18:38 <Cepheid> Split up the image into small tiles of N by M pixels. When a tile is modified, label it as dirty, and at the next render, upload that tile and only that tile, to it's respective location in the texture.
18:39 <Cepheid> The only other alternative is, at upload time, to create a buffer of appropriate size, copy the pixel data to the buffer, and use that buffer. The pros and cons of the approaches are interesting.
18:40 <Cepheid> Pros of the tile approach? Simple. Cons? Slow for editing the image, because certain optimizations can't be employed for certain drawing operations.
18:41 <Cepheid> Pros of the buffer copy appproach? Drawing operations can be optimized. Cons? I have to create a temporary buffer, then do a copy, which will induce a performance hit. I'm not sure how bad of one, though.
