00:00 *** Joins: Crimson_Tail (zeta@batpones.are.for.snuggles)

00:05 * Finwe hats on Ali.

00:06 * Ali squeaks at Finwe

00:06 * Finwe now cannot reach Ali's tail, so noms on Ali's ear instead.

00:07 <Finwe> It's also rather late.

00:07 <Finwe> !lullaby

00:07 * DerpyBot carries Finwe off to bed

00:07 * DerpyBot tucks Finwe in and hums a lullaby

00:07 <Finwe> !shoo

00:07 * DerpyBot sways from side to side, quietly humming "shoo be doo shoo shoo be doo"

00:07 * Finwe falls asleep to the soothing tunes of DerpyBot's lullaby.

00:07 * Cepheid installs ELFX hardcore. Wonders just how bad it'll be.

00:08 <Schism> errrr.  Hardcore?  That's going to be quite the trip.  You should have Magelight.

00:10 <Finwe> Everything's going to be really dark.

00:10 * Schism takes Destruction Mastery with her Breton.

00:10 <Cepheid> Yes.

00:10 <Cepheid> Very dark.

00:11 <Cepheid> Hum, where can I find magelight..?

00:11 <Cepheid> Ah, Farengar has it.

00:11 <Schism> Yeah.

00:12 <Schism> I should reset my mods with Hardcore.  I've run Bleak Falls Barrow enough times that I can genuinely play it by ear.

00:22 <Schism> Aw.  Gonna have to restart one last time.

00:22 <Schism> Though, AFORE I DO...

00:23 <Schism> Cepheid, what was the dragons fix you used?

00:23 <Cepheid> Deadly Dragons

00:23 <Schism> Thank you.  Dragons need to be deadly.  o3o

00:24 <Cepheid> Even at level 7, the first dragon gave me some trouble.

00:26 <Schism> I think instead...

00:26 <Schism> Might use DDCSE.

00:27 <Schism> Less deadly.  More varied.

00:27 <Schism> And I'm _PRETTY_ sure that the dragons are going to be all sorts of fun if I don't cheese the game.

00:28 <Cepheid> ...

00:28 <Cepheid> Dawnguard already?

00:28 <Schism> At least you don't have to worry about the vampires attacking in town now.

00:29 <Cepheid> Uuuuunfortunately...  I want to be attacked by a vampire.

00:29 <Schism> Eh, they're all over.

00:30 <Schism> I'm sure you'll get Sanguinom Whatever from some random mook.

00:32 *** Joins: NitroTheFurry (Nitro@Pony-l42sv5.mi.comcast.net)

00:32 <LibrarianofHope> stealth is the art of the secret bonk

00:33 * LibrarianofHope bonks schism secretly

00:33 <Cepheid> I'm an orc.  I'm geared in heavy armor, and carry a huge axe.  Stealth ain't this character's thing.

00:33 <Schism> Magelight is useful, though.  Fling a light at the wall, then sneak up behind the foe and bonk them that way.

00:34 <Schism> "What's this then?  Hey, --"

00:36 <LibrarianofHope> i reached my mental limit for the day

00:36 <LibrarianofHope> mind went poof

00:42 <Cepheid> I have no idea who that was, but it's moot now, they attacked me and I killed them.  Though, to be honest I did kinda just barge into their home unspoken.

00:43 <Cepheid> He was a necromancer, it seems.

00:45 * Cepheid looks at the sky nearby. "Right, we are leaving NOW, Lydia."

00:47 <Schism> Still amused by how the game completely breaks in 3rd-person view if you try to do the opening.

00:48 <Schism> Also, yes, busty Breton who is... ah, well-armed.  And with red hair.  In case you were wondering.

00:49 <Cepheid> I want a picture.

00:51 <Cepheid> In retrospect, eating something called Deathbell probably wasn't a good idea.  Oh well.

00:58 <Cepheid> Fine, you want to put me through this?  Then let's do this.

01:00 <Cepheid> Bah.

01:01 <Cepheid> I'm gonna have to carry elemental resist potions aren't I?

07:52 <Finwe> ConfusionRift: Oh, so it's actually not difficult?

07:52 <Finwe> I guess incompetent player can make any game appear difficult.

07:55 <Schism> Some of Dunkey's deaths aren't HIS fault...

07:56 <Schism> That end-of-stage platform, though.

07:57 <Finwe> I promise to doff my hat to everypony who makes it on their first try.

07:58 * ConfusionRift sighs. "Yeah, you misunderstood."

07:58 <Schism> "Easy game, easy g--"

08:00 <ConfusionRift> The "illusion of difficulty" is not that the game/stage is easy, and someone just makes it seem difficult. The "illusion of difficulty" is used when a game does NOT adjust difficulty by progression or skill. Instead, it cheaps out by adding absurd numbers of enemies, and changing the rules of the game that were already established, just to kill you.

08:00 * Schism replaces Dunkey's voice with Korone's.

08:04 <ConfusionRift> ...those jumps are disgusting...

08:13 <ConfusionRift> Mah eaaars...

08:21 <Schism> Korone _is_ a tad on the shrill side.

08:22 <ConfusionRift> Wait... where's the part 2/second quest? :P

08:23 <ConfusionRift> Hmm, reminds me. Schism, were you the one who suggested The Beginner's Guide?

08:24 <ConfusionRift> I know someone did.

08:27 <Schism> I probably did suggest that at some point.

08:28 <ConfusionRift> I know if it was the case, it was long ago. Just kept playing the other stuff. Just went through some of the backlog, and that was one of them.

08:31 * Schism nods, and yawns.

08:31 <ConfusionRift> That was... and interesting experience.

09:14 <ConfusionRift> And paid for it in full in the end, but whatever. Did my work, as I could, and clocked out when I was supposed to.

09:14 *** Joins: Heartbreak (Heartbreak@Pony-gja4ce.mn.comcast.net)

09:15 <ConfusionRift> Unlike the other day, which I was so tired I walked my way to work, and suddenly remembered about not picking up my vest and badge when I was already by the gate.

09:15 <Finwe> Oh, you have a uniform?

09:15 <ConfusionRift> Luckily, someone was home to bring them over. Otherwise, would had been more complicated.

09:16 <ConfusionRift> Technically, yes. An associates vest.

09:17 * Schism peers at her badge, which will technically get her into the office, but it's been properly locked by security because she's working from home.

09:17 <ConfusionRift> Back then, we had to work with a navy blue shirt and khakis, aside from wearing the company vest.

09:18 * Finwe has a keycard and personnel card.

09:18 * ConfusionRift can make another badge if needed be, but it just forces him to go in, back at the gate, and then back in.

09:19 <Finwe> The keycard is not good for anything at the moment, though, because all privileges have been revoked due to the pandemic.

09:19 <Cepheid> I gotta stop trying to use sleeping meds to maintain a sleep schedule.  More I try it, the worse things are.

09:20 <Schism> Just regular NyQuil is sometimes of the good.

09:20 <ConfusionRift> I use it to clock in and out, that's it. Oh, and to pick up the sports keys.

09:21 <Cepheid> I can't take nyquil, Schism.

09:21 <ConfusionRift> It no longer works by the TC/MC case, and it's useless elsewhere.

09:21 <Schism> Erfg.

09:21 <Cepheid> The seroquel isn't just a sleep aide, it's a medication for one of my mental issues, so I have to take it, and mixing it with other drugs that cause drowsiness can...

09:21 <Cepheid> It's not a good idea.

09:21 <ConfusionRift> Nope! It causes very nasty instabilities.

09:22 <Cepheid> More it knocks me out for far longer than intended.

09:22 <Cepheid> I've actually had a few nights where I slept for close to 24 hours because of it.

09:23 <ConfusionRift> Which is one of the issues. But it can also cause advert reactions with any mental medications.

09:23 <ConfusionRift> In any case, it's just not a good idea.

09:24 <Cepheid> On the flip side, I'm mostly over that cold I had, I think.

09:24 <Schism> That _is_ definitely a plus.

09:25 <Cepheid> Still gonna take cough syrup for another day or so, though, just to be sure.

09:25 <Schism> "Pure eyes, blue like a glassy bead -- you are always looking at me, and I am always looking at you."  gah, reading TVTropes and stumbled across that puzzle again.  Between that, and the Shakespeare one, I don't imagine how anyone beat Silent Hill 3 on hard mode.

09:25 <ConfusionRift> Dude, I was out cold for like a whole day, I think I was sleepwalking, and I'm pretty sure they said I was convulsing. | "OH GOD!" | But hey. (sniffs) Sinuses are clear and the cold is gone. :P

09:26 <Cepheid> If only my sinuses would clear up.

09:27 * Cepheid has cereal and some sugarfree jello for breakfast.

09:27 <Finwe> Potassium hydroxide should do it.

09:28 <Schism> Dioxygen difluoride might also work.

09:28 <ConfusionRift> "We're gonna Drano those sinuses, baby!"

09:28 <Cepheid> I have no idea what those are.

09:28 <Schism> Potassium hydroxide is better known as caustic potash.  Dioxygen difluoride, meanwhile, is known by the evocative formula of "FOOF".

09:29 <Cepheid> So, both would kill me.

09:29 <Schism> (The former is even better known as 'lye'.)

09:29 <ConfusionRift> As I said, we're Drano'ing those sinuses open. :P

09:30 <Schism> https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2010/02/23/things_i_wont_work_with_dioxygen_difluoride

09:30 <Finwe> FOOF is also its structural formula. o3o

09:32 <Schism> Fluorides which are so unstable that they fail the card test at 100 are all kinds of fun.

09:33 <Schism> (The card test: you get a stack of thin buffers, the cards, and you paint a thin layer of the material underneath them.  Then you test how many cards you can remove before the material goes off when the top card is struck.)

09:34 <Cepheid> Heh.

09:35 <Cepheid> 'Tis cold today.

09:35 <Schism> This was genuinely de rigeur for testing of liquid fuels in the 1940s.

09:35 <Schism> It's going to warm up to +5C there.

09:36 <Cepheid> Nice.

09:37 * ConfusionRift looks at his "not played yet" list, and sees games that have no runtime, but have achievements.

09:37 <Schism> Admittedly, the card gap test is a little more involved, but... https://arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2514/3.4731?journalCode=aiaaj

09:40 <Cepheid> https://twitter.com/coolkyou2/status/1355959849843007490/photo/1 Those stats.

09:41 <ConfusionRift> o_0;

09:41 <ConfusionRift> What... in... the hell?

09:42 <Cepheid> I believe that is Disgaea 6, which upped the numbers a tad.

09:42 <Schism> While I don't recognize the game itself, I know an NIS game when I see it.

09:42 <Schism> Level 9999 was clearly insufficient.

09:42 <Cepheid> That is actually definitely Disgaea 6 with that in mind.

09:44 <Schism> ... um.  https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2005/12/17/how_not_to_do_it_bromine

09:44 <ConfusionRift> "You know... variables don't have to be integers, you know. There are larger variables." | (stand up, stares with eye glowing red) Show me.

09:45 <ConfusionRift> Goodbye, value underflow, mwaaahahaHAAAAA!!!

09:46 <Schism> Disgaea 3 on PC, when?  :<

09:47 * ConfusionRift sees Schism catch fire and explode. "I think that's not happening."

09:47 * Schism parses an HCF expression.

09:47 <Cepheid> That's 64-bit integers, for sure.

09:47 <Cepheid> Let me see..

09:48 <Schism> Still like how in TIS-100, the HCF instruction causes the whole thing to shut down and return to the main menu.

09:48 <ConfusionRift> They could also be parsed to fit on a string for display.

09:48 <Cepheid> That's beyond 64-bit actually.

09:48 <Cepheid> So they're using arbitrary-precision libraries.

09:50 <Cepheid> A signed 64-bit integer, using the same digit separation as the screenshot, has a range of -922,3372,0368,5477,5808 to 922,3372,0368,5477,5807 inclusive.  As you may notice, there's not enough digits to hold the HP and SP values.

09:50 <Cepheid> Even if it's unsigned, the range isn't sufficient.

09:50 <Cepheid> So they're either using arbitrary precision, or some other form of extended integers.

09:50 <ConfusionRift> Well, I'm a bit rusty on the technications of the informatory technolizations, especially in the programmings of applicators.

09:51 <Schism> Techno-liz-ation.  Okay, now I'm imagining a cyborg Godzilla, and it's all your fault.

09:51 <Cepheid> They're using numbers larger than a modern consumer computer can handle.

09:51 <ConfusionRift> Eerm... it already exists. :P

09:51 <Schism> Okay, okay, I KNOW that Toei probably has done every variant of Godzilla imaginable, but still.

09:52 <Cepheid> Or rather, they're using numbers that modern computers lack the precision to hold.

09:52 <Schism> Well... they probably haven't done the polka variant.

09:53 <ConfusionRift> Don't. You're invoking them. :P

09:53 <Cepheid> Since floating-point types can handle much, much larger numbers, but with accuracy limited to something like 7 to 15 or so digits.

09:53 <Schism> Well, if we're talking integers, just add more bits.

09:54 <Schism> I joke, of course.  Gotta have these expressed as floats.

09:54 <ConfusionRift> You can still truncate float points or just parse using other variables of the similar. It'll make it needlessly complex, but it's doable.

09:54 <Cepheid> You can just extend it using a custom-precision library.

09:55 <Schism> Cepheid: Have you read about the history of the HCF instruction?

09:55 <Cepheid> Which is the best way to go about it.  Don't use floats.  There's issues with comparisons there.

09:55 <Cepheid> Yes.

09:55 * ConfusionRift shrugs. "It's slowly but surely going over my head at 1000MPH, hitting my dome and sending me into outer space.

09:56 * Schism looks at the Motorola 6800. It didn't _have_ an HCF opcode, but... "Missingno is older than we thought."

09:56 <Cepheid> Basically the issue with floats is when you try to compare numbers with regards to discrete things.

09:56 <Cepheid> Because you might have two variables, both, which, for all intents and purposes look like they store the number 127.

09:57 <ConfusionRift> Pffft, the concept of Missingno has been out there since the early days of assembly and machine languages.

09:57 <Cepheid> But in reality, one stores 127.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001, and the other stores 127.0000001

09:57 <Cepheid> Now are these two equal?

09:57 <Schism> 256, of course.

09:57 <Cepheid> And then there's the issue with zero.

09:57 <Schism> Oh, /are/ those two equal, not /what/ do they equal.

09:58 <Cepheid> In floating point mathematics on a computer, there's two zeroes.

09:58 <Cepheid> -0, and +0.

09:58 <Cepheid> -0 != +0

09:58 <Schism> Of course, because you need that bit.  For a signed floating number, anyway.

09:58 <Schism> ConfusionRift, well, that's basically this.  You get 256 potential opcodes, and only 197 are valid and written into the system.  So, obviously, there must be 59 opcodes which don't work.

09:59 <Schism> But which can still be called... o3o

09:59 <Cepheid> It's also because the result of some math operation may have resulted in a value like -0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001, but couldn't represent it simply because of overflows.

09:59 <Cepheid> Or underflows.

09:59 <Cepheid> So it just rounds to the nearest representable value, -0.0

09:59 <Schism> And let us not forget that .9999~ == 1.

10:00 <Cepheid> Eeeyup.

10:01 <Cepheid> Point is, floating point mathematics, you want to limit the amount of comparisons you do.

10:01 <Schism> After a certain point, it's quite logical to round off some floating points.

10:01 <Schism> As the old saying goes, if you memorize 20 digits of pi, you can accurately round off the known universe.

10:01 <Cepheid> So, integers...  Fortunately, with Disgaea 6, for the numbers it uses, you'd only need, hmm...  An extra byte?

10:02 <Schism> Probably not even that.

10:02 <Cepheid> Yeah, I'm just rounding it to the next-highest 8-bit number.

10:02 <Cepheid> You'd still need a byte, regardless of how many bits are used.

10:02 <Schism> Of course, I hesitate to be so certain, because that screenshot doesn't show the damage, which can probably best be expressed with e.

10:03 <Cepheid> I estimate at least 3 more bits, if using an unsigned integer.

10:03 <Finwe> To summarise, never buy a house with the strenght calculations done with the original Pentium processor.

10:04 <Finwe> *strength

10:04 <Cepheid> But yeah, accounting for damage exceeding HP?

10:04 <Cepheid> They likely just went ahead and used an arbitrary-precision library, or emulated 128-bit integers.

10:04 <Schism> Heh, or at least not the P5.

10:04 <Schism> Gotta be signed anyway, because how better to define negative damage, e.g. healing?

10:05 <Cepheid> I'm hedging on emulated 128-bit integers, to be honest.  Easier to implement.

10:05 * Schism is in a snarky mood this morning. Also, nods.

10:05 <Cepheid> Though, libraries exist out there for arbitrary precision, so they could have just pulled an off-the-counter setup for it.

10:05 <Finwe> An RPG truth says that it's more bliss to make damage than take damage.

10:05 <Cepheid> It's a strategy RPG, so arbitrary precision would work fine.

10:06 <Schism> Just blame any inconsistencies on the RNG, bam, done.

10:06 <Cepheid> The performance cost would be negligible.

10:06 <Cepheid> If it was an RTS, then yeah, you might notice the use of arbitrary-precision.

10:06 <Finwe> But to take negative damage opposed to make positive damage?

10:06 <Schism> Of course, the really hardcore Disgaea players are kind of consummate number-crunchers...

10:07 <Cepheid> Negative damage usually implies healing.

10:07 <Schism> Finwe: A good offense is the best defense.  o3o

10:07 <Finwe> We'd need some kind of measure to find out which one is more preferable.

10:07 <Finwe> A utility function, maybe.

10:08 * ConfusionRift decides to open Trailmakers.

10:08 <Cepheid> A disgaea-type game is another one of those games that would be easy to re-implement.

10:08 <Schism> Hmm.  At some point I should get a P5 keyfob.

10:08 <Finwe> With only one hp remaining and a fair chance of getting hit in the near future should shift the preference from making damage to taking negative damage.

10:08 <Cepheid> The difficulty comes into play when dealing with the animations for special attacks and the like.

10:08 <Finwe> s/With//

10:08 <ConfusionRift> Huh... seeing this game in 144hz is... quite the change.

10:09 <Cepheid> 144Hz is indeed nice, yes.

10:09 <Cepheid> If your system can handle it.

10:09 <Schism> DOOM in 144Hz is probably not worth the effort.  Probably.

10:09 <Finwe> Radar Rat Race, on the other hoof…

10:09 <Cepheid> Though it is possible.

10:10 <Cepheid> Many source ports implement interpolation.

10:10 <Cepheid> So an FPS above 35 is noticeable, even on DOOM.

10:10 * Schism loads up Nethack at 144 Hz.

10:10 <Cepheid> The remake though?  You can easily get up to 200 FPS or more on it.

10:10 <Finwe> !link https://youtu.be/qwnzsIH_1Uk

10:11 <DerpyBot> I need to ask Twilight about that one.

10:11 <Cepheid> Danged game is optimized to hell and back, and the Vulkan renderer is something else.

10:11 <DerpyBot> Twilight told me this video is about C64 Gamevideo 02 - Radar Rat Race

10:11 <Schism> Oh, the remake is definitely a different matter.

10:11 <Cepheid> 1080p tops out at 200 or so for me.

10:11 <Schism> Well, I mean.  DOOM (2016) isn't really a remake, but still.

10:11 <Cepheid> 2160p is around 100.

10:12 <Schism> Crabcakes.  A coworker of mine has a very nice C64 setup embedded in a mechanical keyboard.  While I was thinking of great C64 games to mention to him, I completely spaced and didn't mention one of my favourites: Demon Stalkers.

10:14 <Schism> Basically, Gauntlet, with a little more exploration and hunting thrown in.

10:14 * Cepheid goes through all their header files in this code to clean up their dependencies.

10:14 <Schism> (And stupid, stupid traps.  Freaking scrolls.)

10:15 <Finwe> Bubble Bobble, Henry's House, International Karate Plus, Space Taxi, …

10:17 * Schism stares at the mention of one chemical. "Bromine fluorine dioxide? Thank you, I think I'll be on another continent."

10:19 <Finwe> Boulder Dash is also one of the more iconic ones.

10:19 <Schism> Oh, of course.

10:19 <Finwe> And Donald Duck's Playground.

10:20 <Schism> Not one with which I'm familiar.  But then, I was raised on an IBM-compatible PC rather than a C64, so I'm more familiar with Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle.

10:21 <Schism> Also, the various games from Broderbund/The Learning Company, so we have things like Think Quick! and Ancient Empires.

10:21 <Finwe> Donald Duck's Playground was the first game by Al Lowe of Sierra Online, I think.

10:22 <Finwe> There was also a C64 version of Frogger published by Sierra, but I don't know whether Lowe participated in writing that one.

10:23 <Schism> There were a few beforehand, but I'll always remember Al Lowe most for the Leisure Suit Larry series, more about which I won't share in a PG channel.

10:24 <Schism> Oh, he was a programmer on Sierra's The Dark Crystal game.

10:27 <Finwe> Wikipædia Britannica tells that he wrote three games on his own prior to being hired by Sierra.

10:28 <Finwe> "Lowe began his career teaching public school music for 15 years. After that time, he decided to teach himself programming and in 1982 he created three games for the Apple II: Dragon's Keep, Bop-A-Bet, and Troll's Tale."

10:28 <Finwe> Sierra Entertainment also bought rights to those three.

10:30 <Schism> Oh gods.

10:30 <Schism> I just searched for Bromyl Fluoride on a whim.  The first paper, from 1977, describes its reactivity to bromosyl trifluoride.

10:34 <Schism> At which point I'm already a dust cloud and a speck on the horizon.

10:38 <Cepheid> Oh, today's Capcom event for Rise starts early.  6 PM.

10:38 <Cepheid> Er, 6 AM.

10:39 <Schism> Bromine pentafloride?!

10:39 <Cepheid> Oh, ConfusionRift.

10:39 <ConfusionRift> Hmm?

10:39 <Cepheid> A new monster was revealed for inclusion in Rise.  It's a Title Update monster, so won't arrive until April, buuuuuuuutttt...

10:39 <Cepheid> It's Chameleos.  o3o

10:40 <ConfusionRift> Hah! Hidey thief lizard is back. :P

10:40 <Cepheid> Also, on the 11th we're getting an updated demo.

10:40 <Cepheid> It'll include the flagship monster for a fight.

10:43 <Schism> By then I should have that Switch.  o3o;

10:44 <Cepheid> Heh.

10:44 * Cepheid examines her old code.

10:44 <Cepheid> I really shouldn't be using OpenGL 4.1.

10:45 <Cepheid> Shaders are a gods danged pain in the arse, to be honest.

10:45 <Cepheid> Load and compile the shader source.  Create a shader program.  Attach the compiled shader sources to the shader program.  Link the shader program.

10:45 <Finwe> Take them out thence, then.

10:48 <Cepheid> The trouble I have is, hilariously, related to the resource management aspect.  I have a resource manager which is used for loading resources of all types, but for a complete shader program, I need multiple files.

10:49 <Cepheid> This is one area where HLSL wins.  It can use a single file for all shader code for all stages.

10:50 <Cepheid> OpenGL cannot handle this.  Not without some heavy lifting handled by the developer.

10:53 <Schism> In what universe is bromine pentafluoride, mixed with hydrazine, even considered a viable fuel?

10:54 <Schism> This one, evidently... http://www.astronautix.com/b/brf5hydrazine.html

10:57 * ConfusionRift is getting a bit itchy about getting to MH:R, but heh, maybe he'll do better.

10:57 <Schism> At least in MH:R you can pet the dog.

10:58 <Finwe> How about dotting the peg?

11:52 <Cepheid> That's a Testucabra.

12:15 <ConfusionRift> Oh, sorry. *aggressively fall on the ground*

12:15 <ConfusionRift> :P

12:17 <Golden> I have gotten the Exdeath Minion on FFXIV.

12:22 <Cepheid> So, the Rampage appears to be a sort of tower defense.,

12:22 <Schism> @Golden: Good luck getting the Bartz minion, tho.  o3o

12:22 <ConfusionRift> Tower defense... huh.

12:23 * Schism may have fought Lewena and Gilgamesh LOTS of times for that one.

12:23 <Cepheid> Yeah, a tower defense with standard hunting.

12:23 <Schism> ( Lewena is the untagged NPC in the Gold Saucer who plays 5* cards ALL THE TIME and can only beaten with a bit of luck. )

12:24 <Schism> (If you have the right 1* cards, though...)

12:24 <ConfusionRift> Because I thought it looked more like the whole Zorah Magdaros quest, as in defense in stages.

12:25 <ConfusionRift> Also, I swear that area looks familiar.

12:25 <Cepheid> It's basically waves of monsters.  You set up cannons, ballistae, some of which are manned, others which you can use, etc.

12:26 <Cepheid> And work to stop them from breaking through barriers.

12:26 <Cepheid> 51 monsters total in this particular instance.

12:26 <ConfusionRift> The hell?!

12:27 <Schism> 51, split amongst 4 players?  That's doable.

12:27 <Cepheid> It's split up into waves, too.

12:27 <ConfusionRift> Also, sounds like the Lao Shun fight, but you have to set the defenses. The whole wave thing. Hmmm.

12:28 <Cepheid> Oh, those numbers on the side are equipment, not monsters hunted.

12:28 <ConfusionRift> Was gonna say.

12:29 <ConfusionRift> Otherwise, that one thing is gonna be the whole game.

12:29 <Cepheid> Oh, it's one of the requirements for the quest, to place 20 turrets.

12:29 <Lumindia> ...

12:29 <Lumindia> Schism, isn't the bartz minion a collector's item bonus or something?

12:29 <Lumindia> or some kind of bonus from something or other?

12:30 <Golden> Schism the wind-up Bartz minion is a collectors edition item for stormblood

12:30 <Lumindia> yep, as I thought

12:31 <Schism> Oh, so it is.  Sorry!

12:31 <Schism> I might have been thinking of one of the other ones Lewena provides.

12:31 <ConfusionRift> Exactly, good luck getting that. :P

12:31 <Schism> Oh, the digital editions are available on the Mogstation.

12:31 <Cepheid> Thus far, they've killed something like 15 or so monsters.

12:32 <ConfusionRift> Guessing mostly fodder for a while.

12:32 <Schism> Oh right, Lewena's cards are Onion Knight, Bartz, and Terra.  The CARD, I was right about.

12:33 <Cepheid> It's multiple monsters, so they aren't super-strong health-wise.

12:52 <Golden> I just finished Stormblood.

12:52 <Schism> Yes, but Hildibrand stuff is optional.

12:53 <Schism> There's some in ARR, some in Heavensward, and some in Stormblood.  They're all marked with the blue + sign, and they're all REALLY worth playing.

12:53 <Schism> If only because they have some of the most enjoyable stories in the whole game.

12:54 <Schism> Of course, your mileage may vary.  I think Cepheid hates them.  :p

12:54 <Golden> No I haven't done those quests. Don't even know where to find him.

12:54 <Golden> If they are for a game of triple triad I'll most likely pass.
