00:00 <Cepheid> ADra would actually be an Imperial, since the Imperial involves blades that "charge" so to speak, to deal incredible damage.  This mimics how he fights in MHWorld, using either a Switchaxe, or a Charge Blade, both of which have charging mechanics that unload incredible amounts of damage in single attacks.

00:01 <Cepheid> Schism would be, hmm... He played Monk a lot in FF14.  But then he pretty much leveled all the other classes too, alongside the crafting.  Especially the crafting.

00:01 <Cepheid> Considering that, either Pugilist or Farmer.

00:06 <Cepheid> Let's see, with those configurations, that'd leave...

00:06 <LibrarianofHope> i always wanted to d and d

00:07 <LibrarianofHope> never had the chance

00:07 <Cepheid> SunsetShimmer would be our primary healer, literally shooting people back to health.  The rest would be all items.

00:07 <Cepheid> Schism could revive dead characters as a Farmer, and a Farmer can make better use of items.

00:07 <Cepheid> So...

00:08 <Cepheid> The only character I'm hesitant about is ADra.  Two Imperials could make their devastating attacks that much more reliable, as I could alternate.  But..  Yeah.

00:08 <Cepheid> On the other hand, the entire setup as defined screams "Finish things quick and fast."

00:09 <Cepheid> Drawn-out battles aren't viable.  Two Imperials could quickly make mincemeat of bosses and enemies.

00:09 <BrolightSparkle> We got a lot more druids then I'm used to seeing

00:09 <Cepheid> Heh,

00:09 <LibrarianofHope> could be fun in a forest

00:10 <LibrarianofHope> my best info came from the adventure zone

00:10 <Cepheid> The game I'm playing is part of the Etrian Odyssey series.  The guild name I've used from the start was always "Misfits" because oftentimes, the group would become this horrible amalgamation of classes that have no real synergy, and yet somehow manage to make it work out.

00:10 <Cepheid> The best example of this was EO4, in which I had no real dedicated healer.

00:11 <Cepheid> The team got by through excessive abuse of half-hearted healing skills.

00:11 <BrolightSparkle> I based one of characters on Blithe from Littlest Pet Shop

00:11 <Cepheid> I think I'll try this team.

00:11 <LibrarianofHope> not really familiar with blithe

00:12 <LibrarianofHope> you playing in a serious note or a more comedy style?

00:12 <Cepheid> Me?  Or Brolight?

00:12 <LibrarianofHope> brolight

00:12 <BrolightSparkle> She works at the pet store she can talk to animals and yes serious

00:12 <LibrarianofHope> its a modern setting?

00:13 <Cepheid> I'm making Schism a farmer, but I'm not using the portraits.  No way, no how.  I refuse to have Schism look like he belongs on a field, prodding ground.  Or flattening pancakes or something.

00:18 <Cepheid> Hey ADragonDreaming, I started my squad over in EON.  I made you an Imperial.  You use special "Drive Blades" that can be charged up and prepared for use of unleashing a single, critically painful blast of damage.  I based this on your MHWorld playstyle. :P

00:19 <ADragonDreaming> mowr?

00:19 <ADragonDreaming> hahaha, nice

00:19 <Cepheid> I wanted to go with a more "Misfits" appropriate group.

00:19 <ADragonDreaming> I should build a gunlance at some potin.

00:19 <Cepheid> We have two Imperials on the front line, you and me.  We have a farmer helping with item usage.  Sunset's a gunner who shoots people to heal them.  Librarian's just walking chaos.

00:31 *** Joins: BrolightSparkle (BrolightSpa@Pony-md2n00.tmodns.net)

00:31 <LibrarianofHope> how does heal shotting even work?

00:31 <Cepheid> There's only one way I can think it'd work.

00:32 <ADragonDreaming> Magic.

00:32 <Cepheid> Basically, a needle-tipped bullet.  The bullet itself contains whatever components make healing items work.  Basically, the bullet impacts, and the force from the impact injects a compound into the body.

00:32 <ADragonDreaming> Or nanites.

00:33 <Cepheid> Given the technological level demonstrated, that sounds probable.

00:34 <Cepheid> This entire area of the world the game takes place on was apparently surrounded by an impossibly strong and turbulent storm.  Apparently this is breached by utilizing what appears to be a spaceship-like airship.

00:34 <LibrarianofHope> i like the idea of throwing healing potions at allies

00:34 <Cepheid> The engines certainly aren't propellers, like you see on such airships in other games, or indeed, even in EO4.

00:35 <Cepheid> They're these massive thrust-producing engines.  This is combined with whatever's holding it up, since it's a massive ship that has an entire CITY on it.

00:36 <Cepheid> Gonna have to be careful with this stratum.

00:37 <Cepheid> The devs increased their cruel streak.  I don't see the usual indicators of hidden passages anymore.  Or at least, haven't found any yet to compare.  On top of that, the way they themed the area, side passages blend into the walls almost seamlessly.

00:37 <Cepheid> I've walked past several side passages without realizing it.

00:39 <Cepheid> Atlus, that is CRUEL.

00:40 <Cepheid> Normally, walking into trapped areas, the game gives you a chance to react or, you know, not inspect anything at all.  Not this game.

00:40 <Cepheid> I walked to the end of a passage.  Three characters get splashed with foul-smelling water(?), which causes massive damage.  And the game suggests I either remove all their gear and leave, or move on without removing all their gear.  With no indication of what'll happen.

00:41 <Cepheid> Moving with it equipped causes damage to accrue.

00:43 <Cepheid> We're screwed.

00:44 <ADragonDreaming> reload!

00:44 <Cepheid> Effectively, yeah.

00:44 <Cepheid> Apparently, removing the gear, as expected, is dangerous.  You get attacked by 3 monsters.

00:44 <Cepheid> I'm hesitant to touch it again, but I get the impression the right choice might just be to endure it.

04:20 <Cepheid> Geeze, even finding cards that old is tricky, it seems.

04:21 <ADragonDreaming> It was hand-me-down.

04:21 <Cepheid> Right.

04:24 <Cepheid> That said, if you can't wait until Summer(Or the off-chance I fail to get a job for it), a reasonable choice without busting the bank that's comparable is..

04:24 <Cepheid> Radeon RX 560, on the AMD side.  Aaaaand...

04:26 <Cepheid> GTX 1060.

04:26 <Cepheid> Depends mainly on maker, though.

04:27 <Cepheid> GTX 1050 averages ~$50 cheaper, and is still comparable to the GTX 760.

04:28 <Cepheid> You might get lucky and find a lower-numbered card for around $100, though.

04:28 <ADragonDreaming> mayhap!

04:28 <Cepheid> So long as it's at least a *60 on the GTX side, and *60 on the AMD side.

04:46 <Cepheid> ... Cepheid and Tiamat have a nice last-ditch break ability.

04:47 <Cepheid> Or therabouts.

04:48 <ADragonDreaming> nice

04:54 <Cepheid> Hum.  So shortcuts are denoted by a weird red/white/blue plant hanging down..

04:58 <Cepheid> Really.  A Muscle Fly as the introduction to rare spawns.

04:58 <Cepheid> You couldn't pick something a tad more harmless?

05:04 <Cepheid> Rare spawns are...  Interesting.  High chance of them running.  Every turn they get boosted further and further.  Every turn, they always go first, no matter what.  Basically the benefit of them is quintupling the EXP from the battle.

05:06 <Schism> Ah, the metal slime.

05:07 <Schism> And, I see, then you get Rare Breed FOEs.

05:08 <Cepheid> Yes.

05:08 <Cepheid> Those are possible.

05:09 <Cepheid> Not worth the trouble.  Too much health to take down.  By the time they died, every attack they used would be a guaranteed OHKO.

05:09 <Schism> Heh.  The Moth Lord's glow intensifies!

05:10 <Cepheid> Unless a OHKO attack worked on them with a high rate of success.  Or you had some way to dish out 9999 damage in a few attacks.

05:10 <Cepheid> Atlus learned from EO5.  No skill like what was there exists here.

05:11 * Cyan_Spark varies

05:12 <Cepheid> Closest class would be the Imperial.  Properly set up and with strong gear, they can deal thousands of damage.  Assuming they haven't been nerfed.

05:12 <Cepheid> But even then, it takes 3 to 4 turns to set them up.

05:14 <Cepheid> It was also endgame damage.  Superbosses.

05:18 <Cepheid> It's actually interesting how the series does them.  Most games tack on the superbosses as extras.  The EO series writes them as part of the story.  The first credits roll just means you've solved the core mystery surrounding a legend of story involving the labyrinth.

05:18 <Cepheid> Meanwhile everything beyond that explains the reasoning behind the Labyrinth itself.  With exception to the first game.  That one is explained just before the credits roll.

05:19 <Cepheid> Though it conflicts with the lore of Nexus, technically.

05:19 <Cepheid> ....  Same with 4, now that I think about it.

05:24 <Cepheid> Five is an oddball.  Outside of the number of trees mentioned in Nexus, it appears to have no connection to the world that Nexus takes place in.  So far.

15:55 * Schism also gahs, yawning.

15:56 <Cepheid> Too bad AVX is mostly useless in everyday software.  Software definitely benefits, but you need a recent CPU for it.

15:57 <Cepheid> Okay not that recent.  2011.  I'm thinking AVX2.

16:04 <Cepheid> As for what it is: Take a number of elements, say, 8 32-bit integers.  You want to perform the same operations on them all, perhaps with different operands for each respective integer.  You shove 8 integers into a 256-bit register, then another 8 integers into another register.  You then use one instruction to perform the math operation on all 8 pairs of integers.

16:05 <Cepheid> Why is this a good thing?  It is faster than loading each individual pair of integers into two 32-bit registers and performing the operation.

16:07 <Cepheid> At best, 3 instructions for the AVX case.  At best, 3 * 8 instructions for the non-AVX case.  3 instructions are better than 24.

16:10 <Cepheid> Which means, at best, 3 cycles for an AVX case, and 24 cycles for a non-AVX case.  Very rarely are mathematical operations single-cycle though.  I think Addition and Subtraction are single-cycle.  But multiply, divide, and a few others are not.  Especially when floating-point gets involved.

16:27 <Cepheid> People need to stop relying on Google Translate for confirming their work.

16:28 <RazorSharpFang> GTranslate will oft fail with phrases I know to be correct.

16:28 <Cepheid> There's a reason for it, and that reason is simply "Because people are involved in training it."

16:28 <Cepheid> It probably has an understanding of basic rules for the language.  That is, sentence structure, particles and the like.

16:29 <Cepheid> But everything else, such as words and phrases, are taught to it by the general public.  It uses a database that can be "corrected" in the event that a given word came out mistranslated, according to the user.

16:29 <Cepheid> This allows for a lot of trolling.

16:30 <Cepheid> The other half of the problem is that it cannot pick up context.

16:30 <Cepheid> Context is defined by the senses or prior conversation.

16:31 <Cepheid> It'll only "work well" on very explicit, and strictly formed sentence.  That is, an overly formal, perfectly grammatical, structured sentence.

16:32 <Cepheid> Instead of going 「元気です。」, you'd have to go 「私は元気です。」 for example.

16:35 <Cepheid> Admittedly, this isn't always the case, but it at least guarantees the exact message intended is expressed.

21:26 <ADragonDreaming> 15.200 is what wound up getting installed by the 15.7 installer after I ran it as administrator.

21:27 <Cepheid> The version reported on their website is actually for Catalyst.

21:27 <ADragonDreaming> Also a credit score is an estimation of profitability of a person should an entity lend them money at interest, calculated via arcane and secretive methods by any one of three organizations that aggregate data on a person without that person's permission.

21:27 <Cepheid> According to the DxDiag, your drivers are as up to date as possible for your card.

21:28 <ADragonDreaming> Were I in charge, the credit bureaus would be dismantled.

21:30 <Cepheid> The absolute latest bleeding-edge would be the Crimson Edition 16.2.1 beta drivers.  Released in 2016.  That's the best your card can do.  They appears as 15.300+

21:30 <Cepheid> Outside of trying those, there's only one thing I can think of.

21:31 <ADragonDreaming> ah

21:31 <Cepheid> Well, two things.

21:32 <Cepheid> Disconnect the secondary monitor.  That can potentially cause problems.  Otherwise, run the game in Windowed/Borderless Fullscreen instead of (Exclusive) Fullscreen.

21:32 <Cepheid> Or a combination of both.

21:34 <ADragonDreaming> okay I'll try borderless

21:34 <ADragonDreaming> disconnecting the secondary would be a hassle.

21:35 <Cepheid> You could probably just turn it off and it'd be fine.

21:35 <Cepheid> Anyways, I'm gonna shower.  Back in a bit.

22:15 <ADragonDreaming> I will do that when I'm not playing a different game, because it won't let me while a game is in progress

22:16 <Cepheid> Right.

22:16 <Cepheid> Just saying.

22:18 <Cepheid> Hmm.

22:31 <Cepheid> Huzzah for unexplained crashes!

22:33 <Cepheid> Annoyingly, lost a bit of documentation there..

22:47 <Cepheid> =.=;  OpenGL wiki, you are slightly confusing.

22:47 <ADragonDreaming> only slightly?

22:47 <Cepheid> It's not completely clear on data types accepted by certain GLSL functions.

22:47 <Cepheid> I'm getting complaints about my usage of texelFetch and I don't know why, as it's set up in the proper form.

22:48 <Cepheid> Oh.  Because it expects 3 parameters, not 2.

22:52 <Cepheid> I need a break from this.

22:52 <Cepheid> Time to dive into a deadly dungeon for a bit.

22:53 <Cepheid> I really wish the game would hurry up and fork over ariadne threads already.

22:54 <OctaveSymphony> GPU is also burnt

22:54 <Cepheid> Oof.

22:56 <Cepheid> ADra.  What kind of direction should I send Tiamat in?  There's two basic paths.  One who revels in an overheated state(Meaning that your first attack is more or less going to be something that puts you in overheat), which leads into elemental skills that put you massively into overheat... Ooooorrr...

22:56 <Cepheid> Someone who can cool their drive blade rapidly to ensure repeated special attacks.

22:57 <Cepheid> It's worth noting the elemental path ends in a special attack that is untyped, that nothing can resist.

22:58 <Cepheid> The skill is called Accel Drive.  It's untyped nature basically makes it absolutely devastating against things resistant to all damage types, which we *WILL* encounter.

22:59 <ADragonDreaming> hmmmm...

22:59 <ADragonDreaming> there's two Imperials, right?

23:00 <Cepheid> Yeah.  I'm going down the cooling path.

23:00 <Cepheid> So basically I'll overheat, then vent the heat, and overheat again.

23:00 <ADragonDreaming> Then send me down the other path

23:00 <Cepheid> I would honestly like someone with an untyped attack later on.

23:00 <Cepheid> Very well.

23:00 <Cepheid> Untyped damage is... It's amazing against physically resistant enemies.

23:00 <Cepheid> And elementally resistant enemies.  And enemies resistant to all forms of damage.

23:01 <Cepheid> Hmm.  Judging from the labeling given on the map, this game uses separated labyrinths.

23:02 <Cepheid> This area, the Eastern Shrine, is labeled as "Labyrinth 1"

23:03 <Cepheid> Okay, that's an interesting skill.

23:03 <Cepheid> Defend always goes first if you use it, as far as I've seen in every other game.  Might be a few exceptions.

23:03 <Cepheid> Sunset has a skill that restores a small amount of HP on the front row every time she defends.
