00:54 <Cepheid> You didn't know?
00:54 <Cepheid> The Earth Crystal powers the Ruins of Ronka.
00:55 <Lumindia> Ronka is the First's ancient civilization akin to Allag
00:56 <Cepheid> Those ruins... I would not be shocked if they became a raid.
00:56 <Cepheid> You know. I've always wondered.
00:57 <Lumindia> they're not
00:57 <Lumindia> they're actually the focus of the level 75 dungeon
00:58 <Lumindia> we may revisit them in a future patch, though
00:58 <Cepheid> Why is it there is only ever one ancient civilisation? Surely these civilisations had enemies, allies. Where are they? Given human nature, I can't see all ancient civilisations banding together under one flag. Too many different ideals.

01:11 <Schism> Well, there were plenty of ancient civilizations back in FFXIV lore, on the Source. You have the Allagan Empire, of course, but you also had Mhach, Nym, and somewhat more recently, Baldesia.
01:12 <Schism> A goodly number of pre-Flood civilizations existed on the First, some more ancient than others, but like 99% of the planet is covered in Light aether.
01:12 <Schism> Right, there was Mhach, Nym, Amdapor as well... civilizations which were constantly at war.
01:15 <Cepheid> right right. i forgot about those.
01:15 <Cepheid> Then I guess FFXIV averts that trope.
01:16 <Cepheid> I think tomorrow I shall play FFXIV. Remind me to sedate myself first though.

09:45 <Cepheid> ConfusionRift: First turn, boss uses a total-party-wipe skill. Only one way to counter it. Loses all it's limbs when it does so. After that turn, each turn it regenerates one(or sometimes two) limbs, and if it regenerates all the limbs, uses the total-party-wipe skill.
09:50 <Schism> Aren't there a few ways to counter it, like A. stunning a limb, B. destroying a limb, or C. using full aegis or whatever it is?
09:50 <Cepheid> Ah yeah.
09:50 <Cepheid> Full Aegis, stunning a limb(Good luuuuck), Paralysis, anything that causes a lost turn, really. Even destroying a part.
09:50 <ConfusionRift> I love party wiping skills!!!
09:51 <ConfusionRift> It ze best!
09:51 <Cepheid> Stunning is a risky proposition unless you have multiple sources of it. You're better off focusing on a single part with all your highest-damage skills and destroying one part.
09:52 <ConfusionRift> I'm sure this would be the kind of boss that would be really irritating to me.
09:52 <Cepheid> Most end-game bosses of the Etrian Odyssey series are.
09:52 <Cepheid> The annoying factor is that some of the story relies on killing them.
09:56 <Cepheid> In any case, the setup this time is basically to just blast the boss repeatedly with as many group-wide attacks as possible, continually destroying parts.
09:57 <Cepheid> If there's a part that needs to die *RIGHT NOW*, the two mages will fire off a focus-chanted spell at the target.
09:58 <Ali> Odd Cepheid, I'm getting a no path error to my iron mine
09:58 <Ali> It can travel from it, but not back to it
09:58 <Ali> So I'm guessing there's a light error that I made somewhere?
09:58 <Cepheid> Check your return path to make sure there's no breaks anywhere, or at the junctions.
09:58 <Cepheid> And that your lights are correct, yes.
09:59 <ConfusionRift> That should do, or at least have most parts damaged. Making it easier to take down parts even as one loses party members.
10:00 <Ali> Or how about a lack of one?
10:03 <Cepheid> That'd do it.
10:03 <ConfusionRift> ...whoops?
10:04 <Cepheid> But yeah, ConfusionRift. The big issue here is simply that I need to deal damage to too many parts. Last attempt was going so-so. I managed to survive up to 30 turns, but the damage output against the core was so low that it'd have taken another 90 turns at the current rate of damage to kill it.
10:04 <Cepheid> All the attacks used against the boss have to be all-targeting attacks.
10:09 <Cepheid> Of course, it'd help if the danged boss wouldn't regenerate THREE PARTS IN ONE TURN.

10:17 <ConfusionRift> That's the thing that bothers me with RPGs. There are times this sort of thing happens, and you're unsure if it's bad luck, or the game just doesn't want you to progress.
10:18 <Ali> Sorry I always goof that spelling up
10:18 <Cepheid> I think what's happening is that the boss is getting a double-move due to initiative.
10:18 <Cepheid> That is, it gets a move at the end of the turn, but then gets a move at the start of the next turn as well because it's too fast.
10:19 <ConfusionRift> Of course. -_-

10:30 <Cepheid> Every part on it's body follows a set sequence.

10:37 <Cepheid> However!

10:38 <Cepheid> All I need at this point is to go out and collect the materials needed for the best TP restoratives out there.
10:38 <Cepheid> A whole truckload of 'em.
10:38 <Cepheid> Bring about 30-40 of them(I had ~10 in total), and it just becomes a war of attrition. Who runs out of resources first?
10:39 <ConfusionRift> Bosses rarely do. -_-
10:39 <Cepheid> Given how many parts this thing has regenerated, and that bosses don't actually have any sort of TP counter..
10:40 <Cepheid> Well, monsters in general.
10:40 <Cepheid> Point is, the only resource they can run out of is HP.
10:40 <Cepheid> Looks like I managed a total of...
10:41 <Cepheid> ~100% of it's health in damage. You'd think this would mean it's dead, except it has one body part that can heal it for 10% of it's health.
10:41 <Cepheid> And it did that twice, so I've dealt enough damage to kill the boss, roughly.
10:42 <Cepheid> That said, I'm happy. This means I found a build that legitimately works.
10:42 <Cepheid> Wonder if there's a front-line class that has an attack-all skill that I can put in the place of Fran.

10:45 <Cepheid> There's a group of 3 stardust on the first "floor" of the bridge.
10:46 <Cepheid> I quoted "floor" because of limitations of the game.
10:46 <Cepheid> The Empyreal Bridge is actually one long map, spread out across multiple, implied vertical floors.
10:46 <Cepheid> Being a bridge and all.
10:48 <Cepheid> And there's an instant-death skill that can be applied that doesn't do damage.
10:48 <Cepheid> So the Stardust can just be encountered, then weathered as instant-death is applied until it hits.
10:49 <Cepheid> Alternatively, I collect up some Formaldehydes, and just use them on the same turn that a spell that kills them all in one shot is used.
10:49 <ConfusionRift> Throw asbestos at it!!!
10:49 <ConfusionRift> :P
10:50 <Cepheid> Formaldehyde. Need that rare drop that has very specific conditions? Use a formaldehyde on the turn the monster dies.
10:50 <Cepheid> Gives you all of it's drops.
10:50 <Cepheid> Works on any enemy, with any condition. Even the Hippogryph with it's "Kill on the first turn" condition.
10:50 <Cepheid> Seriously, that's it's condition for the rare drop.
10:53 <ConfusionRift> ....huh.
10:54 <ConfusionRift> But I'm guessing formaldehyde is pretty hard to come by.
10:54 <Cepheid> Sorta.
10:55 <Cepheid> In the first few games, I don't know if there's a drop that results in it, since I haven't played the original first three games that far(I really should finish them before Nexus as well)
10:55 <Cepheid> But EO4, EO Untold 1, and EO5, all have an enemy in the final stratum/dungeon that has a rare drop that can be made into Formaldehyde.
10:56 <Cepheid> More often than not, there is considerable risk involved on the grounds that it's the final stratum/dungeon.
10:56 <Cepheid> I believe in EO4, it was a FOE(Superpowered enemy. Not a boss. More like a miniboss.) that dropped the item.
10:56 <Cepheid> In EO5, it's a regular enemy. But it's often paired with another enemy that makes it risky to kill.
10:57 <Cepheid> In Untold... I don't recall, honestly.
10:57 <Cepheid> That said, I can probably forgo dealing with Etrian Odyssey 1 because of Untold.
10:57 <Cepheid> Untold is a remake of Etrian Odyssey 1, with a retcon.
10:57 <Cepheid> Though that retcon is more an effect of a better translation.
10:58 <Cepheid> Same goes for Etrian Odyssey 2, as Untold 2 exists, and I own it, and presumably it too has a retcon.
10:58 <Cepheid> Etrian Odyssey 3, suspiciously, is the *ONLY* game of the original series not to get a remake, despite it apparently being the musician's favourite game.
10:59 <Cepheid> Based on the OST, Etrian Odyssey Nexus has at least two stratums from Etrian Odyssey 3, and remixes numerous battle/boss tracks from it.
10:59 <Cepheid> Plus every game since it has had some remix of a track in that game.
10:59 <Cepheid> Usually End of the Raging Waves or Hoist the Sword with Pride in the Heart.
11:00 <Cepheid> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14U64jWO85s Original, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brPskDEr7CU EON's remix Hoist the Sword with Pride in the Heart.
11:01 <Cepheid> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEsgRhIhHf8 Original, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw6Wc3VzNzE EO4, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-vu538_4Po EO5. Nexus reuses EO5's version.
11:01 <Cepheid> End of the Raging Waves.
11:01 <Cepheid> Meanwhile, Nexus remixes a lot of tracks from previous games on the ground that it's original subtitle name is Cross. AKA: Crossover.
11:02 <Cepheid> It somehow links every game in the series together.
11:02 <Cepheid> Despite the improbability of this in some cases.
11:03 <Cepheid> Schism, thoughts. What do you think is the chance that I would have to fight each and every single true final boss from every Etrian Odyssey game ever in Etrian Odyssey Nexus?
11:04 <Cepheid> Amazingly, there's only one Etrian Odyssey game that we have not seen over here in the West. I have no idea why, and it's technically referenced in Nexus's opening.
11:04 <Cepheid> Etrian Odyssey Mystery Dungeon 2. It was never released in the West, so it creates a bit of an issue for unaware folks when it comes to Nexus's opening.
11:05 <Cepheid> The opening speaks of seven Yggdrasil trees. Etrian Odyssey 1 through 5 account for 5. Etrian Odyssey Mystery Dungeon accounts for +1, and Mystery Dungeon 2, for +1. So seven trees, seven games.
11:07 <Cepheid> Anyhow, item harvesting time!
11:08 <Cepheid> Let's see... kill alluring imps while confused.

12:21 <Lumindia> https://i.imgur.com/DmbVwO8.png Scree!
12:21 <Cepheid> Scree indeed.
12:22 <Cepheid> I have this funny idea I want to try out for the early Etrian Odyssey entries.
12:22 <Cepheid> Modding of portraits. If I did it, I'd change one of the portraits to that little serpent.
12:23 <Cepheid> What, if any, abilities does the serpent have, Lumindia?
12:23 <Lumindia> .it's a minion
12:23 <Lumindia> it has no abilities
12:24 <Cepheid> Let me rephrase.
12:24 <Cepheid> What is it implied to be able to do, storyline-wise?
12:24 <Finwe> Slithering. A serpent slithers.
12:24 <Lumindia> uhh... it's the guardian of the rak'tika greatwood
12:24 <Lumindia> one of them*
12:24 <Lumindia> that's about all I know
12:25 <Cepheid> So it's never seen in combat then. Ah well.
12:25 <Schism> Heh. It is a tsuchinoko which appears in the Greatwood's time of need, and is supposedly able to predict the future by wiggling like a Surry.
12:25 <Lumindia> it is smol snek
12:25 <Schism> And nah, it's never in combat.
12:26 <Cepheid> Was gonna say. If I could somehow mod it's portrait into a game, I'd also try modding it's class so that it can have appropriate skills and such.
12:27 <Cepheid> Well, it's a snake. Albiet a smol snake. And it has some fierce-looking fangs.
12:27 <Schism> The NPC who repeatedly claims its abilities never seems to be able to demonstrate them to the player's satisfaction, but he's just so sincere about it all that it's hard not to follow along.
12:27 <Cepheid> So binds and bite attacks.
12:28 <Cepheid> Stats-wise...
12:28 <Cepheid> If it can predict the future, as claimed, then it would probably best to implement that as some sort of high-evasion ability. Seeing attacks happening before they do.
12:29 * Lumindia pushes cepheid over, lays on

12:29 <Schism> It also has a penchant for disappearing whenever there might be a hint of danger.
12:29 <Cepheid> How so, Lumindia?
12:30 <Cepheid> Let's see..
12:30 <Cepheid> Max, once-retired Brouni potatomancer. No stat booster skills yet.
12:31 <Cepheid> For comparison sake I'll rest Dreamer.
12:31 <Cepheid> Resting has become trivial. It drops a character 2 levels. Even at level 97, a single run of that EXP quest maxes them back up again.
12:32 <Cepheid> Right then..
12:33 <Finwe> Time to go. See you later, everypony!
12:33 * Finwe flies off.
12:33 <Cepheid> Level 99 Brouni Potatomancer vs Level 99 Celestrian Elemancer. 423 HP/466 TP, 376 HP/477 TP, respectively.
12:34 <Cepheid> Stats... STR/INT/VIT/WIS/AGI/LUC, 92/186/145/180/166/119, 123/172/109/153/115/158, respectively. ...
12:34 <Cepheid> No, that can't be right.
12:35 <Cepheid> Yeah. Dreamer's got 5 less skill points. I don't think he was retired properly.
12:35 <Cepheid> Which means I've been working with a sub-par team.
12:37 <Cepheid> Simple solution. Retire, level up with ~10 quests.
12:39 <Cepheid> So, Schism. I found a team setup that works.
12:39 <Cepheid> I just need resources. I had it down to 20% health.
12:40 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Sethisto: More BronyCon PMV Contest Winners [ http://tinyurl.com/y2eecb6u ]
12:40 <Schism> Knock on wood, then.
12:40 <Cepheid> I farmed some Amrita IIs.
12:40 <Cepheid> I got 30 in stock to buy.
12:41 <Cepheid> So with that, and two Brounis utilizing that double-powered-item effect, I'll be able to manage it. If I can add in a physical all-target-attacker I'll be even better off.
12:41 <Cepheid> Turns out, all-target attackers are the best way to go.
12:41 <Cepheid> So that you're constantly wearing down all the parts.
12:44 <Cepheid> If it wasn't for the fact that such a move is stupidly insane, I'd replace Fran, the front-line attacker, with Mitty, the potatomancer, as an Omnimancer, I could do physical damage with Rockfall(Meteor in all but name) and have the two backliner mages use elemental damage.
12:48 <Schism> Hmmm. This 'home of a god named Bob' looks a teensy bit familiar. http://freefall.purrsia.com/
12:48 <Cepheid> It does, doesn't it?
12:48 <Schism> All it's missing is a talking dog.
12:49 <Cepheid> Heh.
12:49 <Cepheid> Hmm. Dragoons get heavy armor, and a skill, Barrage Wall, as part of their base class. It hits all targets, does bash damage, and reduces attack.
12:49 <Cepheid> That'd make a better choice than a squishy mage for the front row.
12:52 <Cepheid> Okay, *NOW* I can do a proper comparison of stats.
12:54 <Cepheid> At level 99, both retired once, both elemancers: 423/466 HP/TP, 382/505 HP/TP for Brouni and Celestrian elemancers respectively. Stat-wise.. 86/186/145/180/166/119 vs 123/196/109/153/139/158, Brouni and Celestrian, respectively.

This cannot be exceeded via any means, since achieving it requires using a Celestrian, geared with the best equipment money can buy, the best skills for increasing INT, and... Long story short, INT maxes out at 255, and the weapon maxes out at 246.
13:07 <Cepheid> Meanwhile for the front-liner. I'm making a Celestrian Dragoon. Bad combination 'cause of low VIT, but I'll counter that with armor, and abuse the increased TP for firing off Barrage constantly.

13:20 <Cepheid> Closest thing we'd have to a tank is Iman, the Celestrian I'm building. The Dragoon class is the "tank" class of the game, but I'm building them to shoot constantly. So they won't be using the Guard skills to protect the team.
13:20 <Cepheid> I'll deck them out in the best armor I can find, and put Dragon Roar on them.

13:46 <Cepheid> 455 HP, 434 TP, so lots of Barrage uses. 173 VIT, so reasonably high defensive stats.

18:08 <LibrarianofHope> i could use reality shatter, but it might destroy half the world
18:09 <Cepheid> I *WILL* beat this thing. I won't bow to it.
18:09 <LibrarianofHope> if this was an anime you would go super saiyan after that

18:11 <Ali> Its taking so long to revamp it and I hope I can not stress myself out once I get everything working right

18:12 <Cepheid> Okay, those items are completely useless.
18:12 <Ali> I really need the next two tech bottles but just don't have the space at the moment or the resources set up. Running so low on red belts its annoying
18:16 <Schism> Ali: Well, I saw your plans for trains.
18:16 <Schism> But yes... >_O Also, toldja that you can never have too many gears.
18:27 <Cepheid> "Bomb chamber used Elemental Decoy!" Of course it did.
18:32 <LibrarianofHope> sudden bad headache, ouch
18:33 <Ali> Schism, its this one https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/795368055544652979/DCD8C72207B9958EA51934900EDAF677ACF3A8AD/ Not sure if this is the one you're refering to
18:33 * Schism offers LibrarianofHope some bacon.
18:33 <Schism> Ali: Yup, that's the one I meant. o3o;
18:33 <Schism> Those are some nice regular coal fields.
18:33 <Cepheid> Gods, finally a reprieve. I bounded the arms on the danged boss, and it tried to regenerate the swords.
18:34 <Ali> The bugs are a minor annoyance since they can't expand, but its getting tougher to take out the larger bases safely
18:34 <Ali> I need to get up to the fusion reactor and personal laser defense to be able to feel comfortable dealing with those.
18:36 <Cepheid> For the first time, that's the one time I really hoped the TPK would happen.

18:40 <Cepheid> That's two Etrian Odyssey games 100%ed.
18:41 <Cepheid> As in, I found every item, I unlocked every weapon, armour, item, etc. I killed one of every monster. I mapped out the entire game.
18:41 <Cepheid> Which is the conditions for the True Ending.
18:41 * Schism nods, "And completed every (non-DLC) quest, I take it."
18:41 <Cepheid> Yes.
18:42 <Cepheid> Huh, there's a region called the "Bloodwood Forest" in this world.
18:42 <Cepheid> It's doing a pan over the world map up close, so you can see some stuff.
18:43 <Cepheid> Huh.
18:43 <Cepheid> The city is supposed to be called Aeolis.
18:43 <Cepheid> They called it Iolys for some reason at some point, after the map was translated.
18:44 <Schism> Sounds like pretty standard romanization.
18:44 * Schism flips the chewy, smoky, crispy bacon. Bacon bacon bacon.
18:45 <Cepheid> Oh nice, I get a little medal next to the save now.
18:46 <Cepheid> ...
18:46 <Cepheid> Dangit.
18:46 <Cepheid> In order to see the true ending, I have to do a NG+.
18:47 <Cepheid> If you don't kill the boss before a certain point, the true ending becomes locked.
18:47 <Cepheid> ... Mind, at this point, it's moot.
18:47 <Cepheid> I could just as well walk straight to the end.
18:48 <Cepheid> But first, I got some money I need to make. Save up for the ultimate katana.
18:49 <Cepheid> Since I'll need it.
18:50 <Cepheid> Fortunately I found a good money grinding spot.
18:50 <Cepheid> I make 18,800en per kill

19:11 <Cepheid> I've already beaten the true final boss on the hardest difficulty.
19:11 <Cepheid> What more do I have to prove?
19:12 <Schism> Indeed. This is just for sake of completing that ending.
19:12 <Cepheid> And yeah, that weapon.

19:33 <Cepheid> Huh.
19:33 <Cepheid> It turns out basic mode notifies you of secrets if you step next to them, rather than face them.
19:35 <Cepheid> Schism. You want me to pit your character against the first stratum boss on the front row, with no weapon equipped?
19:37 <Schism> Sure, I imagine I can heal whatever it hits me with.
19:38 <Cepheid> You deal about 100 damage per hit.
19:38 <Cepheid> So yeah, you can solo the boss with no weapon equipped.
19:39 * Schism looks at publishers putting microtransactions in their games -- months after release. And not just expansion packs, THOSE are long-accepted.
19:40 <Cepheid> Not shocked.
19:40 <Cepheid> Bah. Game's being a pest about warping around.
19:42 <Cepheid> Basically, even though I got the game mapped out, it won't accept it as such until I've "seen" most of itl.
19:43 <Schism> Ah, the joys of hidden event flags.
19:43 <Schism> I mean, I get why. It stops people from downloading maps online and just copying those into the DS.
19:44 <Schism> Aha. This I'd not seen. The ESRB in 2018 decided to add 'In-Game Purchases' to their warning list on titles.
19:44 <Cepheid> But it couldn't be bothered with retaining the "seen" state in a NG+?
19:44 <Schism> I dunno, man. It really is probably just a set of event flags on the level.
19:44 <Cepheid> It's not.
19:44 <Cepheid> It's about how many tiles have been seen.
19:45 <Schism> Huh. o.o That /is/ annoying then.

I get next turn, cast one spell. Get hit by slam. Followed up with next spell, it keels over.
