02:58 <Schism> But yeah.  Hall of Memories was a pain, but good for grinding en...

02:58 <Cepheid> It's been so long since I played I've actually forgotten the bosses, for the most part.  There's a few I remember quite clearly.

02:58 <Cepheid> Yeah, the Hall of Memories is a nightmare.

02:58 <Cepheid> Probably moreso than the Library.

02:59 <Schism> Think I died... oh, 3 times going through.

03:00 <Cepheid> Strangely, I'm not sure if it was a patch that changed things or not, but I've been finding the bosses easier than usual.

03:00 <Cepheid> I wonder if it's because I've been spaztastically playing Hollow Knight like crazy, where the motions of bosses and enemies are somewhat faster.

03:01 <Cepheid> Ah.

03:01 <Schism> I'm going back to sleep shortly, just going to bop to the store for a few.

03:01 <Cepheid> But yeah, the bosses feel really slow and sluggish, I find.  Rita in particular seemed a lot slower than I remember her being, especially Shadow Rita.

03:02 <Schism> I was going to say that I'm pretty sure they don't ramp up the same way as they did before the implementation of 'alternate rule' mode.  I think that mode will feel much more like classic.

03:02 <Cepheid> Standard is the original method they used though.

03:02 <Cepheid> Alternate is closer to a Metroidvania, in that the bosses have set levels and such.

03:03 <Schism> Oh, huh.  Hm.  Maybe they made the curve a little looser in preparation for the DLC?

03:04 <Cepheid> I dunno.

03:04 <Cepheid> But like I said, I've been playing a game that required much higher reflexes.  Perhaps things just feel sluggish to me because I'm used to expecting fast movements at the moment.

03:04 <Schism> Quite possibly.

03:04 <Schism> Oh, I max-ranked Noah, for the record.

03:05 <Cepheid> Hmm.  The remaining two modes that are blanked out..

03:05 <Cepheid> Are Standard 2, and Alternative 2.  Called Story Mode 2 and Speedrun 2.

03:05 <Cepheid> They scale in regards to story progress rather than item collection progress.

03:06 <Schism> That sounds like it might benefit the player who doesn't wait til chapter 3 to get nearly everyone.

03:07 <Cepheid> Yeah, the more you get early on, the easier it'll be.  Unless clearing a boss counts as story progression.

03:09 <Cepheid> Actually, I seem to have misunderstood the settings.  It's something like this:  Standard is the original game mode.  Alternative is what the devs call "Standard II", where the bosses progress in difficulty as the story progresses.

03:09 <Cepheid> Then there's Standard II, which is Speedrun, and Alternative II, which is a Speedrun of Standard II.

03:09 <Cepheid> So the two remaining options are speedruns.

03:09 <Schism> Ah, that's not bad then.

03:10 <Cepheid> Speedrun skips all story cutscenes, assumes a "yes" choice to all cutscene questions, has a timer, and skips the opening scene.

03:43 <RazorSharpFang> It's pretty chilly here.

03:43 <Cepheid> It's hot and humid here.

03:43 <RazorSharpFang> Got to like, 6 degrees C last night, which was a warm night.

03:43 <Schism> It's winter for you, Fangy.

03:43 <Cepheid> And there's a brewing storm, but i'm guessing there's a front in the way.

03:43 <Schism> Oh yeah, what do you think of your PM's latest brainfart, RSF?

03:44 <Cepheid> Because the radar shows that as the rainy weather approaches the city, it dissipates.  Must be something in the way.

03:44 <RazorSharpFang> Schism: You'll need to be more specific.

03:45 <Schism> His response to people truthfully informing him that the laws of mathematics preclude the easy decryption of messages on applications intended to be secure in the first place.

03:45 <RazorSharpFang> Oh yeah he's an idiot.

03:45 <Schism> Cepheid: You'll like this one, by the way.

03:46 <Cepheid> So he thinks that because it's mathematics, that encryption can be easily broken?

03:46 <Schism> Oh no, Cepheid.

03:46 <Cepheid> Some forms of it can be easily broken, I guess.  Even modern-day computers can bruteforce DES.  Triple DES might be a bit harder, but it's still viable.

03:46 <Schism> He said, and I quote, "Well the laws of Australia prevail in Australia, I can assure you of that. The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia."

03:46 <Cepheid> ...

03:46 <Cepheid> That... I....  That doesn't make any sense to me.

03:46 <Schism> Nor to anyone else.

03:47 <RazorSharpFang> Malcolm Turnbull right?

03:47 <Cepheid> It's like saying the laws of physics don't apply to Australia.

03:47 <Schism> RSF: You are indeed correct sir.

03:47 <Cepheid> So, what, is he planning to rewrite the laws of mathematics then?  Is 2 + 2 really going to equal 5, now?  Is Pi going to be equal to exactly 3?

03:47 <RazorSharpFang> I don't even remember when our PM changed from Tony Abbot to Malcolm.

03:48 <Schism> Comin' up on two years ago, IIRC.

03:48 <RazorSharpFang> There wasn't any real difference between their policies. : /

03:49 <RazorSharpFang> Eh, Liberal party.

03:51 <Schism> http://agirlandherfed.com/img/strip/1-1177.jpg - Does this more or less sum it up?

03:52 <RazorSharpFang> That sounds like how it's been forever.

03:52 <Cepheid> It seems all the countries with sane populaces are dealing with weird leadership right now.  We have an ex-fighter/boxer/??? who's also a pretty boy leading our country, for example.

03:53 <Cepheid> But on the upside, At Least It's Not Trump(TM)

03:53 <Schism> Who is of course the son of a previous PM.

03:53 *** Quits: Thelema5 (Thelema5@is.a.curious.pone) (Connection closed)

03:54 <RazorSharpFang> Dynasties yay

03:54 <Cepheid> Yup.

03:54 <Cepheid> RazorSharpFang:  Dynasties imply that that leadership moves to father to son.  While leadership has done something akin to that, there was a large period in between.  And I don't think the alternatives at the time were any better.  I tried following Canadian politics to me, and much like Australian, American and British politics..

03:55 <Cepheid> It's all talk, all promises, and then not doing anything they said they would.

03:55 <Cepheid> The only thing the prime ministers have actually kept their promises on, are mostly about things they don't want to deal with, or remotely touch because it's controversial.

03:55 <Schism> Pretty much.  Though after a lengthy period of the Stephen Harper government, well.

03:56 <Cepheid> Were it not for Harper, I think Trudeau would have lost.

03:56 <Cepheid> With Harper in power, the other parties became... weird.  That's the best way I can describe it.

03:56 <Cepheid> Coalitions, attempted coups, and constant bickering with a majority party made them all look bad.

03:57 <Cepheid> People just got sick of it, I think, and voted for the lesser of all evils.

03:57 <Cepheid> They voted for a simpleton.

03:58 <RazorSharpFang> Didn't Trudeau say that he wanted to fix something, and then never did?

03:59 <Cepheid> My point.

03:59 <RazorSharpFang> Right, but I can't remember what it was that he wanted to fix.

03:59 <Schism> Yes, though that's hardly a unique sin amongst politicians.  I believe there were some hopes that he might do something with the pipelines...

03:59 <RazorSharpFang> It was something political.

03:59 <RazorSharpFang> Like, maybe voting?

03:59 <RazorSharpFang> Preferential maybe?

03:59 <Cepheid> Changing the electoral system, I think.

03:59 <Cepheid> The way it works.

03:59 <RazorSharpFang> Yeah that was it.

03:59 <Cepheid> Because right now it's a first-across-the-line thing.

04:00 <RazorSharpFang> Did he ever get around to that?

04:00 <Cepheid> We vote, but whomever reaches the line first wins, regardless of how the vote ends up.

04:00 <Cepheid> It effectively makes voting pointless for the Western provinces, because by the time we get there, someone could have been across the line.

04:00 <RazorSharpFang> That sounds messed up

04:06 <Thelema5> Parts of Texas are very nice, I hear

04:06 <Thelema5> Plenty of jobs at least

04:06 <RazorSharpFang> Yeah, California's a pretty good place in Texas.

04:06 <Schism> No, but Texans kinda revel in their stereotypes.  (Some are!  I used to be in the D/FW area.)

04:06 <Cepheid> But besides that, it is pretty close to Texas in nature.

04:06 <Verandure> California might as well be in Texas with how often they cross pollinate.

04:07 <Thelema5> Nevada too

04:07 <Cepheid> Right now, Alberta's biggest problem is the collapse of their economy.

04:07 <Schism> Well, the majority of the Texans I knew, anyway.  And true, Austin is the SF of Texas.

11:12 <Schism> Cepheid: Oh, by the way.  Evidently Hildibrand, in FFXIV 1.0, did manage to get himself propelled bodily towards Dalamud.  Somehow.

11:15 <Cepheid> I am not surprised.

11:15 <Schism> Whether he made it, I have absolutely no idea.

11:17 <Schism> Knowing Hildibrand, he probably singlehandedly broke the seals himself, and the Ascian and Garlamond actions were just a sideshow.

13:37 <Cepheid> Schism:  As a result of the number you chose for me, in my game's storyline, for every 1 second that passes in the real world, 360 seconds pass in the simulated world where much of the story and gameplay takes place.  The number I was looking for was "how many minutes in the real world translate to one year in the simulated world?"

13:37 <Cepheid> Though I think I got the math wrong.

13:38 <Cepheid> Yeah.

13:38 <Cepheid> I did.  It's actually 1 second to 87,600 seconds.

13:38 <Schism> Ah, then 6 is a good amount, I guess.  Though it might be a bit exceptional...

13:39 <Cepheid> The real world is set a few centuries, and the machine running the simulated world is an experimental machine.

17:26 <RazorSharpFang> Tbh, I don't see why they couldn't also have made a spin-off series about the doctor's daughter.

17:26 <RazorSharpFang> That would have had some serious potential there.

17:26 <RazorSharpFang> But nope. All wasted.

17:26 <SunsetShimmer> people keep making their disapproving comments of 'Now we'll have jamie bond, and Indiana Jane' - when absolutely none of that applies here considering the material involved is flexible re: lead character

17:27 <SunsetShimmer> James Bond isn't about to become a woman in his next movie, thats not how this works. :P

17:28 <RazorSharpFang> But a spin-off series about a female James Bond has potential in and of itself.

20:29 <Schism> And I do have fans running, which help.

20:30 <Verandure|workhorse> I'm a fan.

20:30 <FruitNibbler> I am a tad dissapoint in humanity for not building houses insulated enough to not overheat and/or get too cold

20:30 <Verandure|workhorse> That would lead to suffocation.

20:30 <Verandure|workhorse> Or, ironically, overheating or freezing.

20:30 <FruitNibbler> It's not that much more munies to invest into proper insulation yaknow

20:30 <FruitNibbler> But the payoff is YOOGE

20:31 <Schism> These are the same people who tend to build north-facing rooms in SoCal with huge double-paned untinted full glass windows.

20:31 <FruitNibbler> Verandure|workhorse, overheating occurs due to an excessive insolation

20:31 <Bubs> come live in the netherlands. where current building rules enforce walls at least half a meter thick

20:31 <FruitNibbler> House gets cold when it looses too much heat too

20:32 <FruitNibbler> Every human is equivalent to a 100Watt heater, so a perfectly insulated house doesn't even really need to be heated in winter

20:32 <FruitNibbler> Bubs, thickness is not end-all-be-all

20:33 <Bubs> that's half a meter because of insulation

20:33 <FruitNibbler> You can have the best insulation in the world just 1cm thick, but at astronomical costs

20:33 <FruitNibbler> It is called aerogel btw

20:34 <FruitNibbler> Stuff that insulates späceships

20:34 <Bubs> but as Verandure|workhorse already said: a perfectly insulated house leads to suffocation. you need ventilation for fresh air to breath

20:34 <FruitNibbler> Bubs, insulation has nothing to do with ventilation

20:34 <FruitNibbler> That's a separate system

20:35 <Verandure|workhorse> A separate system that causes a fault in the former. =P

20:35 <FruitNibbler> Which can be also outfitted with heat-exchangers to win back up to 50% of the heat

20:35 <FruitNibbler> Verandure|workhorse, nope, not really

20:36 <FruitNibbler> Houses lose much much more heat in winter due to convection, heat bridges and radiation losses

20:36 <FruitNibbler> A vent is not nearly as efficient at heat loss as those

20:36 <Bubs> but it _will_ be a breach in the isolation, however small it may be

20:37 <FruitNibbler> And the first and foremost reason for overheating is poorly planned layering of materials and sun shading

20:38 <FruitNibbler> Bubs, if you will lay a subterranian network of pipes for your ventilation the losses become negligible

20:38 <Bubs> still not perfect isolation

20:38 <Bubs> it's not 100%

20:38 <FruitNibbler> Earth is warmer than the surface in winter, and colder then the surface in summer

20:38 <FruitNibbler> So you pre-heat or pre-cool the air respectively

20:39 <FruitNibbler> And all that without much energy investment

20:39 <Verandure|workhorse> Wait, do they have subterranean ventilation commonly on buildings? I have never heard of this.

20:39 <FruitNibbler> If your house has a 100m chimney than even at no energy investment (convection ventilation) ;3

20:40 <FruitNibbler> Yes, Verandure|workhorse in modern systems you often have a ventilation tunnel that circles the building under ground once to save on AC costs

20:41 <FruitNibbler> Have you seen the vents near the buildings poking out of the ground on some lawn?

21:13 <Thelema5> My only concern for the 13th Doctor is that I'm afraid Jodie Whittaker will play the role too straight and generic in order to keep the character familiar despite being female.  I feel like that would be a loss of a great opportunity to futher expand the character's depth

21:14 <LunaticHell> Well, we also do get a new writer

21:14 <LunaticHell> Peter isn't the only one leaving, ya know?

21:14 <Thelema5> Contrary to most people, I thought Moffet did a fine job

21:14 <Thelema5> *moffat

21:14 <LunaticHell> I was rather please with his work, too.

21:14 <Thelema5> He gets a lot of crap.  Not sure why

21:15 <LunaticHell> But under Moffat a female Doctor would be out of question.

21:15 <LunaticHell> You ask the wrong person about a critical view on Moffat's works.

21:16 <RazorSharpFang> Thelema5: We wouldn't have that problem in the first place if they did my suggestion, this is just like between a rock and a hard place.

21:17 <Thelema5> We'll just have to wait and see.
