00:57 <uni> bleh

00:59 <Schism> I have decided that, to remain firmly on the curl of the anime wave, I shall watch the new and much-lauded anime, A Certain Magical Index.

00:59 * Schism coughs.

01:00 <Schism> And shall also watch Log Horizon.  Because tis good.

01:03 * Schism fast forwards through the next 13 episodes.

01:03 <Schism> (Yes, I know that the series was like that for Reasons - specifically a demand to keep pace with serialized manga releases.)

01:06 <Ali> Have you seen Dragonball Super Schism?

01:12 <Ali> The pacing is better, and not as much screaming

01:12 <Ali> Though the first season is basically a retelling of Reserection F and Battle of the Gods

01:13 <Cepheid> Oh.  New factorio version.

01:14 <Ali> How come Factorio never goes on sale?

01:15 <Cepheid> Likely because it's in development.

01:16 <Ali> FOREVER

01:16 * Filly_Nightmares chews on Ali

01:16 <Cepheid> Less development time than Dwarf Fortress.

01:17 <Ali> DF is free though :P

01:17 <Cepheid> Hell, if I start my current project and work on it, my project will likely take forever, too. >.>

01:26 * Schism peers at A Certain Magical Index. "Ah. The unluckiest person in the world."

01:26 *** Joins: Pinmane (Pinmane@Pony-t9u.g04.197.81.IP)

01:32 *** Quits: Cyan_Spark (scintillae@sparks.only.last.so.long) (Connection closed)

01:34 * Cepheid should probably take a break and do something else.

01:36 <Cepheid> Truth told I kind of want to lay down.  o3o

01:36 <Schism> You could watch anime or something.  XD;

01:38 * Ali flops over Cepheid

01:39 * Cepheid boots up Grim Dawn.

01:39 * Cepheid pets Ali.

01:40 <Schism> I need to finish the main story of Grim Dawn sometime.  That and Path of Exile.

01:40 <Schism> (We can throw out all those Leaguestones from aaaages ago, by the way.)

01:43 <Cepheid> Myself, I need to go through Grim Dawn's expansion.  And yes, I still need to do Path of Exile.

01:45 *** Joins: PinkieShy (Michael@Pony-7elts9.159-117-185-net.sccoast.net)

01:46 <Schism> If you intend to do anything with Path of Exile, I suggest starting the patcher now, as it'll take like a half an hour to do its thing.

01:46 <PinkieShy> hihi

01:46 <PinkieShy> Schism guess what..

01:46 * Schism provides PinkieShy with a boop. "Scootaloo Butt?"

01:46 <PinkieShy> I had to extract my windows 8 key from my laptop

01:46 <PinkieShy> Windows 10 messed up on this machine again so.. I had to do phone activation and i'm on windows 8.1 XD

01:46 <PinkieShy> at least now i can tell if its a issue with just windows itself. :P

01:47 <Schism> Ah... well... at least you're back on 8?  XD;

01:47 <PinkieShy> yes :)

01:47 <PinkieShy> Hopefully it stays working and i don't have to worry about a thing anymore

01:48 <Schism> Fingers crossed!  Also, there are a few cats in A Certain Magical Index, aren't there.

01:48 <Finwe> o3o

01:48 * PinkieShy hugs Schism

01:48 <Finwe> Greetings, everypony.

01:49 <Finwe> Messrs PinkieShy and Schism.

01:49 * Finwe doffs his hat.

01:49 <Cepheid> Not sure what kind of build I'll go for this character.  Last time I punched a god to death, with reasonably high DPS for just a fist alone.  This time?  Dual-weilding nightblade.

01:49 <Cepheid> I'm thinking, hmm...

01:50 <Cepheid> Try to see how high I can get my attack speed.

01:50 <Finwe> AB Cepheid.

01:50 <Finwe> o7

01:50 <Cepheid> Hoi.

01:51 <Cepheid> I solved my problem with overflowing calculations last night.  'Twas a simple solution.  Loses a bit of accuracy, but not enough to matter as it was just for a UI readout and for some basic "Do I do X or Y based on Z?" calculations for AI.

01:52 *** Quits: Princess-Luna (DJPon3IsHer@DJ.Wub.Wub) (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

01:54 <Cepheid> Turns out, you can divide the delta of X and Y between two points, then square the divided deltas, add them together, square root, and then multiply the square root by the divisor used early on to get a rough result.  Works for the excessively large distances I'm dealing with and limited range of data types.

01:57 <Cepheid> Hum.

01:58 *** Joins: Princess-Luna (DJPon3IsHer@Pony-79flsd.as43234.net)

02:18 <Cepheid> Huh, a UI bug in Grim Dawn.

02:18 <Cepheid> The codex log entries don't like the UI scale being set to max.

02:22 <Schism> Hmm.  And that's not in relation to any mods you have installed?

02:22 <Cepheid> Nope.

02:22 <Cepheid> Clean install.

02:22 <Cepheid> It's just for whatever reason, the UI scale causes the codex screen to break.  I'm also running at 4k, so that MIGHT have something to do with it.

02:24 * Filly_Nightmares noms Schism's ears

02:26 *** Joins: Mike_Coltfield (Larscis@colt.in.the.rain)

02:44 * Cepheid repairs the bridge, but goes to the Flood Passage anyways to murder everything there.

02:46 *** Quits: Mike_Coltfield (Larscis@colt.in.the.rain) (Quit: Well, that was unexpected...)

02:46 <Cepheid> Princess-Luna:  Solution to drama:  Thermonuclear Wedgie.

02:46 <Cepheid> So painful everyone just shuts up and starts screaming about how much pain they're in.

02:48 <Saerydoth> thermonuclear wedgie

02:48 <Saerydoth> that sounds like an awesome name for a band

02:51 <Cepheid> Looked outside.  If that cat's coming around, there's no indications in the patio.  Snow hasn't been disturbed.  So I'm gonna assume it's inside.

02:51 <Fn> My fever reached 38.8°C (101,84F) time to take meds before my proteins will be cooked

02:52 <Saerydoth> for me even 37C is a fever

02:52 <Saerydoth> my normal is like 36

02:55 <Cepheid> I think I've developed a problem.  I just consumed some Gravol, and then some melatonin.

02:56 <Schism> Cepheid: Hmm?  Not too bad that?

02:56 *** Quits: Crimson_Ta1l (zeta@batpones.are.for.snuggles) (Connection closed)

02:57 <Cepheid> Mixing sleep medications is generally not a good idea.  But, as of late I've been having trouble sleeping, and I'd like to be up at a reasonable time tomorrow.  So I'll take this now, take a quick shower, then game for a bit until it all hits me like a brick box filled with bricks.

02:58 <Cepheid> Oooh, an epic item.  Mutiny.

02:58 <Schism> Nice.  o3o

02:58 <Schism> Also, I insist upon now thinking of that orange cat as Naranja.

02:59 <Schism> Cepheid: Hmm... yup, Mutiny is the lowest-level Epic Pistol.  Still!

03:00 <Cepheid> Useless to me, though.

03:00 <Cepheid> I'm dual-weilding one-handed swords.

03:00 <Schism> Ah yes.

03:01 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Calpain: Crafts and Custom Compilation #8 [ http://tinyurl.com/y9rrhazr ]

03:02 <Cepheid> Axel the Punchinator is still alive and well, still waiting on that "disable auto-equip weapon" feature though.

03:03 <Cepheid> Last I checked his stats, he was fisting things so hard that even innuendo didn't know how to respond.

03:05 * Schism peers at A Certain Magical Index. "It'd better not take 20 more episodes to reach midnight."

03:06 <Cepheid> Heh.

03:06 <Cepheid> Speaking of Axel, the devs of Grim Dawn are mildly perturbed by his existence.

03:06 <Cepheid> The game was never balanced with punching everything in sight in mind.

03:06 <Schism> I'm sure they consider it kind of hilarious, too, though.  XD;

03:07 <Cepheid> They did, yeah.

03:07 <Cepheid> I mentioned it during one of their streams and they went "What?  Seriously?  This game isn't even balanced for that, there isn't even a fisticuffs class!"

03:08 <Cepheid> I mean technically, yeah, he's not exactly pure melee damage via punching.  He relies on a bunch of passive and aura skills to increase his damage, but I've not used any direct-damage, active skills or weapons.  Though I do have a weapon LunaticHell gave me.

03:08 <Cepheid> It's a giant stone fist on a stick.

03:09 <Schism> Still a punchin' weapon.

03:09 <Schism> But yeah.  XD;

03:40 * PinkieShy licks Schism

03:43 <Cepheid> Ow.  Killed a boss monster 6 levels above me.

03:44 <Schism> Sounds like it took a few potions out of you.

03:44 <Schism> Also, hum.  First six episodes of A Certain Magical Index done.  Sweet arc, sad ending.

03:45 <Saerydoth> melatonin occurs naturally in the body, it's not a bad thing.  The other stuff I don't know about

03:45 <Schism> Gravol is an anti-nausea medication which also has a relaxing effect, and is often used for transporting pets.

03:46 * Saerydoth nods

03:46 <Saerydoth> oh!

03:46 <Cepheid> A few potions, yes.

03:46 <Saerydoth> it's benadryl mixed with a stimulant

03:46 <Saerydoth> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimenhydrinate

03:46 <Cepheid> That said, I'm not sure if the drug in question can easily be overtaken.

03:46 <Cepheid> Because once, I was injected with pure, liquid dimenhydrinate.

03:46 <Saerydoth> it's actually less effective at anti nausea than benadryl is

03:46 <Saerydoth> it just makes you less drowsy due to having a stimulant mixed in

03:47 <Cepheid> I was suffering nausea the likes I'd never wish upon even my own enemies.

03:47 <Saerydoth> is benadryl mixed with this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8-Chlorotheophylline

03:47 <Cepheid> Severe dehydration, somewhere between heat exhaustion and moderate to severe heat stroke.

03:47 <Schism> Evidently you really have to be trying to overdo it in order to get high off dimenhydrinate.

03:48 <Schism> Cepheid: Yeah.  @_@  I've had that before.

03:49 <Cepheid> The dimenhydrinate they gave me wasn't enough to stop the nausea.

03:50 <Saerydoth> try diphenhydramine then

03:51 <Saerydoth> it's stronger, just makes you drowsy

03:52 <RazorSharpFang> Urgh, there's a tiny spinder on the inside of my monitor.

03:53 <RazorSharpFang> What if you tried psilocybin?

03:53 <Cepheid> No idea what that's like.

03:53 <Cepheid> Also, in regards to your monitor issue..

03:53 <RazorSharpFang> It's colloquially known as "shrooms"

03:53 <Cepheid> I have a cat hair on the underside of the glass of my screen.

03:53 <RazorSharpFang> So it's a hallucinogen.

03:54 <Cepheid> Ah.  Shrooms.  No idea, but I've heard stories from a Swedish girl about 'em.

03:55 <RazorSharpFang> For instance, apparently if you take enough of them to induce what's called "a religious experience" people become less afraid of death, even on their deathbed.

03:57 <Cepheid> Dutch people, Swedish people, my own sister, German people, you name it, I've encountered someone.

06:24 <Thelema5> *guess

06:25 <DataByte> I'm in the middle of a winter storm right now - in the worst of the storm cell

06:25 <RazorSharpFang> That looks like a visual-novel

06:25 <DataByte> we're expecting 4-6 inches, and -15 wind chill

06:25 <DataByte> -15F

06:27 <DataByte> What sort of heating system does your house have, Thelema5?

06:29 <PinkieShy> RazorSharpFang the grammar in the story isn't good at all xD

06:29 <PinkieShy> it just called a girl a he then in the next line it said "Eyeless girl"

06:29 <RazorSharpFang> Oh

06:31 <Cepheid> If I went outside, I would start dying from suffocation.

06:32 <Thelema5> DataByte, its an oil burning furnace

06:32 <Thelema5> Burning #2 heating oil

06:32 <PinkieShy> wool blankets are the best :3

06:32 <PinkieShy> they are usually the warmest

06:33 <Thelema5> Electric heated blankets are warmer, PinkieShy XD

06:33 <PinkieShy> I don't trust those xD

06:34 <PinkieShy> Its just the idea of having an eletric powered blanket on you.. :P

06:34 <Thelema5> heh... I use one every night- it so amazing

06:34 <Cepheid> Ours is a gas furnace.  Though, it's not entirely effective because the ductwork goes over the garage, and is poorly insulated.

06:34 <Thelema5> Er, every night in the winter

06:36 <Thelema5> Cepheid, funny how the fuels we need to keep us warm have to be kept warm themselves

06:37 <Cepheid> I find it more ironic that the original builders of this house knew what kind of environment it was in, and thus installed proper heating for it.  But then someone else comes along, takes over the neighbourhood, and installs something that makes a tad less sense for the reason you just stated.

06:37 <Cepheid> Initially this place had electric heating everywhere.  It was ripped out and a natural gas(I think?) furnace put in place.

14:59 <Nuclear> Centrally-planned command economies are superior to market economies..

14:59 <Verandure> Uh huh... Name 1.

15:00 <Nuclear> All of them.

15:00 <Verandure> The EU is the largest economic block on the planet: Market based commercial economy.

15:00 <Nuclear> Everyone that has ever existed from the USSR to the last ones that came in the 1980s.

15:00 <Verandure> The US is the largest single country economy on the planet: Market based commercial economy.

15:00 <Nuclear> Cuba and North Korea work fine.

15:00 <Snapai> The US is not a good example of an economy that works for its people XD

15:01 <Verandure> Not working for 100% of the people isn't the same as not working for the people.

15:01 <Snapai> Working worse for its people on average than many other countries?

15:01 <Snapai> It's a small county-sized area, but I love what the Mondragon Cooperative Corporation has done in Basque...

15:02 <Nuclear> The USSR would be the third or fourth largest economy if it still existed, with a GDP PPP of more than 8 trillion to as much as $17 trillion. (The USA is 19 trillion and Russia is 4 trillion).

15:02 <Snapai> Verandure - of course, when you get to economic systems, then we're not talking about your ability to go to the store and buy something, but rather the havoc that speculating and profiteering on Wall Street is wreaking on the US economy.

15:03 <Verandure> Of course. The USSR would be no different than Russia, today, considering it's a military conquest based economy.

15:03 <Snapai> Dem Socialism typically likes small businesses that have no employees or treat their employees well (which is common when you are working with your employees every day)

15:04 <Nuclear> In the 1980s, before socialism was dismantled by the evil capitalists, the USSR and all the Warsaw Pact countries comprised 9.4% of the world's population, yet produced 28% of all world economic output.

15:04 <Snapai> It's when you get to the scale of business where wealthy buy in, and then sit on their butts while large sections of the population work hard to earn *them* money.

15:04 <Nuclear> Verandure, saying socialism doesn't work in the face of these facts is to be ignorant of reality.

15:04 <Verandure> Saying that socialism works despite every single failed experiment is to be ignorant of reality.

15:05 <Nuclear> It works and the only people who say it doesn't work are people who don't understand it.

15:05 <Verandure> How convenient.

15:05 <Nuclear> LOL, it didn't fail.

15:05 <Nuclear> It was intentionally dismantled.

15:05 <Nuclear> You are ignorant.

15:05 <Verandure> K.

15:05 <Snapai> Verandure, there are plenty of examples where socialistic principles work just fine. You don't have pure capitalism anywhere and you don't have pure socialism anywhere.

15:05 <Verandure> That's correct, Snapai.

15:05 <Snapai> And to insist that the functioning examples of the *principles* working are "not pure enough" is a "no true scotsman" fallacy.

15:07 <Verandure> You're moving the goalposts. The public library system working does not mean that the workers should own the factories.

15:07 <Verandure> They're unrelated.

15:07 <Snapai> ....I believe I pointed to an example of workers owning the factories that has worked for 83000 people.

15:07 <Nuclear> Mondragon is not doing very much to spread, so while I like the way they run things, they should focus more on expansion.

15:08 <Nuclear> It hasn't just worked for 83000 people, it has worked for well over a billion souls in the past century.

15:08 <Snapai> (I mean it got hurt badly by adjacent capitalist systems causing a financial crash, but it survived better than most equivalent companies and industries in the market)

15:09 <Snapai> I was disappointed to find my new Fagor electric pressure cooker purchase didn't support Mondragon. :/ It's still the highest rated one tho, because they built an amazing subcompany before they were forced to sell off the brand.

15:10 <Snapai> Anyways, the most popular form of socialism rising today actually deliberately opposes what could be most criticized of previous forms: the tendency towards centralism; and suggests largely just the grassroots or governmental dismantling of *capital*, while maintaining the consumer market economy.

15:11 <Nuclear> You will not survive without centralism. Do you think the USSR could have won WWII without a centralized economy planned by experts?

15:11 <Nuclear> This quest for decentralization doesn't work in practice.

15:11 <Nuclear> They tried that in Catalonia and they couldn't even fight Franco.

15:12 <Verandure> I would say the UBI is the most promising socialistic idea that has come forth. And it can easily be argued to not be socialism (or capitalism) at all.

15:12 <Nuclear> They got their asses handed to them.

15:12 <Snapai> If someone wants to go into business for themselves, that's *great*. If they want to hire people to work with them, okay. The more people are working with their org and the less they contribute the more their compensation needs to be under scrutiny. At the Fortune 500 level, we need to make sure that it's not a wealthy class living off the efforts of a working class.

15:12 <Nuclear> Snapai, good luck trying to accomplish that with the ever looming threat of big bourgeois capitalists permitting that to happen.

15:13 <Nuclear> You don't seem to realize how violent they get when it comes to maintaining the status quo...

15:13 <Verandure> You can limit it without an actual paradigm shift. A quick peek at Irelands tax structure can show that.

15:13 <Nuclear> You can choose to ignore this, but it's just the dialectical materialist reality.

15:14 <Snapai> Nuclear, it's necessary to establish a culture of participatory democracy, which is why I support small format democracy. It's amazing (a) how hard it is to convince people that democracy is good, and (b) how bad people are at it in a purportedly "democratic" country, tho'

15:14 *** Quits: Pi (pi@Pony-pv2.tiv.200.112.IP) (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

15:15 <Snapai> Part of the problems of the past is that to the average person, working for a large bureaucratic corporation where they have virtually no say in the decisions that affect them, feels no different from working for a large bureaucratic government where they have virtually no say in the decisions that affect them

15:15 <Nuclear> You do realize big business interests are anti-democracy, right? If they weren't, they wouldn't lobby the government to effectively make any form of "democracy" practically nonfunctional.

15:15 <Snapai> Each tends to funnel power to the few and disenfranchise the many.

15:16 <Verandure> It's weird considering, in the US, the people still do have a voice. They've just convinced themselves that it doesn't matter -- 'cause they don't vote on the local level which allows for corruption all the way up.

15:16 <Nuclear> Democracy only exists when you have control over your labor, and that only has existed successfully in primitive societies that predate feudalism, and in modernity with the Marxist-Leninist countries.

15:17 <Nuclear> There is no other option, aside from limited temporary solutions like communes, trade unions, worker cooperatives, and the like.

15:17 *** Joins: Pi (pi@Pony-pv2.tiv.200.112.IP)

15:17 <Nuclear> But just because you have those doesn't mean they can't be bourgeois.

15:17 <Snapai> My dream is where people participate in local democracy frequently - not just elections, but input for local government, and more importantly working in worker cooperatives and buying from consumer cooperatives and participating in the operations of those.

15:17 <Snapai> Because then "I have a say" becomes part of the culture.

15:18 <Nuclear> It's a nice dream to have, but the reaction of capital will always loom over anyone who attempts to shift the status quo.

15:18 <Snapai> In the US, the average *engaged* person exercises their vote maybe 24 hours out of every two years.

15:18 <Verandure> That's being generous.

15:19 <Nuclear> Voter apathy exists in large part in the US, because most people realize voting doesn't work.

15:19 <Nuclear> And they're right.

15:19 <Snapai> That's why I said engaged. I spend a day researching my entire ballot before I go to the voting booth whenever there's an election.

15:19 <Nuclear> Voting doesn't work in bourgeois democracy like what the USA has...

15:19 <Snapai> We're raised in authoritarian schools, and go to authoritarian jobs, we barely see democracy.

15:19 <Nuclear> I knew this from day one.

15:20 <Snapai> I was lucky, I was raised in a democratic church, the concept of committees and meetings is not boring or frightening to me.

15:21 <Nuclear> The closest thing to democracy that the USA had is the ability to recall elected officials at the local and state levels of government, even before their terms are up.

15:21 <Nuclear> That's literally it.

15:21 <Nuclear> Nothing else has any real potential.

15:31 <Verandure> The early fandom really was just an explosion of content.

15:37 <Snapai> yeah before a lot of the creators got driven off or bored.

15:38 <Verandure> I think a lot of 'em just moved on to other things. The music people all shuffled off to FNAF and whatever the thing of the day was as economics dictated.

15:38 <Verandure> The animation people... I didn't really follow. There's still a couple, but their projects are so intensive that it takes years (Like Duo Cartoonist).

15:39 <Snapai> Zedrin got into robots. Tiarawhy is learning Harmony and did some of the highest-profile fan work for Rick and Morty.

15:39 <Verandure> Right, that's another one that a bunch of 'em went to.

15:39 <Snapai> A number of folks went to work with Zach Rich's new studio which afaik has yet to make a single successful thing because they figured out people can't work for free forever.

15:40 * Verandure isn't familiar with Zach Rich, but it sounds like pretty much all of these internet-based studios.

15:42 <Verandure> Of course.

15:43 <Snapai> Then he took down Double Rainboom with a message "watch our new venture, True Tail, from Skynamic Studios!" which pissed a LOT of the community group off because only about half of them were in the new studio and therefore it definitely wasn't "OUR" new project.

15:43 <Verandure> Yeah, I knew he took Rainboom down, but I thought it was for a different reason. Something about not crediting people or something.

15:43 <Snapai> That was taken down thanks to a firmly worded but not quite cease and desist letter from Hasbro, because he wanted to pursue a business relationship with them on his new show which they promptly ignored because it was a brand new studio.

15:44 <Snapai> The new show, for that matter - the idea was that the entire group was going to come up with a new show, and then one day he said "okay this is what me and three other people decided you're all going to do"

15:45 <Verandure> To an extent, that's understandable. You really can't have too many hands in the pot with these things or they become chaotic.

15:45 <Snapai> ....if it hadn't looked like such a cute idea you would have heard a LOT more complaining, but most folks thought it was worth working on.

19:36 * Schism slides a plate of honey-mustard chicken strips over to Cepheid.

19:37 <Cepheid> Tizzy just spontaneously jumped half a foot into the air, made a noise, and started looking around.  She was asleep prior to this.  I'm going to assume something pounced her, or she pounced something in her dream.

19:38 * Cepheid noms chicken strips.

19:38 <Schism> That, or ghosts.  Always a possibility with cats, are ghosts.

19:49 <Cepheid> Indeed.

19:52 * Schism muses over A Certain Magical Index. "Magic and Metascience being diametrically opposed to one another, or at least sideways to one another, that implies Imagine Breaker is a third type of power."

19:53 <Cepheid> Except, it appears that both sides appear to be right about how things work.

19:53 <Cepheid> Magic appears to be a thing that works, as shown by Index.  And the Science/Metascience appears to be correct, given Railgun.

20:00 <Schism> Of course.  But how they work is mutually exclusive, as if one's looking at the world through two different types of filter.

20:36 <Cepheid> Schism, Normal, to us, is what we experience.  Therefore, our definition of normal would be the world we live upon.  Yes, it's crazy.  But Discworld is crazy in a whole different way, in the sense that physics is all messed up, Death is a friendly person who wanders around and talks to people, and luggage has legs.
