00:04 <Cepheid> Interestingly, the best fit formula is inaccurate.

00:04 <Cepheid> Not by much, though.

00:04 <Cepheid> Given the current formula, it estimates at level 99, a hoplite will have 94 VIT.

00:05 <Cepheid> According to the wiki, at level 99, a hoplite has 89 VIT.

00:05 <Cepheid> A +/- 6% error margin.

00:09 * Ali nibbles on Schism, she actually got a 7-2 on Arena

00:09 <Cepheid> Hum.

00:17 <Cepheid> There's no apparent patterns I can see.

00:18 <Cepheid> That said, I can calculate some basic bits.

00:23 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Sethisto: Drawfriend Stuff (Pony Art Gallery) #3163 [ http://tinyurl.com/vska9h3 ]

00:23 <Cepheid> ...

00:23 <Cepheid> Gee, thanks LibreOffice.

00:29 <Cepheid> Using a best fit line, Dreamer should have... 293 defense with the Dampener Armor equipped.  Actual value is 278, for an error of ~6%

00:29 <Cepheid> Stats is fun when you know how to use it, and have a use for it.

00:32 <Cepheid> Interestingly, the formula seems to apply to all classes.

00:33 <Cepheid> Math indicates that Ali, a Zodiac(Squishy mage), at 38 VIT, equipping a +7 DEF armor, should get +10 DEF from it.  I equipped the armor, and indeed, she gets +10 DEF from it.

00:34 * Schism passes Cepheid a small glass of Fireball. Also, blinks. o3o;

00:36 * Ali is of course squishy, she's a filthy unicorn after all

00:36 <PrincessRainbows> :(

00:36 <PrincessRainbows> Ali is a pretty pony

00:37 <Schism> And most assuredly not cute at all.  </sarcasm>

00:38 <Schism> So, during the weeks surrounding American Thanksgiving, I am working two 7-day weeks, with a mere weekend in the middle.  Many 10-hour days.

00:38 <Cepheid> Schism:  I'm doing some mathematics to figure something out.  Apparently, in EO3, higher VIT results in a greater "boost" in the defensive value of armor.

00:38 <Schism> So it's multiplicative then.  o3o

00:39 <Schism> I love a good multiplicative buff.

00:41 * Schism notes to Ali, "Now, I don't want to cause any undue panic." Then he stops talking.

00:41 * Ali flails at Schism

00:42 <Schism> !link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYAlB1Kxayc

00:42 <DerpyBot> Twilight told me this video is about Taranshula - Red Dwarf - BBC

00:42 <Cepheid> Hum.  There must be a base value by which this number starts.

00:43 * PrincessRainbows sits by Ali and barks

00:43 <Cepheid> If I could get a character with 1 VIT, then I could double check.  But that'd require hacking save files.

00:44 <Cepheid> Plus, that also assumes that stats are saved in the save files.

00:44 <Schism> It'd be funny if 1 VIT means 'sorry, you don't get any bonuses from armor at all'.

00:44 <Cepheid> Which seems unlikely.

00:44 <Cepheid> I would assume it does.

00:44 <Cepheid> That is, it's multiplier is 1.0

00:44 <Cepheid> And that every 1 VIT beyond that increments it by some value.

00:45 <Cepheid> My statistics thus far suggest that the average value is...

00:45 <Schism> Oh, I meant as in 'armor does nothing'.

00:45 <Cepheid> Ah, heh.

00:46 <Cepheid> That'd be a multiplier of 0, yeah.

00:46 <Cepheid> As for the average so far..

00:46 <Cepheid> The average increase per point of VIT is 0.012844036697248

00:46 <Cepheid> ... One could assume that the value is supposed to be 0.0125

00:46 <Cepheid> As it seems a reasonable number.

00:47 <Schism> Yea, but these are Atlus you're talking about, when have they ever been reasonable?

00:48 *** Surreal_Nightmares is now known as Filly_Nightmares

00:48 <Cepheid> 125 - 38 = 87 DEF at 38 VIT.

00:48 <Cepheid> If I use 0.0125 as the number..

00:49 <Cepheid> I get 56 * (38 * 0.0125) = 56 * 1.4625 = 81.9

00:49 <Cepheid> 'Cause powers of 2, let's try 0.0128

00:50 <Cepheid> 82.5216.

00:50 <Cepheid> Hum, let's assume then...

00:51 <Cepheid> 83.2384..

00:51 <Cepheid> For the sake of fun, let's multiply by the average of the values I've seen thus far.

00:52 <Cepheid> Nope.  Hum.

00:53 * Ali is getting grumpy at the throttled internet

00:54 * PrincessRainbows licks Ali till she's dripping and brushies

00:55 <Cepheid> Well, in any case.

00:55 <Cepheid> I know for a fact that these values are not distinct amongst classes.

00:55 <Cepheid> So the amount of defense one gets from armor is affected by VIT.

00:55 <Cepheid> That, in a sense, makes increasing VIT more important than increasing DEF.

00:56 * Schism provides Filly_Nightmares wif a chicken fillet topped with veggies.

00:56 <Cepheid> Which then, would make a Ninja subclassed as a Hoplite a bad defender.

00:56 * Ali gwumps on Schism

00:56 <Cepheid> Their maximum VIT is low.

00:57 <Cepheid> The benefit going for a Ninja though is their class skill.

00:57 * Filly_Nightmares nom nom noms Schism and kneads wuv into!

00:57 <Schism> Ali: Whyfor the throttle?

00:57 <Ali> I don't know

00:58 <Schism> Possibly winter weather degrading things.  Blehr.

00:58 <Cepheid> Keburi no Sue "Ninja skill that reduces TP used.  No attack penalty from the back row."

00:58 <Cepheid> I'm not sure how much the TP usage drops, though.

00:58 * Cepheid goes to find out.

00:59 <Ali> There's no snow here now Schism

01:02 <Cepheid> Hum

01:03 <Cepheid> Kuburi no Sue, maxed out.  Ninja has a test skill that uses 10 TP.

01:03 <Cepheid> Maxed out, the skill costs 1 TP.

01:04 <Schism> Gonna Ninja/Princess?

01:04 <Schism> Ali: Cold weather has a degrading effect too.

01:05 *** Quits: PinkieShy (coolm@Pony-ck81je.67-212-45-net.sccoast.net) (Connection closed)

01:05 <Cepheid> It's percentage based.  Hum.

01:05 <Cepheid> So 90% drop in TP usage.

01:05 <Cepheid> And no, Schism.  Examining the stats...

01:05 <Cepheid> It'd be better to do Ninja + Zodiac.

01:06 <Cepheid> Though, I dunno how much of a damage improvement the Zodiac's class skill adds.

01:06 <Cepheid> Long story short, Ninja + any high TP class would be insane.

01:08 <Cepheid> As for why I'm investigating Ninja and defense stats, is I'm trying to determine which is better.  Hoplite + Ninja, or Ninja + Hoplite.  Given the Ninja's low VIT, Hoplite + Ninja is better.

01:10 <Cepheid> The benefit here is that through Bunshin, I can have a hoplite on both lines(Bunshin duplicates the character into the free slot in battle)

01:10 <Cepheid> Which means I can use Line Guard on both rows, increasing overall party defense considerably.

01:10 <Cepheid> Meanwhile, for deflecting the elemental damage of the dragons, I have two choices.

01:11 <Cepheid> Either one of the hoplites uses Anti-<element> or the Zodiac uses "<Element> Prophecy" which negates the relevant element, and counters with an elemental attack of the same kind.

01:12 <Cepheid> The elemental breaths are used every N turns, so the deflection only needs to be used on occasion.

01:13 <Cepheid> The rest of the combat needs physical defense and resistance to ailments.

01:13 <Cepheid> For the fire dragon, confusion resistance.  For the ice dragon, stun and/or sleep resistance.

01:14 <Cepheid> Between the two, I'm not sure which would be easier.  The confusion resistance can be boosted by accessories.  I think one of the classes also has a party-wide buff for boosting ailment resistance.

01:17 *** Quits: danwellby (danwellby@The.lone.griffon) (Connection closed)

01:22 <Cepheid> Removing ailments, yes.  No boosting resistances, though.

01:22 <Cepheid> Bah

01:23 <Cepheid> My best bet is to throw on the relevant resist gear, and have a monk with maxed out Refresh.

01:24 <Schism> Cepheid: ... Huh.  Cepheid, notice how the new Skill Gem system will work with 2.0?

01:24 <Schism> Each item gets up to 4 slots with skill gems in them.  Each skill gem then gets up to 6 support slots.

01:24 <Cepheid> Hmm?  What game?

01:24 <Schism> PoE.

01:24 <Cepheid> Ah.

01:24 <Cepheid> I haven't seen that, no.

01:25 <Schism> Ginormous changes.  https://www.pathofexile.com/exilecon/one

01:25 <Schism> 19 ascendency classes, and characters in PoE2 will be treated as a separate league.

01:26 <Cepheid> Nice.

01:26 <Cepheid> Hum, team composition for dragons...  Zodiac absolutely must have the relevant prophecy skill to defend against the dragon breath.

01:26 *** Joins: PinkieShy (coolm@Pony-ck81je.67-212-45-net.sccoast.net)

01:26 <Cepheid> Hoplite needs Bunshin to duplicate.

01:27 <Schism> Cepheid: And then, we have the Metamorph league.

01:27 <Cepheid> Hmm?

01:27 <Schism> Coming next month.  Enemies drop parts, you shove all those parts together, out comes a boss based on those enemies.

01:27 <Cepheid> Did they say-  Ah.

01:27 <Cepheid> Heh.

01:28 <Cepheid> When's PoE2 coming?

01:28 <Schism> I wanna say middle of December.

01:28 <Schism> Oh wait.  Next year, no.

01:28 <Cepheid> Ah.

01:28 <Schism> Next year, probably near the end of next year.

01:28 <Schism> The Conquerors of the Atlas and Metamorph, though, is next month.

01:29 <Cepheid> So let's see, what do I have *NOW*?  I have a Zodiac, Ali, who is currently a master of... Fire.

01:30 * Ali burns herself to the ground

01:30 * Schism uses a Phoenix Down on Ali.

01:30 <Cepheid> That said, the prophecy skills are costly.

01:30 <Cepheid> <Element> and Binary <Element> level 5.

01:31 <Cepheid> So for the ice dragon, I'd need Fire Star, Ice Star 5, Binary Ice 5, Ice Prophecy ?/5, I dunno what leveling the skill does, as if it negates elemental damage from level 1..

01:31 <Cepheid> Then I'd need everyone to have sleep-resistant gear.

01:32 <Cepheid> It's tempting to retire Schism as a Ninja + Monk subclass, but I'm not sure how much of a change the Form Qi affects the healing skills.

01:33 <Cepheid> If it's not a significant amount, then the cost of reduced healing would be offset by Kuburi no Sue cutting TP cost by a staggering 90%.

01:34 <Cepheid> Making Schism effectively have a greatly increased longevity.

01:34 <Cepheid> And given that Line and Party Heal use 18 and 25 TP respectively..

01:34 <Cepheid> 2 TP, 3 TP respectively, if it is indeed a 90% drop in cost.

01:36 <Schism> That would be superb.

01:39 <Cepheid> Let's see how much the Qi Form affects healing.

01:40 * Cepheid tests, saves game, then rests Schism 5 levels so that he can test the spell effects.

01:42 <Cepheid> 10 castings of heal, average restored is 225.9

01:46 <Cepheid> After maxing Qi Form, 10 castings of heal, 370.7.

01:46 <Cepheid> 65% increase.

01:46 <Cepheid> So...

01:46 <Schism> "With as much effort as you've put into this weapon, I'm surprised you haven't given it a proper name yet." "Don't be ridiculous, Frank was named days ago." "... so that when you start swinging it, you can say something like 'Let me be Frank'?" "The thought had never crossed my mind."

01:46 <Cepheid> A 65% increased rate of healing, or a 90% reduction in cost.

01:46 <Cepheid> Over the long term, longevity is definitely improved.

01:47 <Cepheid> You will get considerably more healing, at a lower average.

01:47 <Cepheid> However.

01:48 <Cepheid> I could also teach Schism Bunshin.  Bunshin is a skill that consumes half the character's HP and TP, and creates a duplicate, with all relevant skills intact, in the 6th combat slot.

01:48 <Schism> Hmmmmm, useful.

01:48 <Cepheid> See where I am going with this?

01:48 <Schism> Aye.

01:49 <Cepheid> I could, in effect, double the healing power, while reducing cost to 10%.

01:49 <Cepheid> Also has added benefits in the form of "One can also restore all status ailments, while the other heals."

01:49 * Schism nodnods.

01:49 <Schism> If you're sure it does indeed go down to 10%.

01:49 *** Quits: Heartbreak (Heartbreak@Pony-gja4ce.mn.comcast.net) (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client)

01:49 <Cepheid> Easy way to check.

01:49 <Schism> How does it affect other skills, aye.

01:50 <Cepheid> DOn't save..

01:50 <Cepheid> Retire Schism, subclass..

01:51 *** Joins: Heartbreak (Heartbreak@Pony-gja4ce.mn.comcast.net)

01:54 <Cepheid> Hmm.

01:55 <Cepheid> With the skill, Party Heal drops to... 26 TP.

01:55 <Cepheid> Default without the skill was...

01:55 <Cepheid> It's not 90%.

01:55 <Schism> 1 TP per level above the first, huh?

01:56 <Cepheid> One TP per level, yeah.

01:56 <Cepheid> Not worth it.

01:56 <Cepheid> The Ninja's TP reserves are piddly.

01:57 <Cepheid> I've two choices, then.  1)  Hoplite + Ninja and Bunshin(Easy to access, amazingly.  Very few points required.) to increase overall defense...

01:57 <Cepheid> Or 2)  Monk + Ninja and Bunshin for better healing.

01:58 <Cepheid> Or I can just take the overwhelming force approach and do Zodiac + Bunshin.

01:59 <Cepheid> Overwhelming force worked for EOV.  I'm not sure how well it'd work for EO3.

02:00 <Cepheid> I'm gonna go Monk+Ninja.  Having two healers to handle both damage healing and ailment healing is better.

02:02 <Cepheid> It only takes 4 points to get Bunshin.  Geeze.

02:03 <DerpyBot> New post on Equestria Daily by Calpain: Nightly Discussion #1982 [ http://tinyurl.com/s4emwwz ]

02:03 <Cepheid> Let's see how effective this is.  o3o

02:04 <Cepheid> ... Right, so I just healed 600 damage in a turn using two party heals.

02:06 <Cepheid> Now then, next up is dealing with elemental damage.  If the prophecy skill is indeed a "complete negate elemental damage" type skill, I'll use that over the Anti-**** skills.

02:08 * Cepheid tests the only way he knows how.

02:09 <Cepheid> ...

02:10 <Cepheid> Thanks, game.  I needed you to do a stunt like that.

02:10 <Cepheid> Use prophecy constantly, he never uses the breathe.

02:10 <Cepheid> Er, breath*

02:10 <Cepheid> The one turn I stop using prophecy?

02:10 <Cepheid> He uses the breath.

02:11 <Cepheid> Assuming that he works on a pattern, that means on turn ten, he uses the breath.

02:13 <Cepheid> ... C'mon game, really?

02:14 <Cepheid> That time he uses it first round?

02:14 <Cepheid> Please don't tell me this is a case of "He uses it only if it'll have an effect."

02:14 <Schism> Sounds like it might be.

02:15 <Cepheid> I'll go up to turn 11, if he doesn't use the breath by then with constant usage of the prophecy skill, I'll assume that he uses the breath only if it'll do something.

02:15 <Schism> What is the foe?  Just out of curiosity.

02:15 <Cepheid> Drake.  Ice element dragon.

02:16 <Cepheid> The elemental dragons always open with a breath.

02:16 <Cepheid> ...

02:16 <Cepheid> Okay then.

02:16 <Cepheid> That time he definitely used it on the first turn.

02:17 <Cepheid> And with the prophecy in action at the lowest level?

02:17 <Cepheid> Nullified all damage.

02:17 <Schism> Frightfully effective.

02:17 <Schism> Ah, Frigid.

02:18 <Cepheid> Usually when bosses have a killer attack like the breaths, they use it every 5th turn.

02:18 <Cepheid> There we are.

02:18 <Cepheid> It definitely nullifies all damage.

02:19 <Cepheid> So, I got my elemental nullification down.

02:19 <Cepheid> It's 16 points to get a prophecy.  Also, this frees up Dreamer to focus on other skills for defensive purposes.

02:19 * Schism attempts to absorb an elemental attack, winds up getting instakilled anyway.

02:20 <Cepheid> Ultimate damage is achieved with a specific set of skills boosting "elemental" damage against weakspots.

02:20 <Cepheid> I quoted elemental, because the relevant skill actually affects all attack types, not just elemental damage.

02:20 <Cepheid> If an enemy is weak to bashing, and you hit it with a bash skill, it'll receive the damage boost.

02:21 <Cepheid> It's weird, but it works.

02:21 * PrincessRainbows flops around

02:22 <Cepheid> This is actually beneficial for a number of other reasons, too.

02:23 <Cepheid> Frees up an equipment slot for either more armour, or some other piece of equipment.

02:23 <Cepheid> Like say, stun or confusion resist.

02:24 <Cepheid> Mmm, if I recall correctly, maxing out the Mastery Skills was useless.

02:26 <Cepheid> Hum, I had more than enough points at level 62 to get the relevant skills.

02:27 <Cepheid> Straight up, Dreamer's job is just to take hits to the face.

02:29 *** Parts: PrincessRainbows (dashedrhg1@Winged.Horsey.Dog.Thing) ("User left")

02:31 <Cepheid> Right, everyone needs stun guards at a minimum.

02:33 <Schism> Huh.  Path of Exile mobile actually looks good.

02:33 <Schism> Uses the Atlas system to give folks a short, sweet series of maps.

02:35 <Cepheid> Heh.

02:36 <Cepheid> Everyone is now equipped.  The problem that remains is supplies.

02:37 <Cepheid> Hum, the best TP restorative comes from the Haunt.

02:37 <Cepheid> Fortunately, as a gatherable.

02:47 <Cepheid> This is, of course, a test run.  The team isn't remotely high enough in level probably to kill it, but... yeah.

02:47 <Schism> Ah yes, the Star Devourer.

02:47 <Cepheid> The second time I had to kill him, for the true ending, I literally murdered him.

02:48 <Cepheid> It only took one try, and I blasted him into oblivion.

02:48 <Cepheid> I want to say that I don't know how they could make something worse..

02:48 <Cepheid> But I know better.

02:48 <Cepheid> Nexus will have something worse.  I guarantee it.

02:49 <Cepheid> Maximum level of 130(!?).

02:49 <Cepheid> And given the nature of the game, it's likely going to be some cross-dimensional eldritch horror.

02:51 * Cepheid watches Dreamer take FIVE HITS to the face. Because of Provoke.

02:51 <Schism> Nexus will at least probably have the elemental dragons.  o3o;

02:53 <Cepheid> ... That is GLORIOUS.

02:53 <Cepheid> Dragon bound most of the party, missed Schism and Schism.  Schism used Party Heal, restored all the damage.  Then Schism followed up with Unbind, unbinding the whole party.

02:53 <Schism> Nice indeed.  o3o!

02:54 <Schism> I take it you've already cleared Zappydrgn?

02:54 <Cepheid> Yeah, he's the first one I killed.

02:54 <Schism> Usually is.

02:54 <Cepheid> This is... gonna be a long battle.

02:54 <Schism> Nowhere near the amount of damage you need to obliterate his regen?

02:55 <Cepheid> The only one able to do any real damage is the zodiac.  And she's doing about 250 or so damage with fire.  I don't think this thing is weak to fire.

02:55 <Schism> Probably not so much.

02:56 <Schism> Is that even a possible fight with that damage rate?

02:57 <Cepheid> Yes.

02:57 <Cepheid> I have the resources to do it.

02:57 * Schism nods.

03:00 <Cepheid> So long as Dreamer keeps provoke up, and that both healers are intact, I'm good.  It's like having twice the TP for healing and restoration.  Meanwhile, I have a stack of Amrita III's, which completely restore TP.

04:06 <Cepheid> 25%

04:09 <Cepheid> I warned you, Drake.  You were wanted dead.  Ended.

04:10 <Schism> I'm surprised it didn't Regen more often.

04:10 <Cepheid> I kept spamming Ad Nihilo after it used Regen the first time.

04:10 <Cepheid> So it never got a chance to regenerate any health after that point.

04:10 * Schism nodnods.

04:11 <Cepheid> Apparently, in the order of dragons, the Drake comes before the Dragon.

04:12 <Cepheid> All that leaves is the Wyrm.  The fire dragon.

04:13 <Cepheid> Once that's out of the way, it's endgame.

04:16 <Schism> I was always given to understand that the Drake was usually the second of the three elemental dragons.

04:16 <Cepheid> It is.

04:16 <Cepheid> The Storm King/Dragon/Thunder Dragon is actually supposed to be the last one.

04:17 <Cepheid> And somehow, I killed it first.

04:21 * Cepheid bows to the Wyrm. "My Master demands the end of your existence. No hard feelings."

04:21 * Schism watches charcoal being made.

04:22 * Cepheid uses Fire Prophecy, negates the Wyrm's fire.

04:23 <Ali> Hmmm, ping seems pretty high for a cabled connection

04:23 <Schism> Any packet loss?

04:23 <Ali> Says it should be 5-20ms and mine is 27 with random spikes

04:23 <Ali> I don't know Schism, just did a ping test twice

04:24 <Schism> Hit up the command prompt and 'ping 8.8.8.8 -n 100'?

04:24 <Schism> Those random spikes do sound more like signal degradation than throttling.

04:25 * Schism still thinks that Ali should call her ISP.

04:25 <Ali> Getting about the same values each ping test Schism, but I don't know what TTL is

04:26 <Schism> That's just the time to live, the time used to determine when the packet probably isn't coming back.

04:26 <Schism> A packet which has exceeded its TTL stops being routed.

04:26 <Ali> Most are 25ms

04:27 <Ali> But on the internet it feels far worse

04:28 <Schism> Check Ookla?  https://www.speedtest.net/?r=r -- though a lot of ISPs abuse the hell out of it to cause it to give false returns, it's still not the worst.

04:28 <Cepheid> The biggest problem I'm facing with this is that the dragon is heavy on physical attacks.

04:29 <Ali> I get 47ms when pinging Dallas but 27 to Chicago Schism

04:29 <Schism> That's just your standard routing weirdness, Ali.

04:29 <Ali> Still it shouldn't be that high for a broadband/fiber line right?

04:30 <Cepheid> ...?  Huh?  Binding it's head increases elemental damage against it?

04:30 <Schism> A ping of 50 on certain servers, with 27 on others?  That's pretty normal.

04:31 <Ali> I went up to 70 to LA

04:31 <Schism> Still normal.  Ping isn't a good indication of service for this case.  We want throughput.

04:32 <Cepheid> Yes, Wyrm, keep using your damage buff skill, which I keep negating.

04:32 <Schism> The reason I mentioned running a ping like that earlier is to see if there is in fact packet loss across the board.

04:32 <Cepheid> ... I think I got it stuck in an AI loop.

04:32 <Schism> Probably not, you've just hit upon a really good seed.

04:33 <Cepheid> Aaaand I spoke too soon.

04:33 <Cepheid> It hit me with an attack that hurt.  I survived, but yeah.

04:33 <Ali> ugh, trying IE to see if there is a chrome issue

04:34 <Schism> Ali: In Chrome, be sure to check your network settings to ensure there's no proxy nonsense going on.

04:34 <Ali> Chrome is acting funky, it just loaded the same page much slower

04:34 <Schism> Hello potential add on issue.

04:35 <Schism> And like I said, open advanced settings and check your proxy settings in there in Chrome.

04:35 <Ali> But the only things I run as extensions to Chrome are addblockers

04:36 <Schism> er.  You mean... uBlock Origin, NoScript and Ghostery, right?

04:36 <Cepheid> Huh.  That damage boost isn't considered an enhancement or buff for purposes of Ad Nihilo.

04:36 * PrincessRainbows boops Ali

04:36 <Ali> No Schism Adblock and Adblock Pro

04:37 <Ali> As far as proxy, it sends me to computer settings

04:37 <Ali> And this all makes no sense to me

04:37 <Schism> Right, the idea there is that you check your TCP/IP settings to make sure a proxy isn't being used.

04:37 <Cepheid> 40%.

04:38 <Schism> Ali: Adblock... ummm...

04:38 <Schism> Adblock plus is kinda... ...not good.

04:40 <Schism> And it's quite possible that your adblockers installed are non-viable.  I highly suggest getting rid of those and going with uBlock and NoScript.

04:40 <Schism> uBlock Origin, that is.

04:40 <Ali> Schism, in PM please cause reasons I mention there.

04:41 * PrincessRainbows is going to pass out a bit now. Night

04:48 <Cepheid> ...

04:48 <Cepheid> Are you kidding me game?

04:49 <Cepheid> It was a valiant effort, Wyrm, but your critical mistake was not using your breath.

04:49 <Cepheid> And thus, for your critical error, you are now dead.

04:55 <Cepheid> Which unlocks the Elder Dragon battle.

04:56 <Schism> Surely, since you handled those three tests so handily, you should be able to defeat the Elder Dragon with no problems what-so-ever.

04:57 * Cepheid watches his team take 8000+ damage from an attack.

04:58 <Cepheid> I don't know what I was expecting, but seeing 8000+ damage was not it.

04:58 <Cepheid> Given the helper character, my guess is... I gotta keep it bound.  A lot.

12:55 * Cepheid begins the journey to beat the rare drops out of every boss in EO3. Gotta collect 'em all. He'll need the equipment anyways. Nothing short of level 90+ with best gear will suffice.

12:56 <Cepheid> Worst of the gear will be the Dragonbane.  8 slots for forges.  Each forge requires one drop from all 3 dragons.

13:19 <Cepheid> Meanwhile, the Elder Dragon is pretty much the same mechanic as the dark dragon from EO4.  Keep the head bound.

13:20 <Cepheid> So I just need a bunch of head bind items, and a character with head binding skills.

13:28 <Cepheid> So... Buccaneer(Pirates!), Wildling pet, or Farmer.  Buccaneer and Wildling are the most reliable.  Wildling pet takes up the sixth slot, though.  And it has to remain alive to be able to bind.

13:31 <Angie> EO3?

13:32 <Angie> Cepheid?

13:34 <Cepheid> Sorry.  De-escalating something.  Anyway, Etrian Odyssey 3.

13:34 <Cepheid> For the DS.  Old game.

13:35 <Cepheid> Hmm.  20 Amrita 3.  That leaves 40 items for binding.  With four controllable characters(Oh, yeah.  I can't use 5 controllable characters for the battle.) That leaves 10 possible blocks of Supernova.

13:35 <Cepheid> That gives me a minimum of 50 turns to kill it.

13:36 <Cepheid> After that, I have to rely on skills and basic attacks with binding weapons, which are a bit unreliable.

13:36 <Cepheid> Gotta love bosses with unresistable 8000+ damage.  And your max HP is 999.

13:48 <Cepheid> The irony is despite this, the game is still fair.

13:54 <Cepheid> The series is known for grueling difficulty.  But it makes up for it by having stuff like status ailments that are actually effective, including powerful poison damage, and an instant death attack that is semi-reliable on non-resistant enemies, and super effective on weak-to enemies.

13:56 <Cepheid> Poison is not percentage based.  It's a static amount of damage a turn.  While not the most powerful source of damage, it is up there.  At maximum level, depending on the game, it can do upwards of 300 to 600 damage.  Most main storyline enemies tend to go from 20 to about 1200 HP or so.

13:57 <Cepheid> Bosses obviously are much higher.  So poison tends to be a bit less effective on them.  But it adds up, especially if it can't be shaken easily.

13:58 <Cepheid> It's still also a lot more damage than most attacks can dish out from other characters.

13:58 <Cepheid> Sweet jesus my blood pressure is high this morning.

14:09 <Angie> Then a Furyhorn oneshot my paty

14:09 <Angie> party*

14:13 <Cepheid> Yeah.  The game can be a bit brutal.  FOEs are not to be underestimates.

14:13 <Cepheid> Underestimated*

14:15 <Cepheid> Usually though, by the time you can kill a stratum boss, you can usually kill the FOEs of that stratum.  And are encouraged to do so, for the drops they have will actually overpower you for the relevant boss.

14:16 <Cepheid> ... With exception to the last stratum.  The one beyond the base storyline.  Yeah, post-game content.  That said it is a bit different from most.  There is associated story.  Often expands on the base story.

14:16 <Cepheid> Basically, the post-game stratum is where Atlus just throws balance out the door.  The odds are stacked heavily against you.

14:17 <Cepheid> You can still win, and over time you can reduce the difficulty to that of any other stratum, relatively.

14:18 <Cepheid> But it requires killing three special, series-important superbosses to unlock the level cap.

14:18 <Cepheid> Which I just did last night, proving it isn't impossible.  In fact, I kinda trivialised the bosses.

14:21 <Cepheid> Also don't worry about my blood pressure.  It is likely the coffee I drank plus the usual problem with measuring my blood pressure.  I don't breathe deeply, so my pressure goes up in trying to get oxygen to my brain meats.  Also, I stress when getting my blood pressure checked.

21:37 <Ali> The Dimir deck doesn't JUST screw Oko

21:39 <Schism> You still built it -around- Oko.  >.>

21:40 <Schism> But yes, at least that's finally out of the running.  Wonder what'll break the meta next.

21:40 <Ali> Yes but it works against multiple threats

21:40 <Schism> With Oko and OuaT out of the game, it'll be interesting to see.

21:41 <Ali> Veil of Summer is gone too Schism

21:42 * Schism looks at Veil. "I can see why."

21:43 <Schism> Guess the meta needed a little... *sunglasses* weedwhacking.

21:43 <Ali> DOH HO HO HO

21:48 <Schism> Hmm.  Heard someone complaining about how since the latest Ravnica block is still in standard, Teferi's going to be a staple again.

21:49 <Ali> Eeyup

21:49 <Ali> That's what I'm concerned about as well

21:49 <Ali> Cause Teferi has wide open spaces to just control the format

21:50 * Schism nods, "Shuts down a TON of tricks. Evidently Cavalcade of Calamity is also a fairly ridiculous card."

21:51 <Ali> Yeah Mono Red Cavalcade is stupid busted and cheap to run

21:51 <Ali> Though you bust up the Spitfire or the Cavalcade itself and its just a pinprick deck

21:51 <Schism> Guess we'll have to see how they fix that, if.

21:51 <Ali> They'll have to see how the Meta adjusts

21:52 <Ali> If something gets up to 70% playrate and 50%+ winrate, they'll do something about it.

21:53 <Schism> Last Mythic championship, evidently everyone ran at least some green for exactly these reasons.

21:53 <Ali> Yep, MC Richmond was 70% Oko

21:54 <Schism> And 80% OUaT.

21:54 <Ali> Once Upon A Time is a terribly designed card mostly due to if its the first spell you cast, its free

21:54 <Ali> If it didn't have that clause, it wouldn't be played as heavily

21:55 <Schism> Lotta Breeding Pools, too.

21:55 <Ali> Of course, its a simic staple to color fix

21:58 * PrincessRainbows licks Ali and barks

21:58 * Ali squeaks at PrincessRainbows

21:59 * Sleeping_Nightmares kneads Ali

21:59 *** Sleeping_Nightmares is now known as Filly_Nightmares

22:00 * PrincessRainbows sits in front of Ali and wags her tail
